what we are

i am a mask
worn by all
broken by many
with the shards of the broken I've been put back together
yet I'm disfigured
a mind on our own
masters of a fate, not our own
we speak in riddles for that is the answer
to the nature of our being
a construct made to protect
turned into a device of torture
