  2. [2016-02-13 19:43:15] <Antioch|GaMe> Khandhas returns to Cleveland via helicopter, landing in front of Fairview Hospital.
  3. [2016-02-13 19:43:52] <Antioch|GaMe> There's a lot of fanfare and cheering with your return, a crowd gathered - hell, a red carpet leading into the building, but you get the feeling it's more for the King's benefit than yours.
  4. [2016-02-13 19:45:20] <Antioch|GaMe> Nonetheless, there's a sense of accomplishment that eluded you during the fight with the Endbringer itself, when Blake shakes your hand, not asking too many questions, gratitude in his expression.
  5. [2016-02-13 19:45:35] <Antioch|GaMe> He spent the ride back silently, using his armor's diagnostic to examine just what had happened to his body... and yours.
  6. [2016-02-13 19:46:02] <Antioch|GaMe> He did check for you - your liver is still in the same bad shape it was. ||
  7. [2016-02-13 19:47:35] <Firlz|Khandhas> Probably for the best, all considered. It might be a few years away from killing me from bad habits, but it's MY bad liver, dammit.
  8. [2016-02-13 19:48:24] ⇐ Thalia quit (secret@net-ehma5b.or.comcast.net): Connection closed
  9. [2016-02-13 19:49:13] <Firlz|Khandhas> Speaking of property... I should probably make it a point to check in and see if anyone found Forgemaster's armor. With a chance to investigate whatever damage happened to it when it became real again he might find something useful for making better stuff in the future.
  10. [2016-02-13 19:50:17] <Firlz|Khandhas> If nothing else it'd be neat for the Tinker to have it as a Trophy to it surviving through an endbringer fight. There can't be THAT many tinkers who can say their tech has been within a few hundred feet of the beast without the user dying in the process.
  11. [2016-02-13 19:50:24] <Firlz|Khandhas> Though it WAS a rather close thing.||
  12. [2016-02-13 19:52:31] <Antioch|GaMe> You did send in the request to the Cleveland Protectorate capes doing search and rescue, but nothing seems to have come of it.
  13. [2016-02-13 19:53:00] <Antioch|GaMe> You did shuck the armor along the path that the beast took, so it's not unlikely that it's destroyed or reduced to slag. ||
  14. [2016-02-13 19:55:10] <Firlz|Khandhas> Bit of a shame, that. Though considering it saved at least ONE other cape from getting electrified for sure, it did what it was supposed to. It's hard to know if the later bolts actually got redirected from anything or not, it wasn't like there were clearly other capes nearby for the monster to target instead.
  15. [2016-02-13 19:55:11] → Thalia joined (secret@net-ehma5b.or.comcast.net)
  16. [2016-02-13 19:57:31] <Firlz|Khandhas> Well, even so I should probably make it a point to visit him in the near future to see if anything I noticed might be useful for him, maybe see about designing a mk II in the event I decide a future endbringer fight is a place for me to go.
  17. [2016-02-13 19:58:16] <Firlz|Khandhas> Considering how little I want a particular contract Voided, I'm expecting I will be making at least a token showing until Blake decides to stop showing up to the things.
  18. [2016-02-13 19:58:44] <Firlz|Khandhas> On that note maybe it's time to reconsider what he mentioned before I left.
  19. [2016-02-13 20:00:38] <Firlz|Khandhas> Before the fight itself, threats in that league didn't really seem "real". There was no pressing need to make sure I was as tuned up as humanly possible, even if I did try to pull out all the stops I could manage on pretty short notice.
  20. [2016-02-13 20:02:07] <Firlz|Khandhas> I still can't say the idea of a "team" appeals to me, but maybe it doesn't need to be something so formal. Find a handful of peers whose judgment I can trust to point me at the right targets, and then figure out how best to make those targets pay as dearly as possible for whatever their objectives are.
  21. [2016-02-13 20:04:08] <Firlz|Khandhas> Maybe chat with the director, see what kind of leeway I can get as an independent gun to go after the more problematic cases in town. Use them as a sort of "weapons test" or proof of concept for ways to deal with other, bigger threats when they inevitably come down the pipeline.
  22. [2016-02-13 20:05:12] <Firlz|Khandhas> Well, first I should probably talk with Blake about it regardless. If he's got some time to spare when we get inside I'll see if I can't spitball off him. If he isn't I can always hit up Jiangjun and see if he's got any bright ideas.||
  23. [2016-02-13 20:05:58] <Antioch|GaMe> Jiangjun's been kind of off the grid for the past few weeks.
  24. [2016-02-13 20:06:27] <Antioch|GaMe> Last time you had an actual sit-down lunch with him was... around twelve or so days ago?
  25. [2016-02-13 20:08:42] * Bel|aboot is now known as Bel
  26. [2016-02-13 20:09:03] <Antioch|GaMe> Either way, you're still kind of mentally razzled from the shitstorm and your /extremely/ close brush with death.
  27. [2016-02-13 20:09:47] <Antioch|GaMe> Not, oddly enough, a situation where you want to hit the sauce. You've been having some time, thinking really hard, and you need a clear head to chase down these strings.
  28. [2016-02-13 20:09:58] <Antioch|GaMe> Maybe have someone to bounce shit off the wall with. ||
  29. [2016-02-13 20:10:51] <Firlz|Khandhas> ((so did we actually make it inside the hospital yet?))

  31. [2016-02-13 20:13:21] <Antioch|GaMe> You're inside the hospital, awkwardly following the King around. He's got a long list of things to do - and he took a short catnap on the flight over.
  32. [2016-02-13 20:14:31] <Antioch|GaMe> "Go home, Khandhas. You've more than earned a break," he says. Not brushing you off, per se, but not having anything on his mind to say to you. ||
  33. [2016-02-13 20:16:09] <Firlz|Khandhas> So he says, but it hardly FEELS that way. Still doing something less active might be just what's needed.
  34. [2016-02-13 20:16:40] <Firlz|Khandhas> "Let me guess, Doctor's orders?" I try and put some humor into the statement.||
  35. [2016-02-13 20:17:08] * Bel is now known as Bel|Dags
  36. [2016-02-13 20:17:36] <Antioch|GaMe> He gives you a warm smile. "You could call it that. Get in touch with me once I get the backlog of stuff I missed cleared. We'll have drinks." ||
  37. [2016-02-13 20:21:44] <Firlz|Khandhas> I can't help but actually laugh at that one "That actually sounds nice. Though, keep me in the loop if you find any trouble. The wicked never sleep, so taking too long off is just asking for problems."
  38. [2016-02-13 20:24:10] <Firlz|Khandhas> I make my way out and decide Blake is right, at least in part. I don't need to do anything particularly active, if I were a well-adjusted person this would be the time I might meet with friends, or visit the family.
  39. [2016-02-13 20:28:05] <Firlz|Khandhas> A whole team of basket-case that I am I commit myself to seeing if JJ is up for some eats. If nothing else I'm sure he'll love laughing at how close to getting myself killed I managed. After that, take the day more or less off to just browse the internet for news or even go to bed EARLY tonight. If I turn out the lights and actually sit still mayb
  40. [2016-02-13 20:28:05] <Firlz|Khandhas> e I can manage to go more than one night in a week where I wasn't drinking myself to sleep.

  42. [2016-02-13 20:30:25] <Antioch|GaMe> You call up Jiangjun to see if he's down to hang, but it goes straight to voicemail. Hmm.
  43. [2016-02-13 20:30:38] <Antioch|GaMe> Before you can put your phone in your pocket, HPIA gives you a ring. ||
  44. [2016-02-13 20:31:16] <Firlz|Khandhas> Lets see if I can manage to get it right on the first try "Dags?"||
  45. [2016-02-13 20:31:22] <Antioch|GaMe> >>Bel|Dags
  46. [2016-02-13 20:32:03] <Bel|Dags> "Hey, this is- yeah, Dags. I'm, uh, talking to Khandhas, right?" ||
  47. [2016-02-13 20:33:10] <Firlz|Khandhas> "I'd say the one and only, but well, you know. How can I help?"||
  48. [2016-02-13 20:36:41] <Bel|Dags> "Well, I'm about to head out and talk to the Borgata about renegotiating a... deal we have, and I don't want to go alone, but Haddon is out, Kus is, y'know, and Maia's on her lunch break. You have an hour or two to get some Italian with mobsters?" ||
  49. [2016-02-13 20:43:35] <Firlz|Khandhas> "Is Pizzicato even up and at 'em yet? Actually, sure let me head over and we can discuss the actual gameplan."
  50. [2016-02-13 20:44:42] <Firlz|Khandhas> I continue "Unlike someone who can just burn things to cinders or cut people up with nonsense wires, I need to actually prepare for fights if I want to win. It'll be that much more prudent if I've gotta protect you if shit goes down, since my normal escape plans don't work so well for others."||
  51. [2016-02-13 20:47:18] <Bel|Dags> "Yeah, about that..."
  52. [2016-02-13 20:48:01] <Bel|Dags> I look out over the steering wheel as traffic starts to move again, holding the phone with my shoulder to flash a middle finger at someone flying through the red.
  53. [2016-02-13 20:48:46] <Bel|Dags> "Where can I pick you up? I made a reservation for noon which is in... twenty minutes." ||
  54. [2016-02-13 20:49:49] <Firlz|Khandhas> ((did my gear make it out with me? Or did it all get thrown away due to radiation along with my... Corpse?))
  55. [2016-02-13 20:50:21] <Antioch|GaMe> Your basic armor is OK, since you left it off as a trade for Forgemaster's armor.
  56. [2016-02-13 20:57:50] <Firlz|Khandhas> ((and I don't have time to grab nades or crossbows. Great))
  57. [2016-02-13 21:00:23] <Firlz|Khandhas> "Shit well, I'm currently by the hospital. I can mosey a BIT, where's the best place for me to head for said pickup" I'm not going to let him walk into that lion's den ALONE. He couldn't have had his appointment an HOUR from now?||
  58. [2016-02-13 21:04:12] <Bel|Dags> "Awesome. Great. If you walk south, I'll meet you on the road in five."
  59. [2016-02-13 21:05:35] <Bel|Dags> I hang up and slide the phone into my pocket, quelling the urge to reach into my coat to grab the half-empty flask. Borgata meant business, even and maybe especially after the Don's death and that Player One fiasco, and I never relished having to put the screws to them.
  60. [2016-02-13 21:05:43] <Bel|Dags> On the other hand...
  61. [2016-02-13 21:06:33] <Bel|Dags> The memory of Burn Notice stubbing his cigarette out on my hand swims into view and I smile, making my way through downtown traffic towards the hospital. ||
  62. [2016-02-13 21:09:46] <Firlz|Khandhas> I make my way south. Resigned that I'm liable to get myself into a fistfight with a meatgrinder.... Without the benefit of insanely durable fists of any kind.
  63. [2016-02-13 21:12:04] <Firlz|Khandhas> Lets just hope that Pizzicato has actually made it back, hopefully being the one to get him to safety will have some pull for getting us out of there with nothing but words.
  64. [2016-02-13 21:13:31] <Firlz|Khandhas> It's better than nothing... If not by MUCH.||
  65. [2016-02-13 21:25:46] <Bel|Dags> After a few minutes of driving, I pull over next to the walking detective and beep the horn a few times.
  66. [2016-02-13 21:26:19] <Bel|Dags> Cracking the window, I yell, "Get in, if we peel out we'll make it in time to get appetizers!" ||
  67. [2016-02-13 21:30:59] <Firlz|Khandhas> Well at least there should be food? I hop in the car and ask "So, any chance I can get a rundown of what your objectives are?"
  68. [2016-02-13 21:31:01] <Firlz|Khandhas> ||
  69. [2016-02-13 21:31:36] <Bel|Dags> As soon as the door's closed, I whip the car around, ignoring the screeching and honking horns.
  70. [2016-02-13 21:32:30] <Bel|Dags> "One," I say, lifting fingers from the steering wheel to enumerate, "Don't die. That's a given."
  71. [2016-02-13 21:34:46] <Bel|Dags> "Two, a while back, we- 'we' being the HPIA- got strong-armed into an information-for-protection racket. At the time, we didn't have the leverage to say no, so we've been pursuing 'malicious compliance', Maia calls it, but now, with the Borgata off balance and some choice tidbits I've picked up, I think we can set things right again."
  72. [2016-02-13 21:35:32] <Bel|Dags> "Three, I want to tweak Burn Notice's fat fuckin' nose once or twice. I've got some ideas, but I'll play that one by ear."
  73. [2016-02-13 21:36:25] <Bel|Dags> "And four, I want to get some of that shrimp paella. Never had better, and I've had some good paella." ||
  74. [2016-02-13 21:37:47] * Nonagon is now known as Nonagon|Sleep
  75. [2016-02-13 21:38:17] <Firlz|Khandhas> "Putting three and four aside, what do you wager the chances of BOTH one and two happening without a fight? You DO know my power basically makes me little better than a group of thugs if this is anything less than civil, right? Thugs with the most fragile jaws you've ever seen, too."||
  76. [2016-02-13 21:41:14] <Bel|Dags> "'s all I need, really, some bodies to throw between me and the goons while I skedaddle for the door. Haddon's perfect for it, but he's perfect for a lotta things, so I pick up the slack. Maia's got better things to do, and unless I feel like hiding behind his chair-"
  77. [2016-02-13 21:41:17] <Bel|Dags> I pause to throw up a gang sign at a man loitering on a particular corner, Danny "Two-Chains", then continue.
  78. [2016-02-13 21:43:18] <Bel|Dags> "Unless I feel like hiding behind his chair, Kus is right out. So you're my menacing meat shield. Always fun to wander around flanked by muscle, anyhow." I punch his shoulder playfully. ||
  79. [2016-02-13 21:43:47] <Firlz|Khandhas> Well, if nothing else this should be interesting.
  80. [2016-02-13 21:49:50] <Firlz|Khandhas> "Well if we're going to do this then I guess I should put my cards on the table. I SAW The Don's corpse in person... It. It wasn't pretty. And to be perfectly honest, given HOW he died... It's arguably part my fault, accidental friendly fire in the wake of a tinkertech attempt to stop Behemoth, but I was the one who pulled the trigger on the thing.
  81. [2016-02-13 21:49:50] <Firlz|Khandhas> " I pause for a moment to let that sink in. "On the other hand, I was the guy who pulled Pizzi out of the rubble after. Maybe the borgata would just see that as my job during the fight, or maybe they see it as a favor. If it's the latter... That is a VALUABLE card if I end up needing to use it to get us out of there."
  82. [2016-02-13 21:50:35] * Teruzi|GM is now known as Teruzi
  83. [2016-02-13 21:51:00] <Firlz|Khandhas> I think for a moment realizing that his plan is to throw ME in the way to get out "before we head in, I'm going to want to do a quick power test, it'll be using it in a way I've never really thought to try before so I'd rather know if it works before we head in. Shouldn't take more than a few seconds unless you think there's going to be a throwdow

  86. [2016-02-13 21:54:43] <Bel|Dags> I nod along. "Yeah, maybe keep that first bit to yourself? And you can drop that card if you think we need it, but let me take point 'til things go to shit."
  87. [2016-02-13 21:55:49] <Bel|Dags> I pull over in a nearby space and step out of the car, motioning to an adjacent alley. "Do what you gotta do, but I want two copies ready to walk in with me in two minutes." I walk around the car and feed the meter. ||
  88. [2016-02-13 21:58:00] <Firlz|Khandhas> I look down the sidewalk, trying to spot a step about fifty fee away and focus on it for a second. Then I turn my head the other way and close my eyes. I try and visualize creating one of the clones over by the step fifty feet away as I use my power. Once I have the image in my mind I try and DO just that- create one clone over there, while the res

  90. [2016-02-13 22:08:04] <Antioch|GaMe> ...
  91. [2016-02-13 22:09:15] <Antioch|GaMe> It doesn't work. The clones appear around you in the same formation that they always do, loosely scattered about where your original body was. ||
  92. [2016-02-13 22:13:20] <Firlz|Khandhas> Well, it was worth a shot. Three selves line up to follow Dags inside while the remaining two split up to take more circuitous routes. Three thugs to get in the way, one to try and 'hide' as a safe self, and one to get ready to run like hell in the worst-case.||
  93. [2016-02-13 22:14:22] <Bel|Dags> I glance idly at the scattered mass of clones. "I'd love to take three, but I only made a reservation for two. Hard enough to get that expanded without having to try to get a decent table with five seats on it."
  94. [2016-02-13 22:16:01] <Bel|Dags> I rearrange the clones until I have one at each shoulder, straighten my jacket, and snatch my flask out of the coat.
  95. [2016-02-13 22:16:55] <Bel|Dags> "We're off!" I pronounce, making my way down the walk and swigging the rest of the flask dramatically. ||
  96. [2016-02-13 22:17:01] * Prothean is now known as Proth|Ezreal
  97. [2016-02-13 22:18:34] <Firlz|Khandhas> It occurs to us that perhaps Dags thinks we will be eating while we're there. That is probably a bad idea, since multiple selves eating means there will be a mess SOMEWHERE when the rest pop.
  98. [2016-02-13 22:19:40] <Firlz|Khandhas> Well whatever, an extra self on the outside is that much more of a safeguard in case things go wrong, having one self actively patrolling outside to make sure nothing happens is just as well.||
  99. [2016-02-13 22:24:11] * Antioch|GaMe → Antioch|GM

  102. [2016-02-13 22:28:55] <Antioch|GM> There's a table already set for you, for two, with Burn Notice already seated, a man standing behind him.

  108. [2016-02-13 22:31:07] <Antioch|GM> There's antipasto, cheeses, bread on the table, which is unnecessarily candlelit.
  109. [2016-02-13 22:31:51] <Antioch|GM> It doesn't look like Burn Notice recognizes Khandhas, given his non-unique costume and nondescript, slightly variable clone form. ||
