  1. FF4 (got stuck like, halfway through, difficult underground tower dungeon. played mostly for "knowledge of the classics" reasons, and because nobuo uematsu is a fucking awesome composer.)
  2. FF6 (at floating continent, having to remember how to strategy every time I pick it up again is tiring. played for the same reason as FF4, didn't like this one's regular battle theme as much tho)
  3.
  4. Chrono Trigger (ending reached, unlocked newgame+, forgot a lot of details tho. enjoyed the story driven approach. really enjoyed the wide variety of settings visited, and how things all connected together)
  5.
  6. Super Mario RPG (got to final dungeon and then decided to do some side quests and forgot to go back, enjoyed it a fair amount. really liked the presence of optional sidequests, some of which could be failed with minimal penalty except lack of redos)
  7.
  8. Octopath Traveller demo (only Olric's path so far, loving the nostalgia and easy to pick up strategy here)
  9.
  10. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (got to 5th year and turned out to be unprepared for later areas, tried again years later and lost motivation due to only being able to play it singleplayer, not exactly a jrpg but clearly shows tabletop influences, also Kawazu was a main dude behind it.)
  11.
  12. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (beat the final boss, really enjoyed this game, was difficult to master when younger, but not too much harder than necessary. enjoyed the comedic writing and the glanceways look at how the elements of the Mario setting can be interpreted as more than just an expanse of obstacle courses.)
  13.
  14. M&L: Partners in Time (got to like, star road and then got bored, levels seemed emptier than the previous game. the baby antics were meh)
  15.
  16. M&L: Bowser's Inside Story (had much more variety and adventure than the previous game, beat the final boss, enjoyed it, but something almost seemed missing...? why was fawful's fury replaced with chortles?)
  17.
  18. Paper Mario (beat the final boss, enjoyed this game quite a bit. there's something calming about its children's pop up book aesthetic, which is played off in somewhat of a modest manner, without going Full Crayon like Yoshi's Island's main art style.)
  19.
  20. Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door (beat the final boss, has attempted to replay a handful of times, a favorite. the chapter concepts are inventive and filled with personality. sports a low number based battle system with the same basic methods of upgrade distribution as its predecessor, but it's still really nice to work with... except for when fighting hyper enemies in later chapters after their start point numbers are knocked down.)
  21.
  22. Earthbound (got to threed and got stuck dying against zombies, enjoyed the odd sense of "immersion" which is kinda hard to explain in words, really liked it, don't want to use a strategy guide to avoid further spoilers tho)
  23.
  24. nearly every main-line pokemon game (have gradually been getting bored over the years, most games I have gotten at least 8 badges, but later have not even had the motivation to complete that. the formula seems burnt out and more of a chore than anything. the concept that you and your enemy can and will fight with the same possible advantages and options has stuck with me and has instilled me with a sense of disappointment when seeing other rpg's that have such a segregated cast of enemies and allies that are assumed to automatically be on a particular side of an eternal battle just because of their shape, and not their own personal ideologies. firered was my first one, played at 11)
  25.
  26. Dragon Warrior 3 (extremely confused and barely got anywhere in it. enjoyed naming my party members. once named my party after the cast from south park and tried to kill off kenny but found it was hard to do that without wandering into party wipe territory. story was uninteresting to me, too generic for my tastes)
  27.
  28. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness (defeated primal dialga, got stuck on darkrai's dungeon due to terrible starter typing, enjoyed it quite a bit. there seemed to be a jarring jump between the abstracted nature of the dungeon crawls and the non grid areas.)
  29.
  30. Super PMD (have reached the point where intercontinental travel is possible, got intimidated by the scarcity of resources while under the expectation of grinding levels on the main crew, seemed far more detached due to starters able to be swapped out entirely, enjoyed it a fair bit)
  31.
  32. Undertale (played through neutral and pacifist runs, refused to play any further runs after reaching the pacifist ending for sentimental reasons. Yes, I realize this is not from a Japanese developer nor developed in Japan, but the influence is too strong to ignore)
  33.
  34. Not actually JRPG's but still influential:
  35.
  36. Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass (the ocean exploration is a big thing in these games, with plenty of uncharted islands, important and unimportant waiting to be discovered and explored. Have played and beaten both of these games, though it has been years and neither game is in my collection anymore)
  37.
  38. Game's I have made in RPG MAKER:
  39.
  40. Mimi's Mountain (super buggy, has some funny jokes though)
  41.
  42. Jello and the Valley of Duh (weird interactive crossover fanfiction. Has a cute aesthetic, never finished but has a lot of chapters)
  43.
  44. Sethstuck (meant to be more of a walkaround with combat, each area has a challenge, short and complete)
  45.
  46. Terrible Game (incomplete but has a lot of levels, mostly a scratch pad for ideas)
