													Chapter 64. Dog Days

“What... the hell is going on...?”

Blake stares at the rest of the world from the top of a building.

Vale is in chaos. There are people running through the streets as fast as they can, screaming and squealing as the giant black monster trots through the buildings. Its four round paws softly crush every abandoned car and bicycle. Its massive tongue lolls out from wide jaws, leaking a menacing river of drool into the streets. Its stump of a tail waggles innocently as it causes chaos and panic amongst the citizens, who are torn between running for their lives, and stopping to admire it.

After all, it's not uncommon for Grimm to attack the city.

But it's not every day when a giant five-story-tall corgi is on the loose.

Some people are screaming and fleeing while others are cooing and fantasizing about petting him or rubbing his belly.

Blake, on the other hand, is utterly dumbfounded as she watches this all unfold. Her teammates are beside her, and equally as flustered.

“Waaaaah! How did this happennn?” Ruby wails. “Zwei, bad doggie! Don't chew on the post office! Stop iiiit! Listen to me!”

“I don't think he can hear you, sis,” Yang mutters. “What with all the screaming and sirens going off and stuff.”

“We gotta make sure the police and the military don't hurt him! Let's go down and talk to them and maybe we can buy some time and figure something out!”

“Got it!”

With that, the sisters jump off the building together and take off. Blake and Weiss are left, absolutely dumbfounded by all of this.

“What in the world are we going to do about this?” Weiss sighs. “How did it even get to this point?”

“Maybe for now we can try to lure him to an unpopulated area?” Blake suggests.

“Good idea.”

With a nod of agreement, Weiss follows after her teammate as they take off, leaping across the rooftops to try and get as near to Zwei as possible. They manage to get onto the building closest to his head, at which point Weiss calls out for him.

“Oh, Zwei~ Who's the most handsome puppy?”

Recognizing her voice, Zwei turns to look at the two girls, his big doggy smile widening. He gives a loud bark that shakes the city and makes Blake's Faunus ears flatten tightly to her skull. Weiss wobbles to regain her balance and tries to keep Zwei's attention.

“T-That's a good boy. Come follow us!” She turns to take off in the opposite direction, casting a glyph to propel herself.

But Blake is just a second too late to avoid that giant, wet tongue.

Zwei licks her clean off her feet, and the sensation of saliva seeping into her entire body makes Blake's stomach heave.

“Ugh! Gross!” The spit weighs her down just long enough for Zwei's teeth to bite into her shirt. With a shriek, Blake is lifted high into the air for Zwei to show off his new prize. “No!” Blake screams. “Ugh, let me down you big, dumb dog!”

But Zwei is so proud of his catch. He holds Blake up high for all of Vale to see. Blake shrieks, flailing helplessly.

“Put me down! Ruby! Yang! Weiss! Someone help me!”

Far below, the sisters hear their teammate's cries. Ruby swallows.

“Uhhh...”

“Shit.”

Weiss is still trying to lure Zwei away from the citizens when she realizes Blake has been captured. She skids to a halt and turns around to find Zwei has lost interest in following her and wants to go back towards the crowds to show off Blake. Weiss grunts and draws her rapier.

“I guess I have no choice!”

With an expert hand gesture, she casts a massive glyph in midair behind herself, a bright blue glow lighting up the town. It catches Zwei's attention and he turns back to look at the giant circle.

Weiss draws in a deep breath and focuses on her summoning.

Piece by piece, she draws out the Giant Armor, until it stands fully in the middle of the town, the same height as Zwei.

Blake's jaw drops in shock. Was Weiss really going to fight Zwei with the Giant armor? With Blake dangling helplessly in between?

“W-Weiss!” she wails. “Wh-What are you-”

“Brace yourself!” Weiss calls back.

With that, she commands the armor to lift its massive blade. Zwei's excited eyes follow the motion and his stumpy tail begins to wag, his paws bouncing in place.

For a second, the entire town is suspended in silence and anticipation, Ruby and Yang in particular.

Then, Weiss breaks the silence with a loud shout.

“Fetch!”

With that, the Giant Armor releases its blade, and sends it hurling far across the town, over the buildings and into the distance. The weapon arcs and curves like a frizbee in midair.

With a yip of excitement, Zwei opens his jaws, drops Blake, and stampedes off after the sword.

Blake hadn't been expecting to be dropped so suddenly. She isn't prepared. With a shriek, she plummets down to the streets below, unable to adjust herself in time.

But before she can splatter to the ground, Weiss darts in on a trail of glyphs and catches her safely in her arms.

And the next thing Blake knows, she's gasping awake in bed, her eyes wide and ears flattened. Weiss is curled up next to her, sleeping peacefully. Yang is snoring lightly above her as always, and Ruby is muttering in her sleep from her bunk across the room.

Frantically, Blake sits up and checks the foot of her bed, then scours the floor until she finds the last member of their team. Zwei is curled up snugly at the foot of Weiss' bed, his body the normal, unthreatening size of fifteen inches long.

With a heavy sigh of relief, Blake flops back down onto her bed. The movement wakes Weiss, who stirs beside her, blinking herself awake.

“Blake? Is something the matter?”

The Faunus girl wipes her sleeve over her face before turning to her girlfriend with a smile. She pecks Weiss' cheek sweetly.

“Just a really weird dream.”

“Are you all right?”

 “I'm fine.”

Content with that, Blake wraps her arms around Weiss and snuggles into her to enjoy the lazy morning.

But all throughout the remainder of the day, she can't bring herself to look at Zwei.
