- Tartar: Hold on, you’re saying there’s magic that can help me? // What the heck kinda magic can do that?
- Coco: This is an "Earth Rune”... // "A rune with the power to govern earth. // It allows you to alter the form of earth
- itself.” // It’s created tunnels for us and destroyed boulders, turning them to sand... It’s saved me time and time again.
- Page 02
- Tartar: But how does that have anything to do with our situation now?
- Coco: "When you change the keystone, the magic changes, too..." // The keystone determines how the magic will materialize.
- // Draw the keystone too long and the magic will go shooting off... // Add an angle, and the magic will twist, too. // Magic
- really is super honest with you
- Page 03
- Tartar: Magic is... // honest... // I don’t really get it... What’s the gist?
- Coco: The keystone... // This magic can, by nature, turn things into very small, sand-like particles. // Draw the inverse of
- the crushing keystone to reverse its usual effect, and what do you get?
- Tartar: Reverse it... // And it becomes magic that can give form to sand-like stuff...!
- Page 04
- Coco: Yeah. // And you, Tartar... // You know a lot about the original forms of these powders. // Since you've memorized
- them all...
- SFX: Glow
- Coco: It should show you the solution...!
- SFX: Pwo oof...
- Coco: ...Huh?
- Tartar: Hmm...
- Page 05
- Coco: I'm so weak I really can’t do a thing, huh // (I'm all worn out and shaky) // And after I said magic is so honest...
- SFX: Pull
- Tartar: Y-you can’t help that!
- Coco: Please just forget how cool I was trying to look a minute ago... // I'm so embarrassed that I’m turning bright red
- Tartar: It’s fine! I said I don’t mind! // Hey. // So all I have to do // is try redrawing this?
- Coco: If you can make it more balanced that’d be good...
- Page 06
- Tartar: Don't know about how good I'll draw it, // but I am pretty good at making sure things are balanced // since I’m
- always doing stuff like that.
- Page 07
- Tartar: SO, // about these keystones. // Is it all right if draw the left and right sides // along with the top and bottom
- too? // Magic and pens have similarities, even if pens are three dimensional. // In both cases, you’ve got to craft them
- from lots of different angles.
- Right and Left Arrows: Bloop
- Top and Bottom Arrows: Forming
- Tartar: It looks like it might “leak” a bit like this. // I think those parts might not form correctly. // Oh, // sorry! //
- I'm not trying to mess with your magic or anything...
- Coco: No worries. It’s basic magic. // And besides, if you come up with something to change the effect of the magic, that
- means it's your spell already and not mine, so don’t worry about it.
- Page 08
- Coco: Give it a try and see.
- SFX: Grip
- Tartar: Okay. // I will. // ...It worked.
- Page 09
- SFX: Shoop
- Tartar: It worked... // Just for a second, but it worked! // Wow! Cool! // I did it! Me!
- Coco: Woohoo // Cough cough cough // Ack! // Sorry! // The medicine, right! // ...Oh, dang! // That was close! None of these
- are healing herbs.. // I totally thought it'd be in here! // Maybe they’re in the storage room... // Okay! // I'm gonna use
- this magic to go find the right herbs! // I can do it with this!
- Page 10
- SFX: Tap
- Page 11
- Tartar: This looks a little bit // like a magic supply shop.
- SFX: Glow
- Tartar: Thorntree. // Pinwheel Flowers. // Sea Rose. // A Rainbee’s Hive from a Sleepy Willow...
- Page 12
- Tartar: I know them all. //I know what they all look like... // They're the same as the ones I memorized from the book... //
- Amazing... // Each time I hold the paper above my head // it's like the world is coming into focus. // Everything I remember
- SFX: Conk
- Tartar: Coming together to give me the answer I seek.
- Page 13
- Tartar: I’m becoming capable of doing more // and more // It's wonderful.
- SFX: Wipe
- Tartar: Found it! // This is the healing herb!
- SFX: Creak
- Tartar: I'd better take it to Coco quick!
- SFX: Shoop
- Page 14
- Nurse: Hey! // You! // What are you doing there!!
- Tartar: Uh...
- Nurse: You didn’t think anyone was here? // That is simply not possible! A hospital must never be without staff! // I was
- preparing the west wing to receive the fire victims. // We’re going to be busy after that fire.
- Tartar: ...
- Page 15
- Nurse: There are no labels on the medicine to prevent unauthorized use. // You might've made her taken medicine that she
- shouldn’t be given. // You had no idea whether we had already prescribed her something else entirely.
- Tartar: I’m sorry... I panicked...
- SFX: Clink
- Nurse: Your concern for your friend is commendable, // but medicine can just as easily become poison, // you need to make
- sure you learn the correct knowledge. // Although... you chose right. A healing herb does just the trick in this situation.
- // Seems you know a bit about medicinal herbs, hm? // Are you interested in practicing medicine?
- Tartar: Huh?! Oh, no, I’m...
- Page 16
- Nurse: Ah, I see. // That hat... // So you’re an apprentice witch, hmm?
- Tartar: ...
- Page 17
- Baby: [Crying]
- Qifry: I'm so glad we made it in time. // I never would have thought a baby would be sleeping upstairs.
- Woman: Oh my dear boy! // Thank you so much, witch!
- Qifry: Other witches from Karoon have come running, so I’d better get back.
- SFX: Turn
- Qifry: I'm worried about my disciple. // I need to be by her side right n— // rgh!
- SFX: Grab
- Man: Hey now! Just where do you think you’re going?
- Page 18
- Qifry: B-Back to the hospital...
- Man: What, and leave our shop here to burn?! // That fire's not out yet, you know! // You witches just wave your fingers and
- bam! You’ve got magic. // Must always get to take it easy, eh? // Well, now’s the time to put your magic to work, m’boy!
- SFX: Slap
- Qifry: Uhh // My life isn’t all fun and games, actually...
- SFX: Mutter
- Witch 1: "The Unknowing" just don’t get it.
- Witch 2: Please feel free to leave. // My teacher and I are here.
- Qifry: Thank you...
- Page 19
- SFX: Fwsh
- Qifry: It's not easy or simple // at all // Otherwise // why would any of us ever worry or suffer?
- SFX: Creak
- Page 20
- SFX: Sh f
- SFX: Press
- Page 21
- Mmh... // I can finally breathe again...
- Nurse: That's great! You got a lot of rest, huh? // Your fever has come down, too.
- Coco: Maybe I got better cuzza the medicine. // Thank you, Tartar.
- Tartar: ! // I'd say you’re the one who helped me...
- Page 22
- Tartar: Witches are awesome
- Coco: Yeah...! // They really are.
- Tartar: No, I mean, I was trying to say that you’re awesome, Coco!
- Coco: Huh // Even though my magic is all over the place?! (It went all like blooop)
- Qifry: Heey!
- Nornoa: Hey, you two!
- Page 23
- Nornoa: You had me worried sick. // I heard there was fire, and then you didn’t come home that night
- Tartar: I'm sorry, gramps.
- Nornoa: Thank you for letting me know, Qifrey.
- Tartar: Oh! // That's right. // Um, I... // I wanted to ask about that light. // The big flash, last time you visited the
- shop...
- Qifry and Nornoa: Light?
- Page 24
- Tartar: ... // So Mr. Qifrey didn't see it, either? // Well, nevermind. // Maybe I was totally off the mark... // Is it rude
- to be suspicious of him without being sure? // I'll try looking into that big flash of light // more on my own.
- Boatwoman: The boat will depart soon.
- Qifry: Then let’s head back, too.
- Coco: Yeah
- Tartar: Coco!
- Page 25
- Tartar: I'll make // a pen just for you, Coco! // And then I'll cross this river using my own magic // to come and deliver
- it to you! // Promise!
- Coco: ...! // Okay!
- Page 26
- Coco: I'll be looking forward to it!
- Nornoa: Looks like you made yourself a really good friend, Tartar!
- Tartar: Yeah! // She’s amazing // And I’m sure // she’s going to become someone even more amazing.
- Page 27
- Nornoa: I believe you can become someone even more amazing too.
- Tartar: Heheh.
- Qifry: I see... // So you couldn’t sleep this whole time because of bad dreams, huh?
- Page 28
- Qifry: Dreams are hard to deal with. // Especially since magic that makes you sleep is forbidden... // At any rate, we can
- come up with a countermeasure to deal with this problem if we must. // Necessity is the mother of invention.
- Coco: Thank you. // But // I feel like I'm fine now.
- Qifry: You won’t push yourself too hard?
- Coco: Nope! After all...
- Coco: Now // I have hope in my heart!
- Page 29 and 30
- Coco: Draw // a keystone inverted // and the effect of the magic will be reversed, too.
- SFX: Rustle Rustle Rustle
- Coco: It follows that
- SFX: Rustle
- Coco: forbidden magic should work the same way. // If I invert the keystone drawn in that picture book // maybe I can even
- reverse the magic that turned mom to stone...!!
- Page 31
- Tetia: Cocooo! // Heey! // We were so worried! // Is everything okay? Your fever all gone? (I’m so glad you’re back)
- Agete: Whew
- Page 32
- Cloak guy: Looks like your little "gift" didn’t go over so well, huh? // It appears the Pointed Hats who have become
- complacent from peace are not all fools // We mustn’t adopt such a slothful attitude. // Now is the time to strike
- Eye guy: Well then // will you be the one to go next? // You, the very embodiment of forbidden magic.
- SFX: Float
- Page 33
- Cloak guy: That’s my plan. // We shouldn't let the change escape us when the times for the tests come. // We will not miss
- our mark.
- Text: Witch Hat Atelier V3: END
- Animals of Witch Hat (Volume 3 omake)
- Brushbug
- [First appears in chapter 4]
- Fond of the smell of magic ink, its fur is brush-like. If a bottle of magic ink is left uncapped, sometimes a brushbug will
- dip its body in to soak up the ink, then proceed to roam about the room, creating quite a mess, it seems... Brushbugs don’t
- just have white fur; they come in many colors and with many patterns. It prefers to eat nuts and berries. When they have
- just been born, brushbugs are shorter and rounder.
- Winged Horse
- [First appears in chapter 1]
- Even in the cities, these winged horses draw the carriages ridden by those who are comparatively wealthy. Experts debate
- whether these creatures should be classified as “four-legged animals” or "eight-legged animals”, since sets of two wings
- each sprout from where the ears and tail would be on a horse which could be classified as limbs. In an effort to protect
- their hooves, taking off or landing from paving stone surfaces is forbidden. Their speed on land is a little slower than
- that of a regular horse.
- Giant Scale Dragon
- [First appears in chapter 5]
- These dragons are almost impossible to find near places humans inhabit. Many types exist, from meat-eating carnivores to
- herbivores. Fiercely territorial, they often lash out their long tail like a whip to attack any who draw near. Able to glide
- through the air, they are also resistant to fire. Their scales and the shells of their eggs are used as ingredients for
- magical ink, but are extremely valuable.
- Cadphon, the Many-Winged Bird
- [First appears in chapter 8]
- Its wings move like a dragonfly's, with four sets of wings each capable of moving independently. Moreover, by means of that,
- it can change direction quickly mid-flight, and they’re able to manifest a method of flying different than common birds. The
- length of its body is approximately 60 cm and approximately 150 cm when the wings are extended. The type that uses a set of
- wings as feet is called a “gryphon".
