Rebellion information and speculah:
2
3
— Then, how long was the complete screenplay?
4
5
Gen: I was still trying to compose for a second season back then. Despite that, it was still short. Probably enough for two hours or so.
6
7
Shinbo: The screenplay itself was only about an hour and a half in length. It gained another 30 minutes during initial sketching. Rather than a movie, the process is much closer to that of the original Madoka Magica and the compilation movies.

This means Rebellion should feel episodic in nature, with separate threads of issues and resolutions that delineates clearly from one to another. Since Gen only have 1.5 worth of material in the first draft, we should able to expect Rebellion to have 4~5 of such plot points, a few of which we can make some educated guesses on based on the previews:
11
12
* Homura forgot Madoka: Homura feeling alone; lost Madoka's ribbon (?); remembers Madoka and try to convince others.
13
* Cat fight: Something happened between Homura and Mami (during a demon hunt?); Mami runs off fuming; Homura chases after her; End in a fight; Homura's "solatine" scene(?)
14
* Hitomi's boyfriend troubles: Insensitive boyfriend Kyousuke; Hitomi's nightmare -> unusual demon -> similar power to Witches.
15
* Sixth magical girl (maybe the unusual demon/hitomi)?
16
* I miss you Resolution: Homura finally reunites with Madoka.

20
Questions:
21
22
* Whose rebellion? Homura, Kyubey, or someone else?
23
* Why are Homura and Mami fighting? And why Homura is using guns again?
24
* What's Hitomi's role? Is she the 6th magical girl? What did she wish for?
25
* Why Hitomi's nightmare (demon) turn into something like a witch?
26
* How did Homura forget Madoka? Where did her ribbons go? How did Homura react when she remembered again?
27
* Why did Homura tried to commit suicide? Is she?

Witches…
33
They are the most evil of messagers who spread despair.
34
And when magical girls plunge into despair,
35
this is the cursed form which they take in the end.
36
37
In the past, I repeatedly returned to the same point in time,
38
fighting to resist this cruel destiny.
39
And in the end, thanks to one girl’s sacrifice…
40
this cruel cycle of hope and despair was finally broken,
41
and the world was guided towards a new truth.
42
43
Or so we thought…

46
Mami
47
Don’t even think of pursuing me.
48
Otherwise, you’ll end up having to fight me.

Kyubey
52
That’s Shizuki’s nightmare..

55
Kyoko
56
Hitomi sure has her hands full…
57
All because she has such an insensitive guy for a boyfriend.
58
59

60
Kyubey
61
This is certainly like the power
62
of these ‘witches’ you keep talking about.
63
64

65
Kyoko
66
It doesn’t seem like you’re teasing me, huh.
67
You’re serious, aren’t you?

In this world devoid of hope,
72
where grief and hatred continue on an endless cycle…

We dream of the day when we’ll be reunited
74
with that familiar smiling face.

78
Sorry I kept you waiting.

You’ve been hanging on all this time, haven’t you?

Despite his reputation Urobuchi is a pretty restrained writer and he excels at not going overboard and knowing when enough is enough. Madoka started out really light and got dark fast, but only because of a very poignant and brief plot twist.
130
131
He also does a good job at having the characters interact and build relationships with each other. To use Madoka again (mostly because more people have seen it), you'll notice that each major character has a unique personal relationship with each other major character and at least one scene devoted to exploring or developing that. These are a few of the things I admire in his writing, personally.
