- | Bullet Hell Artistry #3 - TTBD
+ | Bullet Hell Artistry #3 - Kobito
For this contest I'm using a 25 point rating scale so I don't get fined. |
|
Danmaku Quality: 15/25 |
|
Danmaku Quality encompasses the quality of the danmaku in your script. "Good" patterns will equal a "good" score in this category. What makes a pattern good is subjective, but the #1 factor is fun. A flashy, gorgeous pattern that isn't fun won't fare well here. Note that aesthetic factors can still factor into this - proper usage of sound effects and graphics can make an unfair pattern fair, and improper usage of those can make an otherwise-fair pattern unfair. |
|
To be more clear, an "average" pattern is a 5. You can gain or lose points and I'll probably tell you why. |
|
Individual patterns will be rated out of 10. The average of that will be taken and scaled to calculate the Danmaku Quality score. |
|
Aesthetics: 5/25 |
|
This category encompasses how your entry looks (and sounds). While danmaku should absolutely come first, visual and audio elements are also a part of the gameplay experience. |
|
Final Boss-ness: 5/25 |
|
5 points will be dedicated to how well the character feels transformed into a final boss. It's a judgment of how their themes translate into a more "serious" fight. Mostly subjective, but I'll try to give detail about why I rated something highly/lowly in this category. |

|
- | Played as Reimu with all her default shot options.
+ | Played on Hard Mode woo.
|
- | Nonspell 1: Those missiles sure home aggressively. It's cool and fun, tough but not unreasonably so. 7.75/10.
+ | Nonspell 1: Not all that fun to dodge, doesn't look all that good...kind of difficult compared to later patterns too? Thoroughly average. 5/10.
|
- | Spell 1: Another pattern that is primarily aimed, but it's pretty fun! Highly enjoyable. 8.5/10.
+ | Spell 1: A streaming pattern, in essence, but it's fun and quite pretty with the rainbow danmaku. Good. 7.5/10.
|
- | Nonspell 2: I like this non a lot. It encourages movement in places that aren't just the bottom of the screen, and it does so with warning indicators that aren't cheap. I did have the tiniest bit of trouble noticing the targets, but making them more opaque might mean that they get in the way. Either way, very good. 9/10.
+ | Nonspell 2: More fun, nicer to look at, and reasonable difficulty compared to the previous non. Good. 7.5/10.
|
- | Spell 2: Died the first time but I think I understood this one pretty immediately afterwards. Very fun spell, feels like you're under more pressure than you really are. 8.5/10.
+ | Spell 2: A more difficult variant of that one Kogasa card I'm too lazy to look up. Very fair, I like this too. 8/10.
|
- | Nonspell 3: Oh no her thingy blew up. This non is also quite fun - it's kind of odd how the targeting indicator both means "here is being shot at" and "here is where you're safe", but that comes with learning patterns. I'd personally try having them be different colors or something of that sort. 8/10.
+ | Nonspell 3: Simple, yet fun to dodge. I'd say it's quite elegant in that manner. 7.75/10.
|
- | Spell 3: Interesting one. The glowballs that explode based on proximity actually aren't that threatening (probably on purpose?) so I just dodged the pattern Nitori shot while dealing with the easy explosions. Still a good pattern, just doesn't appeal as much as the previous spells. 7.75/10.
+ | Spell 3: Now this is another streaming spell that's I'd say isn't as mechanically different as the previous AND it's not as good as the previous streaming spell. Actually hitting her can kind of be a pain. 6.75/10.
|
- | Nonspell 4: Now we have a Nitori nonspell that feels like the typical Nitori non, but taken to a level that's appropriate for a final boss. Good. 8.5/10.
+ | Nonspell 4: The lasers don't look super good and I'd say this is oddly easy compared to the rest of the script, but it's not like this pattern is bad. 6.75/10.
|
- | Spell 4: Aaaah spinning aaaa but it's not another survival card where you go in a circle the whole time. I quite like this; I thought getting out of the middle in time was a little more challenging than previous attacks but it's not really a detriment. 8.75/10.
+ | Spell 4: Safety umbrellas are neat. I'm particularly bad at this pattern, but it's a good idea and I think it's executed well. 8.25/10.
|
- | Spell 5: A challenging multi-phase script ender. I feel like dodging the aimed bursts of bullets came down to luck occasionally since the small circle bullets are spread randomly? Otherwise it's a fun and challenging fight-ender. 8/10.
+ | Nonspell 5: Pretty rainbow is pretty, but the pattern is kind of generic spirals and the aimed superfast burst could've maybe used a brief warning laser? Not that it's bad, of course. C'est fine. 6.5/10.
|
- | The stage portion afterwards is pretty interesting (but we no judge stages oop).
+ | Spell 5: Kind of a weird one, but I like it enough. 7/10.
|
- | Danmaku Score: 8.31/10 (scaled to 12.46/15)
+ | Spell 6: Neat idea for a multi-phase ending spell. Kind of annoying in the circling phase to have all the umbrellas flashing since they're low HP, and the last one doesn't FEEL like it's very patterned, but it's good. 7.5/10.
|
- | However, I will note that this difficulty is very high. I struggled to clear it, and you should be mindful that not all judges can play this. I'll chop off the .46 in the above score because of this and just make it 12/15.
+ | Danmaku Score: 7.14/10 (scaled to 10.70/15)
====================================================================================================================== |
|
- | Aesthetically, I'd say this script is very good. Everything meshed together very well and I found it overall impressive. 4.5/5.
+ | Aesthetically, I'd say this script is a little above average. It's not exactly high-budget or anything, but it's fine. 2.75/5.
====================================================================================================================== |
|
- | I think the script's final boss-ness is extremely high. It works off of Nitori's existing themes in amped-up ways. 4.5/5.
+ | I think the script's final boss-ness is above average too. It takes her existing themes and amps them up. 3/5.
|
- | OVERALL SCORE 12 + 4.5 + 4.5 = 21/25
+ | OVERALL SCORE 10.70 + 2.75 + 3 = 16.45/25
