Pokemon Stadium 2 Challenge Cups FAQ:
2
3
Q: What is this run?
4
A: Just doing a run of all the Challenge Cups. When I want to run something but don't have anything fully routed, this is the perfect run thing to just jump in and do since...you can't really route, since it's all random!
5
6
Q: What is with the order you're doing?
7-
A: So since individual cups are now tracked as ILs on the leaderboard ( https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnstadium2/individual_levels ) I'm making sure I do my absolute worst one first, to try and cheekily improve them. After that I'm just going in some weird circle, doing the same cups back to back but switching between Round 1 and 2 as little as possible.
7+
A: Since I'm actually racing 5upamayne, I'm going in order. We're only racing the first round of cups, but I'll continue and do round 2 as well if my time is any good.
8
9
Q: Is that Pokemon Shiny?
10
A: If you have to ask, no, it isn't. However, when Pokemon get given nicknames, it can slightly alter their colour (which is why trainers that aren't leaders have nicknames on their Pokemon to show off this feature)
11
12
It is actually possible that a Shiny Pokemon will show up in Challenge Cup, as everything there is randomised. However, it will actually sparkle, like seen in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKx37qF79TA
13
14
Q: What is with the capitalisation in the names?
15
A: As mentioned above, Pokemon having nicknames alters their colours. In Challenge Cup, they did this just by having half of the name in lower and upper case (so you still know what Pokemon you are using, they keep the same spelling).
16
There are two exceptions to this, that I know of. Togetic is incorrectly spelt as 'Topetic', and Tangela for some reason gets full caps.
17
18
Q: What is the record?
19
A: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnstadiumext#Challenge_Cup_Stadium_2 | See: Splits
20
21
Q: So what's your goal?
22
A: I don't really have one? My PB is actually quite solid, so any improvement is good.
23
24-
Q: How does Challenge Cup work? Are all the Pokemon and moves random?
24+
25-
A: Yes and no, there is randomisation of moves and Pokemon both on your and your opponents, but the follow reasonable rules. GMS made a fairly in depth write up about it that you can read here: https://genericmadscientist.github.io/posts/challenge-cup/
25+
26
27
Q: Why do you reset after completing a cup?
28
A: This is just to skip the small cutscene that shows all the Pokes you used in the cup. Saves just a few seconds each time.
29
30
Q: What is with those split icons? What does A and B mean?
31
A: This is a grading system for all of my splits. I'm sure you are familiar with grades, A+ being the best then going down from there. So the idea is, if the split has an A+ next to it, my time there was really good and would be very difficult to beat. If it's a C though for example, it was quite poor, and I should be able to save time there pretty easily.
32

33
This way, everyone watching has more accurate information on where I can save time, and where I should be making up time. Also that all time loss is not equal, as losing time vs an A+ split isn't really that bad, whereas losing time vs a C split is really bad. It'll probably take a while for a lot of people watching to pick up the meaning so I will appreciate everyone who explains how this works (correctly) in chat to new people.
