 born into what was considered a "privileged" family in singapore, malaysia, chou's life started off a bit rocky. her parents weren't the most caring, and rather than smothering their newborn baby girl with the love she needed, they let themselves get distracted by work and didn't develop any relationship with her. rather, chou was practically raised her her older brother, and he became her best friend. the fact that he was much older than her had no meaning with his kind and gentle nature. to outsiders, their relationship is a bit complicated -- chou's personality comes off as a bit spoilt, and she can be very stubborn, but her brother is the most caring person ever and lets her do what she wants. when chou reached the age of eight, her family relocated to shanghai, china to "be closer to the rest of their family" (it was really because her father's mother insisted on being able to see her grandchildren.) two years later, her brother decided to pursue his dreams of being an idol, leaving china for seoul and joining jyp entertainment. chou went with him, and they both stayed with their mother's sister who lived in korea. a few years later, determined to follow in his footsteps because of her admiration of him plus her love for music, chou auditioned for various companies (the first being jyp, and then later other big names like yg and sm) but was rejected from all of them, until finally she was accepted into pledis entertainment. although she wasn't very close with her parents, chou always makes sure they're both alright and tries her best to strengthen the relationship between them.
