1 | + | Pokemon Unbound Blind Race FAQ: |
2 | ||
3 | - | Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator? |
3 | + | Q: What is Pokemon Unbound? |
4 | - | A: No, I'm playing on a DS (phat) with a capture board installed allowing me to record game footage |
4 | + | A: It's a romhack. The base is Fire Red, but it's a totally new setting/region etc. |
5 | You can read more about it here: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=382178
6 | - | Q: Why do you choose Piplup? |
6 | + | |
7 | - | A: Because I think Empoleon is the fastest way to beat this game. |
7 | + | Q: What is a Blind Race? |
8 | A: It means neither of us know anything about the game or where to go. It's a race, but we're going into it "blind"
9 | - | Q: Is Chimchar not better? I thought the record used Infernape |
9 | + | (It does not mean we are using blindfolds) |
10 | - | A: It does. Currently both are well capable of getting the record, but I still think Empoleon is better. |
10 | + | |
11 | - | Basically Chimchar/Monferno has a much better early game than Piplup/Prinplup, but Empoleon has a much better late game than Infernape. Chimchar runs are more consistent to get going because of the better early game, but I believe at the top end of runs, Empoleon will end up getting a better time. |
11 | + | Also it means do not tell either of us where to go - that's very much against the spirit of the race (and I will ban you) |
12 | ||
13 | - | Q: Is your PB with Piplup? |
13 | + | Q: What are you racing to? |
14 | - | A: Yes. |
14 | + | A: We're breaking the race up into 4 parts - Race 1 was from Start - Badge 3, Race 2 to get Badge 4-5, and Race 3 to get Badge 6-7, and Race 4 to finish the game. |
15 | You should be able to determine based on how many badges I have, which race number this is.
16 | - | Q: Do you have any route changes/improvements since your PB? |
16 | + | |
17 | - | A: Yes. I'm using an entirely different seed, which has quite a few improvements in itself |
17 | + | Q: What is <x>? |
18 | - | 1) Less time is spent manipulating the RNG to get the desired Piplup. Saves about 10 seconds. |
18 | + | A: I don't know. See Question #2. |
19 | - | 2) The Piplup has better stats. The old Piplup was 24/27/28/29/23/29, the new one is 23/30/31/30/31/31. |
19 | + | |
20 | Q: Where is <x>? | |
21 | - | The bigger route difference is that I'm fighting less optional trainers for experience, which while it saves a significant amount of time, also makes the early game a touch harder. I've cut out 2 trainers between Mars and Gardenia (saves roughly a minute), and another before Maylene (saves roughly 30 seconds). This experience is made up for by getting an extra Rare Candy before Wake (costs roughly 35 seconds). |
21 | + | A: I don't know. See Question #2. |
22 | ||
23 | - | Also a number of smaller changes throughout, including that I'm not longer teaching Flash Cannon, fighting Rival 3 with Prinplup leading, the option of higher risk taking strats with Torrent in the late game, and the manip path at the start obviously being different. |
23 | + | Q: Does this game have <x>? |
24 | A: I don't know. See Question #2, and additionally for you own benefit, Question #1. |
