He's a naturally quiet person, and when outside of his comfort zone seems to curl in on himself despite his rather tall and intimidating appearance. Only when he's close to others will he begin to open up and show who he really is, yet it takes a while to gain his trust and respect. If you really want to be his friend, you will have to try and keep at it without getting discouraged.
     Inside, Karu is a surprisingly sweet and gentle person. He is kind to a fault, never thinking of himself and willing to risk himself for the sake of others, and will not hesitate to help you even if he doesn't like or know you. One of his fatal flaws is that he forgives too easily - he believes in second chances (and more) for everyone, and it leads to him being taken advantage of and used often. You could say he's a bit naive, even; he doesn't like to see faults in people, and that has hurt him many times in the past. It's why he keeps mostly to himself, for he doesn't want to be hurt or used again.

+   While a kind and sweet person, Karu can be quite blunt and harsh at times, which surprised his fellow members at first. He often speaks without thinking, blurting whatever comes to his mind without realizing it might hurt others, and while it has provided many laughs for the group at the boy's airheaded nature, he's often gotten himself into major trouble for his dangerous mouth.
    Along with this, Karu has a temper that isn't to be messed with. He doesn't get angry easily, believing that words will often solve everything and has an avid dislike for confrontation, but if you push his buttons too much or get a bit too personal, he won't hesitate to lash out on you both physically and mentally. He usually isn't bothered, and keeps most of his negative feelings to himself because he feels the others will get annoyed by his feelings, but there have been a few instances where he's either broken down or blown up and the others have had to handle him.

 background: Growing up on a farm sounds boring to most other children, but to Karu it was the best time of his life. His parents owned a small family farm away from the city, and Karu and his siblings were raised there with homeschooling most of his childhood. They (all four children) spent most of their days running through rice patches and down by the river that ran behind their home. They would stumble in muddy, breathless, and sweaty at noon for a lunch with their mother, and then out into the farm area to help their father tend to their source of income.
 Often times, the older man would let the two oldest of his kids (Karu and his elder sister, Ako) go to the market in the next city over with him to sell whatever produce they harvested. Sitting in their designated stall, the fourteen and sixteen year old could see a group of street performers in the busy square across from them. The group of young adults had nothing more than a stereo and their voices, but they performed to Korean songs like TVXQ and Super Junior, and Karu thought it was the coolest thing he had ever seen.
    Determined, he began spending his days indoors teaching himself dances instead of outdoors with his siblings, throat constantly sore with how much he sang along to songs both Japanese and Korean idol groups. After much begging (annoying) his parents to at least let him give it a shot, he attended one of the international auditions and was accepted by a well-known company where he trained until he was sixteen. During that time, he began learning Korean as best he could with no help, since he was the only Japanese trainee under the company.
    Two years into his training, his mother became very sick with what seemed to be breast cancer. Explaining the situation in his somewhat clear English to the company, he immediately withdrew from his training and few back home to Japan where he could be with his family. He all together gave up on his dream to help support his family, his father having to give up their farm to pay for treatment and get a job in the city, closer to the hospital she was getting treatment from. After a lot of chemo and therapy, the doctors believed that they had effectively gotten rid of whatever tumors the older woman had. Seemingly cancer-free, Karu's mother had urged him to try and audition again, despite already being eighteen years old.
    Unsure and reluctant to leave his family again, Karu had promised to only to appease his mother, and wasn't expecting to be accepted into KDH Entertainment at all. Eagerly, he accepted the offer and picked his training back up. Soon afterwards, his mother was called back in for another round of chemo, but urged him to continue training and that she was fine. He was wary himself, but did so for his mother.

 During his trainee days at DKH, Karu learned Korean from a fellow female trainee under the company. Of course, he eventually formed a crush on her and even asked her out. They lasted quite a while, too, until the female trainee left the company and felt they shouldn't go out anymore. He wasn't completely heartbroken about it, but did feel hurt by the experience.
