| Hello class, my name is Teppia and today is my ninth birthday! This summer I went on an adventure and I want to tell you about it!
| ||
| - | I like to go around the city with my friends. We like to meet at the plaza because there are lots of fun things to do there! We meet in front of the bus stop. Usually I am last to get there because my aunt Kelonthia is tutoring me. But that day I got there and John was missing! We waited forever and we even missed the light show that the mannacrafter group people make! That made us sad, but when we found out why he was late we were even sadder! John told us that he got bullied! He said he thinks its because he is human and hangs out with us even though we are elves. And then he said that they took his favourite book and threw it through a window of an abandoned tenement. Pellia really loves books and she got super mad and said we should go get it. We all went “Yeah!” except for John who looked very worried. But we made him take us to the tenement and when we got there we saw why he was so scared. The tenement was very scary! |

| The paint was all chipped away and the plants in the tiny lawn in front of it were all dead and it looked very dark inside and there was a big and broken chain link fence and the building was huge! John pointed to one of the windows on the fourth story that was broken and he said the book was there!
| ||
| He said that he couldn't go get it because he would get in super trouble if he died there because then his mum would find out he goes into elf neighbourhoods. And also he didn't want to die.
| ||
| And Pellia said that even though she loves books she was too scared to go and that it was John's fault anyway. I said that even though it happened to John that doesn't make it his fault and she looked at me and said “then you should do it!” And then my other friends started saying “Yeah she should do it!” We argued a bit about which one of us should be chosen but in the end they agreed I was the chosen one. I was super scared, but they were pressuring me a lot. So I said yes.
| ||
| I opened the gate to the and took a step inside. I looked back and they looked at me and they looked very scared! But I kept walking and I got all the way to the door.
| ||
| But then there was a very loud creaking sound and I ran back really really fast. I got to the gate and I was about to open it and tell my friends I couldn't do it. But then I realized that I was at the gate so I was safe and I could think about it first. I was happy with myself for thinking about it before making the decision and I knew Kelonthia would be proud!
| ||
| Aunt Kelonthia is super nice to me and teaches me sooo much! She is very much like the history person she was named after because she is very good at rationality!
| ||
| I decided to use her lessons to think about the situation. I thought about what could possibly make such spooky creaky noises. I thought that it might be a big bad monster but it could also be a wind blowing strong.
| ||
| A big bad monster would definitely make loud creaking sounds all the time when it walked. And wind blowing might make creaky noises, but not as likely, especially when the creaking is so loud!
| ||
| - | But then I got to the next part in the lesson she taught me. I thought that there is a huge amount of wind blowing all the time and my mum says nobody has seen a monster in the city in the last 50 years! That means that even though one wind might not cause creaks as much as one monster, there's sooo much more winds that blow that the wind has waaay more chances. So then its super likely that it was just the wind! |

| I was still scared though, but I decided to try again! I walked slowly up to the door and I heard another loud creaking but I opened it anyway! And I didn't get eaten!

| - | I let my eyes get used to the dark and I started to move inside. There was a long hallway that ended with a stairwell. But before the stairwell there was a door that was wide open. It looked very o-om-omn-omniss... it looked very scary! When I was near the door I slowly leaned to look inside. I saw a pale white face staring right at me! I got super scared and I started running but then I remembered something super important! I remembered something my aunt said called uhh... P-Parry... Parry-doh-a? Its the thingy where you you see random stuff and your brain thinks that its a pattern like an animal or a tree or even a face. So I checked again and I saw that it was only some sheets! It made me laugh haha! |

| I continued on to the stairwell. I looked up it and I could see a faint light from a roof window really far up. It was up so high that I felt a little dizzy. I reminded myself that I only needed to get to the fourth story so I shouldn't feel overwhelmed. I took a step on the stairwell and it made a loud creaky noise. It was real dark so I carefully took more steps. By the time I got to the second floor stairwell it started to get very dusty and my eyes hurt and I was starting to cough real bad! I thought that my walking was making so many noises on the stairs that it must be kicking up a lot of dust too, so I stopped climbing the stairs. My eyes started to hurt even more and I coughed even harder. I was started to worrying I was going to die! But I realized I should think about it more carefully. I thought maybe I'm not as important to my surroundings as I think I am. And I thought maybe the dust has nothing to do with me, so I ran up the stairs! When I got to the fourth floor and it no longer felt dusty and I started felt a lot better. It turned out it was just dusty on the second and third floors!
| ||
| I looked around in the dark and I saw a door. I pushed the door but it wouldn't budge. I thought maybe it was locked so I confirmed by pushing again and it still wouldn't move. I was super angry, so to make absolutely sure I pushed another time! The door still didn't open so I thought for sure it was locked. I was sad because I was going to tell aunt Kelonthia how awesome I was for using her tutoring on my adventure. I wondered what she would say, and then I went oops! I realized I thought the door was locked and I was trying to confirm that was right by repeating the same thing over again. But I should have been trying to prove myself wrong! I thought what are all the things that unlocked doors do that locked doors can't? It took me awhile but I realized: some of them can be pulled open! I lightly pulled on the door, and it opened a tiny bit and I smiled super wide!
| ||
| Then I pulled hard but when I did I heard something fall over and shatter and then alarms started going off and I heard really really loud creaking from high up in the tenement! My brain immediately thought there was definitely a monster that I woke up that was coming down to eat me. I was panicking and I looked inside and saw broken glass on the floor. I looked up in the hallway and I could see there was a window at the end lighting everything up. I also saw all the doors were open, which was super weird! The sound of the alarm was bouncing around kind of weirdly but I was still sure that it was coming from the door on the far right. I ran to it and went inside and looked for a way to turn off the alarm. I saw a panel with some writing that said “In case of false alarm, hold upper button down for thirty seconds to turn off alarm in this housing unit, lower button for all unit alarms on this floor.” I could hear the creaking getting louder and closer! So I was just about to press the upper button cause I thought the sound was definitely from this unit, but I slashed that thought down with the Razor Of Oxham! For if there's even the tiniest chance that it was actually coming from a different part of the hallway, then the combined chances would have to be higher!
| ||
| I held the button down and started sweating more and more as I heard the creaking getting closer and closer. After awhile I decided I might have to hide so I looked around the room. That's when I noticed that a window pane was broken and I realized that was the window we saw outside! So I looked for John's book and there it was! Just then the alarm stopped and a little bit later the creaking stopped too. I was still super nervous and excited so I grabbed the book and started running. I ran all the way down and escaped out the front door!
| ||
| My friends saw me holding the book over my head and burst out cheering for me! I joined them and we were all super happy and high-fiving and hugging and excited and John was smiling! It was sooo cool!
| ||
| And that was my adventure! My aunt Kelonthia was very proud! Thank you! |
