A bit of a slower week because I got hung up on a few games trying to get times I was really proud of. I feel like if a game either has a larger leaderboard (5+) or no leaderboard, it might take me longer because I either have to compete against people who took the game really seriously, or I have to compete against my own metric of "good enough". Both are fairly high standards for running a game over the course of a few days.

This pace that I have been at lately is a pace I'm more comfortable with. Gives me enough time to work on each game 2-3 days, which is typically long enough to understand the game and put up a time I'm happy with with the strats I have come up with. This week I found a few real gems :^)

I think I am going to try to line up a few Halloween-appropriate games for October. Games like Monster Party, Monster in my Pocket, Nightmare on Elm Street, Splatterhouse Wanpakku Graffiti, things like that. If you have any suggestions, tweet them at me and I will definitely consider them. Toward the end of October, I will try to make some sort of schedule for specific games in general so that people who have either donated for a game or are looking forward to a game will be able to keep track of when it is happening. Probably a spreadsheet that I work through in order.

Spelunker is a really great speedgame, and I really want to bring my time down. I'm 2 seconds off 2nd place and about 30 seconds off WR. I don't know if I'll go for WR, but getting better at the game would be nice. It is extremely challenging and extremely punishing, and my time (6:46) was the result of 100s of resets over the course of a few nights.

WURM is a cool game, everybody should play it (or speedrun it). My WR would be pretty good, but there was a random, inexplicable death in the last stage (check the VOD if you don't believe me) that lost me about 20 seconds, so the run is improvable. Overall, A+ game.

Cool World had only been run by feasel, that I could see. His run was really good, and provided 90% of the routing I used. I modified it in a few significant ways that afforded me about 20 seconds of time savings, and on my final (world record) run, I discovered a brand new glitch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSK82LZNGyk) that would probably change the run pretty significantly for a time save of maybe 5-10 seconds. Maybe I'll improve it.

Darkman ate up several days (and a good bit of my sanity). This game is deceptive. It looks like a bad game that gets better once you learn how to control it better, that becomes bad again when you try to optimize the speedrun. I had one goal -- a deathless run -- but decided that it didn't seem like it was gonna happen after doing 8 hours of runs on Sunday.

I discovered both Stuart Little and Avenging Spirit from Gyoo's @SpeedrunWRs bot. I'll admit that I've been sniping games off of that that look interesting. Stuart Little was a silly little platformer with some deceptively difficult top-down RC Pro Am style stages. I ended up only doing Easy mode because of how hard of a time I was having perfecting my time. This time isn't even all that great, but it is decently optimized.

Avenging Spirit is a really amazing little GB platformer that I really fell in love with. After bopping that Free WR™ (8:40), I thought I was done with the game, but the guy who runs the leaderboard came back with a few small route improvements for a 8:33. So with the help of some people in chat and some extensive testing, ended up really improving the route and grinding the time down to 7:49, which I think is a time that will stand for a little while. It would take route improvements or significant grinding to improve it by more than a few seconds, I think.

I do want to say thank you to all of you who have been supporting me during this project. I have been getting a consistent 30+ viewers, often much more, which is better than my average for random/bad games. Many of you have been hanging out in my channel and encouraging me, or have given me encouragement outside of my chat, and I just want you to know that it makes a world of difference, especially when I am getting frustrated or discouraged. I appreciate your support so much.

Ghoul School is ass. Toad, Whitehat, and Jeffrosledger are seriously impressive for their times in that game. It is seriously a level of optimization that you can't really appreciate until you play the game and see why it is tough to get good at. Whitehat has an awesome tutorial on speedrun.com that you can check out. Learn it. You can learn it in 20 minutes. More people should run it. Really easy to pick up, really hard to get a great time.

Hung out with Laplacier this weekend. My streams have been averaging 40-70 viewers, and I am seriously blown away at how many people watch me work on these games, offer help, offer suggestions, leave me kind words of encouragement and congratulations. Even if I never get big enough for partner or whatever people work toward, I want you to know that I consider myself massively successful because of all of your support. It's more than an idiot nerd like me could ask for.
