+ + mackenzie kim doesn't like to think of her life as a sob story, despite the looks that people have given her when they find out about her living situation. mackenzie grew up in pittsburg, pennsylvania, to a single mother, who's partner at the time had cracked under the pressure of becoming a father and run off before mackenzie was even born. during mackenzie's early years, her family struggled financially. she grew up raised by her mother and grandmother, with her father completely out of the picture, nothing more than an unnamed figure in the back of her mind. it wasn't easy for mackenzie's mother, but mackenzie is eternally thankful for her mother and everything she's ever done for her. because of this, mackenzie believes that single mothers don't get enough credit for everything they do, and that her mother doesn't deserve any of the harsh words mackenzie has heard people whisper about. by the time mackenzie was old enough to start school, her mother had finally managed to over come their difficult financial status, even though it meant working two jobs and taking up every shift she was offered. but the mothers of the other children would continuously gossip about her mother, even when her mother was in earshot. at the time, mackenzie didn't realise what they were talking about, and she didn't realise that she was different from the rest of the people around her, but she she thinks back to it, she feels proud of her mother for being so strong.

+ + when mackenzie was twelve years old, her grandmother decided that she wanted to travel back to seoul, her own birthplace. both mackenzie and her mother grew up in america, and had never lived in south korea, and mackenzie had never so much as left the country she was born in before. originally, the trip was supposed to be a holiday, until little mackenzie was scouted for an entertainment company. mackenzie had every intention to turn it down, because by this point, she had begun to understand the struggles her mother faced on a daily basis for giving birth at a young age and out of wedlock. however, her mother felt like she hadn't been able to give her only daughter the opportunities that she deserved, and encouraged her daughter to take up the opportunity. mackenzie didn't think she'd get very far, because she'd never taken a dance lesson in her life, and the only vocal experience she had was during the choir she signed up for after school. however, somehow, the company saw potential in her for a future debut, and with training, they believed she could become a great performer. with proper vocal training mackenzie was able to upgrade to a lead vocalist, and due to her ability to pick up choreography quickly, she was repeatedly teamed up with the dancers, earning her the lead dancer position. mackenzie is thankful for everything her mother has ever done for her, and more than anything, she is grateful that she let her mother talk her into signing a contract with the entertainment company, because she would not be the performer she is today without her.

+ + if there is one word you can use to sum up mackenzie kim, it is 'mom'. despite being only eighteen, and one of the younger members of the group, mackenzie is basically that one mom friend. in fact, it's almost comical, to see how she always has spongebob bandaids in her pockets, and tissues up her sleeves, and a mini first aid kit in her bag. most people won't leave their house without a phone, but for mackenzie, the most important thing for her to have on her at all times is her first aid kit. mackenzie loves babying people, even if they're older than her, and she's basically taken the entire maknae line under her wing like a group of little ducklings. she can always be seen doing quick head counts of all the members, despite not being the leader, and it's no surprise that she's always looking out for her other members. mackenzie can be extremely selfless, to the point where she puts other people first, which can potentially be extreme, because she spends so much time looking after others that she forgets to look after herself. luckily for her, the leader is always on the look out for her, and quick to intervene before mackenzie's own health takes a turn for the worst. along with her motherly nature, mackenzie has a love for little kids of all ages. she never had a younger sibling growing up, living with only her mother and her grandmother for company, but more than anything, mackenzie has wanted a little brother or sister to fuss over. one day, she wants to have her own kids, but for now, she'll stick to smiling and making friends with the children at the daycare place around the corner from their dorm, and fussing over all the members of GODDESS that are younger than herself.

  + along with her motherly nature, mackenzie is also extremely kind and gentle. she has a very soothing aura, one that makes other's feel at ease in her presence, and makes them feel comfortable enough to come an talk to her when they have problems. while mackenzie isn't always the best problem solver, it makes people feel better to have a listening ear, something that mackenzie is more than happy to offer them whenever it's needed. she's extremely soft spoken, and happens to have a rather melodic voice (probably why she's one of the lead vocalists) that's soothing enough to relax people. being in her presence is always a stress reliever, the other members like to say, because she has a natural talent for calming people down, even though her methods for doing so usually involve talking about something else and taking their mind off it completely. she is always soft spoken and calm, and seems to have an endless patience, because no one has ever seen her blow her fuse. anger just doesn't seem to be an emotion in mackenzie's vocabulary, and it's probably just as well, because for someone as tiny as mackenzie is, she can be pretty terrifying when she loses her shit. you do not want to be anywhere near her when she gets angry, and all the people who's seen her at this state have learned this the hard way. mackenzie can count on one hand the number of people who've seen her lose her temper, and she intends to keep it that way, because she doesn't want to blow her fuse and lash out at her group mates. she is a very caring person, from the way that she's always looking out for other people instead of herself, constantly putting others first. she's an extremely gentle person, which can be seen through her smooth movements, which are easy to predict, and don't scare other people, because her actions are clear long before she even begins to lift a limb.

  + being an idol is not all fun and games, and this is a fact that mackenzie stands by. she knows that she had to work hard to prove that she was good enough to debut as an idol, having no training prior to her audition, and she knows that even though she's already debuted, she needs to continue working hard. mackenzie is the type of person to push herself well beyond her limits, trying to meet the unrealistically high expectations that she thinks everyone has of her. this makes her a bit hypocritical, because she's always the first person to make sure no one else is overworking themselves, while she often stays up until ungodly hours of the morning rerunning choreography or memorising song lyrics. mackenzie has this determination to prove herself, even though there's no reason for her to do so. it probably stems from the buried emotions that mackenzie feels about not growing up with a father figure, and knowing that her biological father walked away because he didn't want to have a child. deep down, mackenzie wants to show her unnamed father just how far she's come, even without him steeping foot into her life during her eighteen years of living. along with her hard working nature, mackenzie also tends to get stressed rather easily, usually about those around her. she's normally pretty good at dealing with her stress, and doesn't often let it accumulate in her system, finding ways to manage and relieve it. however, she tends to get extremely stressed when either she or one of her group mates is sick. mackenzie hates seeing other people sick, because she always feels useless for not being able to help or do anything about it. (she also doesn't like seeing other people sick because she's a sympathetic vomiter and crier. she's also a bit of a neat freak, and can't stand it when things are out of place. usually, she's in charge of most of the cleaning in the dorm, because to her, everything needs to be done a certain way, otherwise it bothers her. she likes it when all the beds are done with hospital corners (her roommates don't complain because she does their beds for them), and there is a specific way she likes all of the plates and the glasses and cutlery to be put away (the others have learnt to just leave the clean dishes out and let mackenzie fix everything for them). mackenzie doesn't really mind all the extra cleaning, because it helps her relax when she's stressed, and it also gets her out of having to do bathroom duty.

  + mackenzie is probably one of the most oblivious people to ever walk the planet. mackenzie is honestly so oblivious to the things that go on around her, and she's not very good at picking up on hints at all. even in movies, she never sees the foreshadowing or anything, because it doesn't register in her brain that it's hinting towards a major plot twist, so while some people have already figured out the plot twist, mackenzie is left in awe, wondering where the hell it came from, because she certainly did not see it coming. this can make mackenzie difficult to deal with, because she doesn't understand hints. she needs to be told things straight up, and you can't just try and imply things and hope she comes to a conclusion on her own, because she's hopeless. chances are she'll miss your implications entirely, or come to a completely wrong conclusion. in the long run, it's easier to just be straight up with mackenzie. it'll save you a lot of trouble. as well as this, mackenzie is not a confrontational person. she doesn't like picking fights, and she doesn't tolerate bullying under any circumstances. she tends to be very passive aggressive, in the sense that she keeps her thoughts and opinions on the people she doesn't like to herself, and instead goes out of her way to avoid them. she doesn't really like conflict, and she's more of a peacemaker anyway, usually the person trying to solve problems instead of starting them. she hates it when her group mates get into arguments, because she just wants everyone to live happily together, even though it's unrealistic and they're bound to get into arguments at some point, anyway. if people try and pick fights with mackenzie (not that it happens very often), they're always unsuccessful. mackenzie is the type to run away from conflict and confrontation - literally. she's not good with arguments. she rather live in her own little world where everyone gets along, that have to deal with mean and bitchy people who are trying to pick fights with her.

+ + given the circumstances that mackenzie grew up in, it's no surprise that she's extremely mature for her age. being raised out of wed lock, without a father in the picture, mackenzie was forced to grow up quickly and help her family as much as she could. she was never ungrateful for her mother and her grandmother, and she never threw tantrums whenever she couldn't have the same toys that all the other kids at school did. mackenzie has very strong opinions of single mothers, and believe they deserve a lot more credit than they get, because her own mother worked so hard to raise her, despite everyone trying to knock her back down, and questioning why she didn't just choose to have an abortion instead of raising the child on her own. because of this, mackenzie grew to be very independent from a young age. while she didn't really understand much about her families living or financial status when she was younger, she did understand that her mother needed to work as often, and that it was up to herself to learn how to do things by herself, so she wouldn't be an inconvenience to her mother. now that she's an idol, and she's slowly starting to earn money, she wants to pay her mother and her grandmother back for everything that they've done, and she wants to start with buying them a nice house in seoul so they can be closer to her.

  + they met when mark was too busy trying to think of lyrics for a song he was writing while he was walking down the hallway with earphones in, that he didn't watch where he was going. unfortunately, he walked almost straight into a table and when he tried to swerve at the last minute to avoid it, he stumbled and tripped over in the middle of the hallway and grazed his knee. he was glad for a second, that nobody had seen what had just happened, until he heard a giggle from behind him and went bright red for two reasons a) there was a cute girl standing in front of him and b) said cute girl had just seen him fall over and was giggling. lucky for mark, mackenzie is always prepared for everything, and immediately whipped out her first aid kit and was putting a bandaid on his knee before he could register it.

  + she thought he was a cute and clumsy guy, seeing as she basically just saw him fall over and graze his knee. despite all of that, she thought he was really cute, and from what she'd heard about him from fan-accounts, she figured that he was a good a person, and he didn't fail to bring a smile to her face. plus, he didn't push her away when she tried to help him despite not knowing her, even though it’s may have been because he was still stunned.
