The magick that this uses is forbidden in most cultures (that are aware of this element), and thus he kept it hidden he had control of this element for a long while. Calamity Falls (is that the name of the place?) is the latest stop in that journey, a journey that has cost him most of the people in his life (a couple by his own hands.)
