This year however, I really only focused on a handful of runs, compared to other years where I have worked on a lot. This has mostly been centered around one in particular, which I am getting very close to putting to bed.
 
 So without further ado, here are all the PBs I got this year:

-A run many years in the making, finally put together this route that allowed a several minute improvement. This is an extremely technical run, and without a doubt on the podium of best runs this year. Very proud of this one.

-Pokemon Crystal
+A very fun run, now my favourite way to play FR/LG as I find it more enjoyable than E4R2. The run itself definitely has more improvement and always will given the catching requirement has so much variance, and could definitely see myself going back at some stage, but not anytime soon. Run this for ASM as well, which was very fun too.

-In another endeavour to find a fun way to play the older gens, Dodrio Tower meets Gen 2. Did once again have fun with this, but sadly the lag Crystal makes it less desirable than it's cousin that features later in this list.

-First of the Alt Main runs this year. This one was...interesting, it took ages to get the first badge and after that nothing troubled me. Was a bit of a meme, might be one I have to improve in the future.

 Came back to this game briefly to improve the time with Sonic after my previous PB got beaten. Was one of my worse attempts that just had a crazy good Metal, so as always can see myself coming back and improving.

-The only super long PB for this year. One I definitely see myself improving further in the future, it's both really fun, and also the routing improvements I made are bigger than the actual time improvement to my PB this year. So a few more minutes to get off before I'm satisfied.

-I finally got to cross this game off my bucket list. Was the very first game I ever did a full game speedrun of, and took me over a decade to come back to it. This route was really really fun, and sadly got made obsolete by a much more boring route shortly after. But still I'm glad I found a way to run this that was enjoyable, even if for just a short time.
+The Stadium games getting released on Switch means I've got a great reason to return to all the categories throughout the series, as they all play considerably faster. This run was even better than my N64 PB as well in far far fewer attempts, so really really pleased with how this one played out. Definitely more Stadium in the future, but this category is off my list for now.

-After the glitchless Manipless category took over racing in 2021, this category got the limelight in 2022. And tbh it's an even better category. Also did this category as a marathon run, and it excels for that too. Definitely will return to this from time to time I'm sure.

+Sonic Origins was a disappointing first release, but Origins Plus was much, much better. Amy is actually surprisingly fun, and did a decent amount of work with her, with both this run, and my run at PAX. Definitely still improvement here, I already know of some better strats from having done another character later in the year...
-Back to Dodrio Tower, as mentioned Gold missing the lag makes this the preferable Gen 2 option for this category. Gotta go fast.

-Came back to this category here and despite thoughts it might be 'solved', I found more improvements than I thought I would. Managing to nab back the record here was a bit of a surprise, but a very welcome one. This run was very close to being an insane knockout, still very good.

+Similar to Round 1, booted up Round 2 to get a better time on the Switch. This run might've beaten my N64 time, but the run was worse, so this one is still on my list to improve.

-I had accidently gotten the any% record while doing Best Ending, so I quickly did a real run of just any% for something a bit more reputable. Still not as good a run as my Best Ending run, but I don't like this category as much.

 Thought I'd just quickly push out a Sonic run at a similar time to Amy, but ended up getting one much lower. Very fun game, happy I ended up pushing this to an 11.

+Had been cooking this since last year, has become maybe my most fun way to play the game. This is my favourite game of all time so it shouldn't come as a surprise, but I'm still shocked how much joy I still get out of playing this game to this day.

-After Platinum was so much fun, decided to give HG/SS a try. For a while I didn't think it would be fun at all due to the nature of the game, but I found some excellent strats that actually did make it quite enjoyable. Overall I still had more fun with Platinum, but this wasn't without it's charms.

+Well, this has been the big one. Put a massive amount of work into this run, reaching levels of play I had not at all before. Some of the identification and manip stuff I'm doing now would've seemed crazy to myself at the start of the year. Very close to what my goal time has been the whole time (Sub 3:30:00), will definitely get there next year.
-My first Alt Main in D/P and what a main. Was actually really interesting to route, and very challenging to run. Definitely still more Alt Mains in the future, love the ups and downs you have to ride on runs like these.

-This is the one that gave me the most satisfaction this year. A huge improvement to a main category, almost purely on the basis of simply being better. Routing improvements out the wazoo in 2022 are a very rare thing, but this is one of them. This run was quite decent, but I could see myself pulling this down even more just because of the joy I get out of it

 This was a super fun event that was organised in collaboration with AusSpeedruns and Five Star Games (who were effectively directed by SEGA) in order to promote Sonic Origins Plus. We put together a format and had two different teams compete in different events across the games - it was actually super fun. Probably actually had the most fun in the lead up, teaching Lacey and stylonide the Competition Mode was a key speedrun memory I won't forget.

+Would like to give a brief shoutout to the event itself - ASM 2023 was the most fun one yet by a long way, and quite possibly the best event I've ever been to. Truly a place where an honest speedrunner such as myself can belong.

+This might be the most fun marathon run I've ever done. We had a donation incentive for the co-op partner to be one of multiple people - none of whom knew how to play the game. So between having to run and explain the game, is the backdrop of having to teach my partner what to do, at the same time of the controller being swapped to someone else as well. Had great vibes too, would definitely recommend giving this one a watch.
