Tanya attended [[Bellingham High School (Washington)|Bellingham High School]] in [[Bellingham, Washington]].<ref name=fb-tanya /> She graduated in [[electrical engineering]] from [[University of Portland]] and completed her masters degree in [[computer science]] from [[University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign]].<ref name=linkedin-tanya /> Since 2003, Lattner has been an active contributor and member of [[LLVM]].<ref name=llvm-found /><ref name=apple-llvm-credits /> While an [[Undergraduate education#United States system|undergraduate]] student, she worked on LLVM and had a notable role in the project's early development.<ref name=bi-fem-eng />
