  → [ORIGINAL PERSONALITY] hyoyeon is the personification of sarcastic. she's the type of person you do not want to ask a stupid question or else you're gonna get her famous bitch face and a sharp sarcastic quip back. she is fluent in sarcasm and sometimes cannot be assed to answer your questions or even bother to give you a reaction. sometimes this can come off as rude but in actual fact underneath she loves her members a lot and will stand up for them for them in a snap. she is very loyal to her members and will not accept any sort of bullying towards her members from anyone.
 
   → hyoyeon, in one word, can be described as sarcastic. she is probably the most sarcastic person you will ever meet, because 99% of what comes out of her mouth is unfiltered and sarcastic. she is extremely blunt, and most of the time, she doesn't bother to filter her words, voicing whatever statement is on her mind (this of course creates a lot more work for the versus editors, as they have to beep out half of what she says due to her extensive use of swear words). you do not want to ask her a stupid question, because you will receive a stupid answer in return, and a roll of the eyes from hyoyeon, before she turns away and does whatever she was doing before. naturally, she doesn't mean to come off so rude, but sarcasm is her defence mechanism. she uses it to cover up her insecurities and whatnot, determined not to show weakness. however, whenever she gets stressed out, all self restraint she has goes completely out the window, and she doesn't even attempt to filter what she says, so it isn't uncommon for her to have a long rant that consists mostly of swear words whenever she's pissed off or stressed out. she tends to bottle up her emotions a lot, and hides what she's really feeling behind her excessive use of sarcasm and swear words, and usually likes to ignore all of her problems until they go away. her group mates have come to gain an immunity towards her sarcasm, to the point where they just completely ignore it, as they're so used to hyoyeon and her sarcastic ways. after living and promoting with her for so long, they don't get bothered by her lack of a filter, even though other people get put off by her nature and think she's rude, when in reality she doesn't mean to be, it just her first initial instinct to everything is sarcasm. hyoyeon is also known to state the obvious a lot, mostly in situations that do not call for it, and usually just ends up pissing off everyone else. she can always be relied upon to tell it how it is, even if it is the last think you want to hear at the time. she doesn't sugar coat the truth and will just give the bluntest answer possible. however, despite this, she is actually a really good problem solver, and is able to think on her feet quickly. she is always prepared for a massive bombshell to be dropped on mars (because this is mnet, and hyoyeon won't take any chances when mars is at risk of disbanding), and will be quick to put her problem solving skills to work if need be. she will do whatever it takes to make sure mars wins versus, and losing isn't an option. as well as this, hyoyeon is actually pretty good at reading people as well, as she picks up on the small changes in the way people act (particularly her group mates), and even though she doesn't pry, she will always let the others know that she's there for them in whatever indirect form she can think of. she is extremely loyal to mars, and will always stand up for her group mates. you insult a member of mars while hyoyeon is around and you better start running, because she doesn't stand for any sort of bullying at all, especially towards the members of mars. she is extremely against all forms of bullying, and will always stand up for anyone in need, no matter what.

   → [ORIGINAL BACKGROUND] growing up with an older brother and parents who are too busy to spend any time with them because of their jobs, hyoyeon has spent most of her time bickering with her older brother about anything and everything. from what to have for dinner or who gets to watch what on the tv. this was the only sort of entertainment she had as their parents were too busy traveling around the world or saving someone's life. this then brought hyoyeon and her brother closer and he would always take care of her, but wouldn't ever show his affection as he just brushes it off with sarcasm, so this then influenced hyoyeon to become witty as well.
 
   → h was born ahn hyoyeon in gangnam district, seoul, south korea, to a rather well off family, and was their second (and last) child. however, unlike what people might assume, growing up in a rich family wasn't exactly as great as people thought it was. the earliest memory hyoyeon has is of their full time nanny, taking both her an her younger brother out to the local markets. her parents never had anytime for either of their children, as her father was a neurosurgeon, and worked long hours earning money for his family. on top of this, her mother travelled a lot for her job as a flight stewardess, and was rarely ever home. this left hyoyeon and her older brother, kyuhyun, in the constant care of their nanny, who was responsible for looking after the pair. growing up, hyoyeon relied on her brother, and the pair were extremely close, as they were basically the only constant family each other had. however, it often didn't see, this way because they would bicker over anything and everything, getting into full-blown arguments over something as small as who got the tv remote, leaving their nanny to be the peace maker. however, barely ten minutes later would the pair go crawling back to each other, their fight long forgotten. when hyoyeon started school, she was the sort of person who didn't make friends easily, especially once she got to high school. by that point, almost everyone knew about her sharp tongue, and most people were too scared to approach her, despite the fact that hyoyeon never truly meant any harm, and would've actually preferred it had someone approached her, rather than whisper about her behind her back. her sarcastic nature began when she was in primary school, when the other kids began to pry about why her parents were never around. hyoyeon hates to admit it, but growing up with parents who were too busy to spend time with her really hurt, and she's upset over the fact that she hasn't really built up a stable relationship with either of them. she hated admitting this to the other kids, and instead tried to brush it off and pretend she was okay. sarcasm was her main defence mechanism, as she'd often used it on her brother during their bickering, and it was the only way she knew she could hide her emotions behind. it wasn't until after high school when she decided she wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. she didn't really have a main idea on what she wanted to do, but she'd always been interested in music and singing, since she'd been learning to play the piano since she was six years old. at the time, she'd questioned her abilities, and didn't really think she'd stand a big chance at getting accepted into one of the big three, so instead she started looking for smaller companies to audition at. she'd always been a fan of BLOCK B, so when she found out HUNUS ENT. were holding auditions, she decided to audition there, and somehow made it through the trainee period and debuted with mars as one of the lead vocalists.
