It's a windy late afternoon. Ahead of you is a dusty building labeled "The Institution - Now Hiring!" You stand with your job application at the front door, north of you. |
|
go north |
|
You enter a large, circular room that resembles a church. The draft enters through the window behind you, chilling the room. You see a door to the north labeled "New Applicants" and a door to the east labeled "Employees Only." |
|
go east |
|
You enter a room, but it is too dark to traverse. |
|
(go west, back to the church-room) |
|
go north |
|
There is a long hallway extending north. At the end of the hallway is an open door and a dim light. |
|
go north |
|
You close the door behind you and turn back around to see a well-dressed man with no face standing in the middle of the room behind a desk. The only light in the room comes from the man's face, glowing. A record player sits next to you. |
|
play record |
|
A dry crackle is heard, and the voice of a child of about 2-3 years old is heard from the record. "Thank you for your interest in The Insitushon." The child stops to giggle. "Please place the applicashun on the desk in feront of yoU~" The record fizzles out. |
|
give application |
|
- | There is no response from the recording.
+ | There is no response from the recording. You look down and realize you forgot to sign part of the form. You look back up and see the man holding a pen forwards. The man remains perfectly still.
|
take pen |
|
You take the pen from the man. His hand stays in position. |
|
sign application |
|
You sign the application. The record then comes to life. "Thank you. Your applicashun has been considered and you may nOW L~" A crackle is heard and the record stops. The room falls silent except for the sound of the wind against the door behind you. |
|
go south |
|
You turn around and leave the room. The afternoon sun has fallen and a cloudy night can be seen outside. A light blanket of snow covers the outdoors, and some has been blown into the hallway. Your shadow is cast in front of you by the man's face. |
|
go south |
|
You reach the door at the end of the hallway. Your shadow is, strangely, just as prominent as it was in the room. Oddly, the door is now locked. |
|
go north |
|
You turn to go north to see the man standing directly behind you, blocking your path. His hand is extended, dangling a key from his fingers. |
|
take key |
|
You take the key. |
|
go south |
|
You open the door to enter the large, circular room again. Snow has blown in through the windows, chilling the floor. To the north is the hallway, now blocked by the man. To the east is the room labeled "Employees Only." |
|
go east |
|
You go east, closing the door behind you. Suddenly the room is illuminated as you see the man, once again, behind you. The light from his face illuminates the room. Disemboweled pigs and chickens are seen hanging from the roof, and people are sitting on chairs, slumped over conveyors. It is a meatpacking factory. There is a sign to the north of the room, but you cannot read it in the dark. There is also a stairway to the northeast of the room. The winter air chills your bones. |
|
go east (IT'S TOO FLIPPING DARK or something, you can't go east for some reason) |
|
go north |
|
You walk towards the sign. As you walk, you notice that all of the seats are filled by slumped-over workers, except a wooden stool. The man appears behind you, and the sign becomes visible. The bitter winter air is unbearable. |
|
go east |
|
You try to go east towards the stairwell, but stumble over something in the dark and decide against it. |
|
go south |
|
The man is blocking your path. |
|
examine sign |
|
The sign reads, "Congratulations. Your application has been accepted." A metallic sound is heard behind you. |
|
turn around? I dunno, something like that |
|
The man is holding out a knife. He remains motionless. |
|
MULTILINEAR ENDING #1 |
|
take knife |
|
You take the knife. The cold metal chills your hand, and you suddenly grow weak. You collapse on the floor, breathing heavily. The snowy air blows relentlessly into the room. Slowly, some of the workers sit up. Their eyes are misplaced and gashed open, as if someone had tried to gouge them out. Their faces are indistinguishable from those of the pigs and chickens hanging from the roof. Losing consciousness, snow fills the room. |
|
You feel the knife leave your hand, and a sharp pain in your chin. The child's giggling echoes in your mind as the man carves your face off, from the bottom up, and places it over his own. |
|
The last sound you hear is the empty stool creaking as the final worker pulls it out, sits in it, and slumps over the conveyors of the machinery. |
|
MULTILINEAR ENDING #2 |
|
go east |
|
Running towards the stairs, you stumble and fall over something in the dark. Frantically, you get up and look back. The man has not moved, but the workers have. They're now sitting straight up, and their faces are pointed towards random directions in the room. Their eyes are gashed, some gouged out, and many are indistinguishable from the disemboweled animals hanging from the ceiling. |
|
climb stairs |
|
You climb the stairs onto a balcony several stories above the ground. The man stands behind you, blocking your path. |
|
jump |
|
You jump off the balcony, breaking your neck as you hit the ground. Weeks later, a police patrol is sent looking for your whereabouts. At the entrance, he finds a building, a sign that says "Positions Filled," and a well-dressed man on a wooden stool. His face is yours, messily taped to his glowing head. |
|
The policeman laughs a childish laugh.
