Pokemon White 2 Any% - FAQ

3
This is a speedrun by the way
4

5
Q: What are you playing on, is it an emulator?
6
A: Nintendo DS
7

8
Q: What's your PB?
9-
A: 3:22:13 [WR]
9+
A: 3:10:12
10
11-
Q: What is Any% Manipless?
11+
Q: What is your goal?
12-
A: Beating the game (entering the Hall of Fame) using no RNG manipulation.
12+
A: 3:09
13
14
Q: What is Any%?
15-
A: Not any that are useful in a speedrun.
15+
A: Beating the game by any means.
16

17
Q: Are there glitches in this game?
18
A: Not any that are useful in a speedrun. This is a glitchless speedrun by default.
19

20-
Q: Why did you choose the boy over the girl? Does it save time?
20+
21-
A: Very slightly, just to not move to the right to choose the girl.
21+
22

23-
Q: Why the Tepig/Drilbur route?
23+
Q: Does it matter whether you choose boy or girl?
24-
A: It's by far the best.
24+
A: Nope, so I do whatever I feel like in the moment.
25
26-
Q: What are the minimum stats of Tepig? Drilbur?
26+
Q: Why are you doing this Tepig + Drilbur route?
27-
A: I just want 12+ Atk at Lv 5 (x/14+/all) for Tepig, it doesn't end up doing many of the fights.
27+
A: Tepig is the best until getting to Drilbur. Excadrill is by far the best pokemon to beat the rest of the game with.
28-
Drilbur though, you cannot run a -Atk nature, you cannot run a -Spe and less than ~15 IVs, and you really shouldn't run one with absolutely terrible physical bulk too unless it's made up for with very good Speed, because of Charles and Undella Rival. I take any level of Drilbur possible in Relic Passage, which ranges from 16-19. It only appears in dust clouds, which has a chance of generating in any tile in a fixed area around you every 128 steps, has a 40% chance of being a wild encounter, and then an 80% chance of that encounter being a Drilbur, so each dust cloud is 32%. Spamming repels and biking is the only way to get dust clouds to appear fastest in manipless. Yes, it is as scuffed as it sounds.

29
Q: What else do you use/catch?
30
A: I catch a Pidove and Psyduck.
31-
A: I catch a flyer (Pidove/Zubat) and a surfer (Psyduck/Azurill/Audino).
31+
- Pidove gets Fly.
32
- Psyduck gets Surf and Strength.
33-
Only 3 HMs are needed for the speedrun, Surf, Strength, and Fly. Psyduck and Azurill are only in Flocessy Ranch, so if neither are found, I look for an Audino outside of Reversal Mountain and Master Ball it. If I don't find a Pidove early, I catch a Zubat in Castelia Sewers.
33+
34
Q: How do you know that you're getting x? How do you know that x is not gonna happen?
35-
Q: Where can you save time over PB?
35+
A: It's all part of the RNG Manip. I know what will happen as long as I do movement correctly.
36-
A: Couple of statics, one poke optional on the Drayden split, and a death on Iris.
36+
37
Q: What are Tepig and Drilburs's stats?
38
A: Tepig is Naughty nature. IVs are 27/30/31/30/16/25.
39
Drilbur is Adamant nature. IVs are 31/31/31/22/31/31.
40

41
Q: Why is your movement so weird?
42
A: It's because I'm manipulating RNG to get what I want.
43

44
Q: Why are you resetting so early?
45
A: Because I messed up RNG.
46

47
Q: Couldn't you have just taken the death and fought x again?
48
A: No.
49
50
Q: Where can you save time?
51
A: Major timesaves are hard to come by in my PB now that I got good crucial fights (ie Elesa, Rood, Clay, Marlon, Marshal), but here are the main areas for improvement:
52
Cheren + Roxie + Drilbur - (1 breakout) earlygame was pretty bad and I should be ahead every run. I didn't even hold manip past Ranch.
53
Elesa + Clay - the potential timesave is only from 1 static, low roll Emolga, Watchog Hypnosis, and a heal on Charles. Also a menuing error.
54
Skyla - Missed Swoobat range (so she healed)
55
Drayden - Rev Mt. 4 turns, Healed after Rival, extra heal in triple
56
Frigate 2 - A rather slow Double
57
(NB: I did Lucky Egg unequip, so some splits are worse in quality but were not slow per se because of the timesave from LE Unequip)
58
Colress - 2 Rock Slide misses
59
E4 - Healed before Iris (2/3 or 1 death Marshal, no Will-o-Wisp Shauntal)
60
61
You might hear me talking about some strats that are not always used in the run, at least not for every level of player. These have been implemented within the last year, made by minnow.
62
63
Grotto candy (Integral part of the route now. Always done)
64
Humilau skip (I pretty much always do this, with Pidove deposit going for the ~70% Marshal win, unless pace allows)
65
Lucky Egg unequip (Cope play after Frigate 2)
66
Trainer skip (As of now, not routed, to be implemented. Might reserve even going for this option depending on confidence in runs)
67
68
There is a lot to explain for each of these. I'll just link minnow's pastebins and you can read about them in depth.
