  ↪︎ to be fair, huang jieqiong had high expectations placed upon her from the moment she was born. she was born in the local hospital in her hometown in shanghai, as the fourth child and only daughter to a pair of busy parents. her father was a high paid neurosurgeon, and her mother was a lawyer, and they both worked long hours, which left them with little time to raise their four children. from a young age, jieqiong remembers being passed around from baby sitter to baby sitter, because neither of her parents had the time to actually raise her. they barely gave any of their children any attention, unless it was for any less than satisfactory grades. from a young age, jieqiong was encouraged to strive for the best, and was expected to get insanely good scores for every bit of school work she did. instead of being allowed to go outside and play with all of her chinese friends, she had to sit inside and study. when her father was transferred for his job to south korea when she was nine, jieqiong had hoped her parents would ease up a bit on their strict expectations. unfortunately, this wasn't the case, and jieqiong found herself constantly being reprimanded for her less than satisfactory grade in her korean language class, because her knowledge of the language was nowhere near fluent. growing up, she was always a lot closer to her brothers, who took on the role of looking after her, while her parents were too busy to spare her a glance. this only led to them being insanely over protective over her. al three of her brothers knew exactly how she was feeling, as they had a lot of pressure put on them to get into good universities to study engineering degrees. however, it seems as if jieqiong's future was already predetermined for her, as her parents insisted she pursue a career in the medical field, and jieqiong was not allowed to protest. instead, she was to spend all her free time studying, trying to get the marks to please her family, only to be completely brushed off by her parents, unless her scores weren't up to their standard. this led to a bad relationship with her parents, because she never had the chance to become close with them and feel loved, and instead relied on her brothers for comfort.

+ ↪︎ huang jieqiong, is a literal representation of why the rest of the school hate freshmen. she's the youngest of the group, but she's quite easily managed to land herself in a third year course, with the help of her borderline genius iq, and her all round knowledge that landed her a scholarship to the school in the first place. jieqiong is, for a lack of filter, is a smart arse. honestly, she's a borderline genius, and always knows what she's talking about. she's smarter than the other kids her age, which is clear to see once you realise that majority of her classes are advanced placement. she doesn't often get along with a lot of people her own age, because they believe she's too stuck up, and she believes they aren't on her level of knowledge. to jieqiong, knowledge and wisdom are two things that she values above everything else. however, despite being extremely smart, she doesn't always tend to think things through, and often makes decisions based on a whim, that she often comes to regret later. she's gifted in her book smarts, but street smarts... not so much. she could start spewing mathematic formulas off the top of her head, but she's none the wiser to any sort of street lingo or slang that goes around the school, and most statements with hidden meanings fly straight over her head. she could be labelled as a reckless person, which contradicts what a lot of people know about her, since she's a very organised person, yet she's also one of the most indecisive person you will ever meet. she's known for holding up the canteen lunch line, simply trying to chose between chicken and beef, until the canteen ladies get annoyed and make the decision for her. he can never come to a decision on anything, and hates anything permanent that can't be undone. along with being very organised, she likes to pride herself for being ready for anything that is thrown at her, and to always expect the unexpected. yet despite adopting this mindset, jieqiong is honestly not prepared for anything, and is usually the first person to lose her shit if things don't go her way. she likes to plan things out, and doesn't like it when things don't go the way she planned, even though she claims she's prepared for anything.
  ↪︎ jieqiong is also the sort of person who will conform to what everyone else is doing just to fit in. she just wants to be taken seriously, but a lot of people write her off as she's only a freshman. never mind the fact that she's probably smarter than most of the seniors in the school. she prefers to hang around with the older students at school, as she believes she fits in better with them. not to mention, she knows most of them anyway, because all three of her brothers attended the school before her, so she had a reputation to uphold long before she even stepped foot into that school. she's not exactly an independent person, which probably comes from hanging around with people who are older than her, when she often never had to make decisions for herself. she's more of a follower than she is a leader, and tends to crumble under pressure. she gets along better with people who are older than her, once she kind find people who will willingly put up with her. jieqiong isn't exactly a bad person to be around, but most older students don't want to be seen hanging around a freshman, and it's something that pisses jieqiong off to know end, and makes her wish she was older so people wouldn't judge her based on her age. quite frankly, jieqiong is just a smol girl who wants nothing more than to fit in at school and get good grades. however, with her young age comes the inevitable actions of being treated like a baby by most of her peers, and especially her brothers. growing up the youngest of four children, jieqiong has always been babied, and her brothers are extremely protective over her. if she wants to go out to a friends house, her brothers will run full background checks. if jieqiong is so much as a minute late to return home, her phone will be spammed with hundreds of missed notifications from them, demanding to know where she is.
  ↪︎ jieqiong can also be a bit of a... well, a teachers pet. she's not afraid to suck up to her teachers, regardless of what other students think of her. she sees it as a win-win situation - she just has to be extra nice to her teachers, and then they'll be more lenient towards her and she won't get in trouble as much for forgetting her homework or talking in class. she has all of the hated characteristics of freshmen, with her eager eyes and willingness to learn, and her knack for correcting her teachers and reminding them about homework, which has done nothing but earn her a target on her back. she might as well carry around a sign that says "hit me" all day long, because in all honesty, that is a target that's been hung over her head, visible to everyone EXCEPT jieqiong. jieqiong is extremely naive, and it has never occurred to her that people have begun to hate her because of her eager and happy nature, because she's oblivious as they come when it comes to negative emotions. jieqiong prefers to live her life in a happy-go-lucky way, and assumes that everyone else does the same. she is extremely optimistic, and tends to look on the bright side all the time. she never gets upset for more than five minutes, because after a few minutes of pouting and/or frowning, she's forgotten what she was upset over in the first place.

  ↪︎ chemistry - to be honest, the concept of chemistry just makes so much sense to jieqiong, so it is no surprise that she's topping the class. she is able to grasp the content pretty easily, and finds it easy to remember exactly what she needs to do (that, and she can recite the first 72 elements of the periodic table)

  ↪︎ physics - honestly, jieqiong kind of hates herself for picking physics in the first place, becuase she honestly hates it so much. she's still doing relatively well in the class, passing through with 60s-70s, but she honestly finds it so hard to actually grasp what she's supposed to be doing and remember all the formulas (and she tends to zone out during physics a lot too. whoops.)

   ◦ these two are quite an odd pair when they're put together, but jieqiong gets along with her relatively well due to their small age gap. there is only a year's difference between them, so naturally, jieqiong finds it easier to get along with her. they're also relatively new to the school, with jieqiong being a freshman and HEARTS DON'T BREAK AROUND HERE being a transfer student. i just see them having a really cute friendship where she's protective over jieqiong, but doesn't really outrightly show it because of her facade.
 
 WHICH SLOT DOES SHE DISLIKE:
  ↪︎ BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY
   ◦ it's not that jieqiong hates the girl, per say, it's more that she kind of intimidated by her. she's the class president, and she practically runs the school in everything but popularity (but she's still ranked pretty high on the social ladder). BIG GIRL'S DON'T CRY is a natural born leader, and she can also be pretty terrifying, and she never fails to scare jieqiong into going along with whatever she wants, because the younger is too scared to dare go against her.
 
 DATING EXPERIENCE:
  ↪︎ jieqiong's only a freshman, so she hasn't done much dating, and she's only actually had two serious boyfriends, the first by the name of JUNG MINHYUNG and the second by the name of KIM WOOJIN. both of the relationships didn't last very long, and jieqiong ended them after a matter of months. she didn't get very far with either of them, and never went past kissing them.
 
 HOW DID THEY END UP FALLING ASLEEP IN CLASS:
  ↪︎ she didn't mean to fall asleep, honestly. she's usually the last person to even think about doing something that might get her into trouble. but as she's taking a lot of advanced classes despite being a freshman, and has a lot of pressure on her to get into a good university and follow in her brothers' footsteps in terms of academics, she'd gotten into a bit of a habit of sacrificing sleep for studying, and had spent the night before staying up until four going through a chapter from her physics textbook. she's not the sort of person who does that sort of thing very often, only when she's under a lot of stress, and by the time luoesian history came around that day, she was dead on her feet, and had dozed off within the first fifteen minutes of the class.

  ↪︎ jung hoseok, for a lack of a better term, is an actual sunshine. he has the type of smile that can light up a room and make girls swoon, despite not paying any attention to it. he is a gentleman, unlike some of his friends, and can be extremely charming when he wants to be. he's always cracking jokes and cheering other people up, because all he wants in life is to see other people smile. however, despite all of this, he has a deep inferiority complex, unknown to most of the people around him, as he is able to hide it extremely well. on the outside, all people see is the boy who rivals the sun, known for his kindness and generosity. on the inside... well, he's questioning his own worth, and probably needs to hear the complements he gives everyone else the most.

   ◦ she hadn't really been paying much attention to him at first, mostly because she was freaking out over the fact that they'd transported themselves back in time. however, his smile did catch her attention, and while she knew next to nothing about him, she had to admit that he was very attractive, and seeing him smile made her feel physically calmer.

   ◦ he thought a lot of her mannerisms were odd, since naturally, he wasn't used to the way people from her time era acted (even though he was none the wiser to the fact that they'd actually time travelled). however, he did find her interesting, because it became quite clear very quickly that her and her friends were not like everyone else in the kingdom, and that intrigued him to no end.
 
 RELATIONSHIP STATUS:

  ↪︎ to be honest, at first, jieqiong doesn't really care for him at all. she's just concerned about the fact that they've somehow travelled back in time, and she just wants to wake up and find out the whole thing was just a bad dream, because she is not mentally prepared to deal with something like this, and her sanity is falling to pieces. she doesn't acknowledge any of his advances on her, mostly because they're a lot more subtle, and he's not straight up throwing himself at her and trying to sleep with her like jimin.
  ↪︎ however, after she's actually begun to adjust to the fact that she's in the past, she's kind of passive aggressive towards him, mostly due to the fact that the 1830s is very misogynistic, and growing up in the modern world, this is something that jieqiong is not used to, nor does she agree with it. quite frankly, whenever he does something, like try and make decisions for her, or bring around to balls as his date and unknowingly treats her like an object, she just gets very pissed off, which confuses him to no end because he wasn't trying to be rude, but he just doesn't know any better because of the way he was brought up. however, since he's such a nice person and he is genuinely curious about her and would like to know her better, he kind of tries to give her space, because she's not like any of the other girls in the kingdom, which intrigues him to no end.
  ↪︎ jieqiong hates being rude to him, because he's honestly such a nice person, and he's not as bad as some of the other boys. she's also observed him on multiple occasions, firing compliments to other workers, but jieqiong notices that he never seems to take compliments himself. not to mention, she's slowly becoming attached, because her smart ass nature has almost gotten her killed on multiple occasions, all of which he's come to her rescue by convincing officials to let him handle it instead. she won't bother denying that she's attracted to him, because he's really begun to grow on her after all the time she's spent with him. she is also very much aware that he's into her, and she knows that he's trying to court her, and she knows that people get married quite young in the era she's trapped in. despite being the slightest bit scared, she also knows that she could see a relationship with him. meanwhile, he really just likes her, even he's kind of confused at her odd ways of doing things, because she doesn't seem to conform to the society that he grew up.
 
 DOES SHE GO BACK OR STAY:
  ↪︎ honestly, jieqiong would have an extremely difficult deciding what she'd do, mostly because there are aspects that she likes of both the past and the present, and she hates the fact that she can't have both. she'd probably take the longest time trying to decide what she'd do, changing her mind constantly (much to hoseok's devastation), before finally deciding to stay behind. sure, she's not exactly fond of all the misogynist views, but she really likes the stress-free life she's given. the expectations aren't set as high, and she doesn't really have all the massive competition of trying to get into the medical industry in the past, as several people have already begun coming to her when they're sick because she knows what she's talking about (mostly due to the fact that she's more educated than everyone in the town, barring the other girls). she's also grown quite fond of hoseok, and is honestly pretty thankful for everything that he's done for her in the past. deep down she doesn't want to leave him, because while they might not actually be engaged yet, she can honestly see herself in a relationship with him further down the line.

  ↪︎ jieqiong freaking out upon realising that they've time travelled and she just completely looses it and the other girls aren't sure what to do because they've never really seen her lose her shit before because she's always calm and collected, and they have to try and calm her down.
  ↪︎ jieqiong, being the smart ass she is, keeps correcting other people who live in the village on facts that aren't meant to be discovered until years later, and the other girls, (HEARTS DON'T BREAK AROUND HERE, probably), have to cover her mouth and drag her away while trying to play off to the villagers as if she's crazy or something.
  ↪︎ someone trying to like drug her or something, but all the others jump in to protect her, because she brings out their mother instincts and they're all determined to protect her
  ↪︎ jieqiong somehow managing to almost get herself killed on a daily basis, whether it's because she pisses off the wrong people, or because she accidentally knocks over the support beam of a market and almost gets crushed or something
  ↪︎ jieqiong getting really homesick and missing her brother, and wondering if they know that she's gone or if her existence has just been erased, and the others try to comfort her, and jieqiong feels really grateful, because all of her life her brothers have been the only people she can rely on, but no she has six new friends who will always be there for her

  ↪︎ towards the end, he tries proposing to her and asking her to marry him, because that's what they usually do in the past. however, jieqiong turns him down, simply because she thinks she's too young to get married just yet, and she's not sure whether they're going to stay in the past forever. however, upon noticing the way his face falls, she quickly brings up the concept of promise rings instead, and manages to get him to agree to that instead, and while he doesn't really seem to understand where she got the idea from, he goes along with it (it's worth it when he starts smiling again)
  ↪︎ hoseok getting sick or something, and people keep trying to recommend him all of these herbal drinks, but jieqiong straight up intercepts everything and takes it into her own hands because she knows that none of it will work, and instead takes care of him. (after all, she was planning on becoming a medical student)
  ↪︎ he kisses her or something like that just at the time when one of the other slots walk in and they all just give him the look that reads "stay away from our precious little baby do not corrupt her", which kind of makes him feel a bit terrified
