| + | Red Classic Race to the Top faq |
| ||
| What are you trying to do?
| - | Beat Pokemon Red as fast as possible, without using glitches. |
| + | Set as fast a time as possible in Red Glitchless (classic) in 3 days. |
| ||
| Why? | |
| - | I want a break from the glitched runs for a while. |
| + | Because that's the goal of this competition. |
| The top 4 people from last weekend and this weekend will then compete for the ultimate prize next weekend.
| - | What is the WR? |
| + | |
| - | 1:45:05 RTA by hwangbro |
| + | Will you be one of those people? |
| I sure hope so. | |
| ||
| - | 1:48:27 RTA |
| + | How many people are competing? |
| Around 30 last time I checked.
| - | Where can you save time? |
| + | |
| - | Potential timesave on the first 3 splits, I had a bad moon rocket fight, the Fly split wasn't very good, I got double Hypnosis from Agatha, and I had to Potion for Champ. |
| + | What time is needed to advance? |
| In the first weekend, a mid 1:58 was needed. I believe a similar time will be needed this weekend
| - | What is your goal? |
| + | |
| - | 1:47 at least, would be nice to be top 10 again but 1:46 is hard. |
| + | Where can I watch other runners? |
| the event will (sometimes) be restreamed at twitch.tv/redraceTV with exciting commentary rather than my boring silence.
| - | What pokemon are used in this run? |
| + | |
| - | Squirtle is used until Brock, and is later taught surf and strength |
| + | |
| - | Nidoran-m is used as the main battler after Brock, as he destroys the rest of the game |
| + | Overall, I have a 1:58:05 RTA (Which I also achieved in just 3 days) |
| - | Pidgey/Spearow is used as a fly slave |
| + | I haven't set a PB in the competition yet, but if I do it will likely be the splits I'm running against. |
| - | Paras is used as a dig/cut slave |
| + | |
| What Pokemon are used in this run?
| Squirtle is used until Brock, and is later taught surf and strength (and possibly dig).
| - | Yes. I manipulate a Nidoran with really good stats (13/15/15/14/15), and hopefully a Pidgey too. |
| + | Nidoran-m is used as the main battler after Brock, as he destroys the rest of the game. |
| - | I also manipulate no encounters for a large chunk of mt. moon, as well as trash cans. |
| + | Pidgey/Spearow is used as a fly friend. |
| Paras/Oddish/Dux is used as a cut friend (and also dig if paras).
| ||
| Does this run use any RNG manipulation?
| No. The classic ruleset forbids RNG manipulation (specifically gard resets), as well as Bike Shop Instant Text, and using a PokeDoll on the Marowak in Pokemon tower.
| ||
| What's with the weird movement on route 22 then? That looks like RNG manipulation to me.
| That's called DSUM manipulation, and while it is technically a form of RNG manipulation, it is still allowed. Basically, encounters in this game are on a cycle (imagine the wheel of fortune wheel), so by attempting to generate an encounter a specific amount of time after the previous encounter, I greatly increase the odds of encountering a Nidoran-m.
| ||
| Why is x not a glitch, it looks like a glitch to me?
| Because the community says so. |
