Balder (Sciencegar version)
2
3
When the United Human-Kaijin Alliance came under attack by the Century Kings and their Decade Empire, their only hope for survival was the rapid development of new advanced mecha systems to counter the Dairiders of the Decades. The humans concentrating on mass-producing armies of mechs, cheap, functional, with the emphasis on mobility for survival. The Kaijin, numbering only a few thousand, instead concentrated on making custom units for those most suited to piloting, building them larger, with much more powerful weaponry and incredible performance.

The Balder was on of the final Kaijin super robots to be produced, being custom-built for Rio Mei Long, a young Dopant and holder of the Pilot Memory. It was expected that if she had lived, she and the Balder might have been able to turn back the tide of the war and save the Epsilon system from being overrun. Instead, she was killed by the turncoat Chalice, and the Kaijin colony on Epsilon 3 wiped out, its dutiful defender, the Durandal, limping back to Earth for a refit, the Balder sitting untouched in its hangar.

Balder Systems:
8
Viscumalbum: An adjustable-range beam cannon fed directly from the Photon Reactor. Capable of hitting targets thousands of kilometers away in space, with 10km range in Atmosphere. Rapid-fire mode for close combat is highly effective, but can drain capacitors if overused.
9
10
Gungir: Modelling on a common Grungi weapon, this spear is laced with Orichalum for exceptional durability, it can take incredible amounts of abuse and still retain its killing point. An additional coating of Photon Repellant allows it to withstand even the energised attacks of Decade mecha. The lance is best used when coupled with the units speed to maximise the pressure on contact.
11
12
Matricaria: Based on human tech, these transforming weapons are based on the smaller Gasher rifles used on LINER units. Stored as potent shortswords, they can transform with a flick of the wrist to beam rifles well-suited for mid-range combat.
13
14
Blade Kickers: An attempt at propoganda and demoralising the enemy, many late-generation Kaijin mechs have kicking attacks meant to best those of Decade mecha. The Balders legs can transform into what are essentially giant spears, and the main thruster can be angle to deliver maximum force with them.
15
16
Plasma Missiles: Versatile missiles suitable for area denial and focused barrages on hard targets at all ranges. While very useful, the supply for a battle is limited, although can be replenished on the Durandal.
17
18
Bird Mode: For getting to targets quickly, the Balder transforms to a four-winged bird mode, with the Blade Kickers forming the lower and larger wings. While the Viscumalbum and Gungir are stored flush with the hull in this mode, the Matricaria swing free for unrestricted fire, and the enhanced speed make the Blade Wingers incredibly deadly.
19
20
Hyper Jammer: Specially installed by the famous young engineer, the Shrike Orphenoch, as a gift to Rio, this system makes it highly difficult to target the Balder with conventional sensors.
21
22
Inactive Systems:
23
Ragnorok: A projected 'ultimate attack' of the mech, for dealing with high-level Dairiders or even the mechs of the Century Kings potentially. This was meant to be performed by the Gungir being inserted into the Viscumalbum, rammed into an target, and the cannon fired at full power, allowing it to pierce any armor. It was quickly realised that even the Gungirs construction wouldn't survive such stress more than 3 or 4 times, and the Viscumalbum would also suffer irreperable damage as well. Unless a system can be developed to internally repair the cannon and the lance each time this attack is used, this attack must remain sealed.
24
25
Draupnir: With the Pilot Memory allowing her to basically fly several mechs at once, Rio reccomended adding a system to the Balder that let her do just that. The cockpit systems allow the pilot to direct several additional mechs, smaller versions which maintain the Matricarias, Plasma Missiles and Bird Mode. However, the Draupnir prototypes were left behind in the rush to evacuate Epsilon 3, and without a pilot for the mecha, were never replaced. The full specifications for constructing them are maintained in the Balders memory banks, but it would require a very advanced construction method to put together the complex machines in any reasonable amoutn of time.
