General Tips |
----------------- |
|
Always carry a bunch of sonic detonators. Craft them instead of buying them. These are used for mining ore nodes (the rocks with colored minerals sticking out of them) which yield, well, minerals. A single detonator costs 4 crystite and can yield over 100 minerals. That's efficiency. |
|
Use glider pads. They're pretty fast means of transportation, sometimes even faster than using an LGV. |

About Repulser Amplifiers: They push the melding back a few dozen feet. When this happens, either a large number of melded creatures will appear for you to slaughter or you'll get a large quantity of azurite ore nodes that yield over 100 azurite each. If you're in the area, just pop them and see what comes out. Thumping in this area is also usually pretty efficient, as ore concentration is higher. Make sure you get your thumper out before the melding comes back though. |
|
LGVs: An LGV, or Light Ground Vehicle, is currently the only vehicle available to players. It resembles a futuristic bike. Founders get one for free, while regular players will eventually have to craft theirs. Meanwhile, you can get single-use bikes from crashed LGV events. These can only be called once and will disappear after a while if you're not using them. You can also get a temporary bike from Terromoto for the race event. Although it is intended to be used just for the mission, you can use it to go wherever you want. Just don't be sat on it when Terromoto arcfolds it back. |

--- FAQ --- |
>What class should I pick? |
As with any MMO, this is entirely dependent on your personal preferences, but currently there are some balance issues in the game. It is widely accepted that Assault and Biotech are currently the strongest classes. |
- Assaults have a very good AoE primary weapon that clears groups of small mobs in 1-3 shots, as well as some good AoE burst skills and movement skills. |
- Biotechs have AoE heals and damage. Also poison. They're pretty handy to have in a group. |
- Dreadnaughts have theoretically the highest single-target DPS primary weapon, assuming you can just stand next to your target and not be getting killed. They also have a shield on their primary weapon and skills designed for area control such as an area knock back or a bubble shield that prevents anything from getting in or out of it. |
- Engineers have turrets, shields and some nifty utility gadgets like a mobile resupply station that grants ammo and health spawns or a jump pad that makes everyone jump stupid high (this is useful for creating quick escape routes, quickly climbing tall cliffs that you might not be able to jet to, etc.) (also, annoying people by planting it under them while they're crafting/afking). |
- Recons are currently considered to be the weakest class. This is true if you're fighting in close-mid quarters, but they're the only class that can kill a juggernaut before it even tries to shoot back. The Night Hawk T2 frame is also the only frame that currently has a stealth mechanism. They also have some decent explosive skills to help clear large groups. |
|
>I just started the game, wat do? |
Follow the instructions on screen. You should complete the full quest line before you actually start playing the game. Think of it as a tutorial, that's basically what it is and it answers 90% of the questions I see asked in zone chat every single fucking day. |
|
>Fuck that I don't need a tutorial I just want to kill people |
Press K and queue for PvP. |
|
>Is [Quest Name] bugged? |
Probably, yes. If something looks bugged, ask in zone chat to make sure. Sometimes things fix themselves when you relog. |
|
>Can I have some minerals/crystite/guns to get started? |
There is no trading function in the game as of yet. Even if there was, I think you should know the answer to this already. |
|
>How can I craft gear? |
You can only start crafting equipment when you get to T2. Any item you unlock that isn't Accord (except for power cores, those can't be crafted at all) can then be crafted in the Molecular Printer. |
|
>Do materials affect crafting? |
Only when you're crafting equipment. Different materials have different properties which affect the stats of crafted equipment, as stated on their tooltips. For everything else, you should use the lowest-grade mineral you can. An Advanced MPU made from purple-grade materials will be the exact same as one made from gray-grade materials. |
|
>Why does crafting take so long? |
Crafting gear and consumables takes 20 seconds. That's nothing. Bigger things take longer because Red5 need to make money off the game and this is how they're monetizing crafts - You can currently pay 1 red bean per hour to make your craft instant. You really don't need to though. |
|
>Help I put down my thumper and bald guys with handblades and purple flying fuckers are after me |
You're too close to the melding. Thumping close to the melding is known as "meld thumping" and is currently the closest thing to a "PvE end-game" there is. It's hard and gets harder. It's supposed to be hard. Just move further away from that big purple shit and you should be relatively safer. |
|
>What is the melding? |
If you had paid any attention at all to class you should know this by now. Anyway, the melding is the purple "wall" you see at the edge of the map. It's not impenetrable, you CAN go in there, but it's not a good idea as it will deal damage over time. Sometimes you can see some ore nodes inside the melding close to the edge which you can throw a detonator at and quickly run over to get the materials relatively safely. |
|
>How do I get XP? |
PvP is generally regarded as the fastest way of getting XP, but there are PvE alternatives that are just as viable. Thumping, either solo or with a group, will net a good amount of XP, even more so if done near the melding. Solo events, such as drops pods and crashed thumpers will give you a bit of XP, but group events such as melding tornadoes and chosen incursions will give you several thousand XP. The fastest way of getting XP in PvE is joining a group for various events and thumping, as you gain a bit of XP for everything they kill as well. |
|
>How do I get crystite? |
You can get crystite from pretty much any activity you choose to do. Event and PvP rewards often include a crystite value, mobs drop crystite along with other minerals, etc. |
The fastest way to get a lot of crystite would be to thump. Thumping gives you a bunch of minerals which you can then process into crystite. Better minerals presumably give you more crystite, but don't go spending all your purple goodies on this, as it's generally not worth trading a bit of extra crystite for better crafted items. |
|
--- Thumping --- |
- | When you find a mineral vein, it will tell you a few things: What mineral you found, what quality the mineral is, and how much of it there is. The first to are static for that vein, but the mineral percentage changes depending on where you place your thumper, so scan around the area to look for the highest yield deposit before calling your thumper.
+ |
Thumping is basically Firefalls take on mining. It's a great way to earn XP and materials for crafting. |
- | When you've found the place you want to thump, it's time to call it down. Equip your thumper to your calldown slot, setup turrets if you're an engineer, then call that shit down right on top of the vein, but for god sake don't stand under it when it lands. The border says "Do not cross" for a reason.
+ |
>Sounds good. How do I do it? |
You're going to need 2 things. A scan hammer and a thumper, both of which you'll need to craft if you didn't or couldn't do the thumping mission. It's best to start out with the stock thumper, as it's the easiest one to do, and the cheapest one to replace if you fuck up. |
Got your hammer and thumper ready? Good, now it's time to look for an ore vein. To do this, equip the scan hammer in your calldown slot, and start hammering away on the ground. You'll get 1 of 4 readouts: |
|
Gray: Nothing here, try somewhere else |
- | If the thumper was destroyed, it's lost for good. You'll have to make a new one to resume thumping. If it wasn't, feel free to call it back down whenever you are ready for it.
+ |
Yellow: There's another active thumper in the area. Try somewhere else, or wait till they're done. |
Green: Jackpot! This area contains minerals. |
|
When you find a mineral vein, it will tell you a few things: What mineral you found, what quality the mineral is, and its concentration. The first two are static for that vein, but the mineral percentage changes depending on where you place your thumper, so scan around the area to look for the highest yield deposit before calling your thumper. |
|
When you've found the place you want to thump, it's time to call it down. Equip your thumper to your calldown slot, setup turrets if you're an engineer, then call that shit down right on top of the vein, but for god's sake don't stand under it when it lands. The border says "Do not cross" for a reason. |
The first thing you'll note when your thumper lands is that it has its own display hovering near it. Pay very close attention to this, as it'll show you how much health it has left, and how close it is to full capacity. |
The second thing you'll note is that it's filling very fucking slowly. The reason for this is that thumping is a risk/reward business. The longer the thumper is active, the faster it gathers minerals. At 50% capacity, it will really start ramping up in speed, as there'll be about a minute left till it's full. |
The third thing you'll notice is that everything fucking hates thumpers. Creatures will spawn around it constantly, and tougher creatures will spawn as it fills. One you have to look out for in particular, no matter where you thump, is the small spider creatures that looks like they're on fire. These little things are basically bombs. They will walk over to your thumper and detonate themselves, dealing massive damage to it, and you if you are nearby when they blow. Killing them should be your top priority. |
|
That's all there is to it. When the thumper is full, or it's getting too low on health, go near it and press E to send it back. Keep in mind that it takes 5 seconds for it to pack up and leave, where it will still be vulnerable to attack. |
If the thumper was destroyed, it's lost for good. You'll have to make a new one to resume thumping. If it wasn't, feel free to call it back down whenever you are ready for it. Make sure you wait a couple seconds and clear out any mobs in the vicinity before you call another thumper. Sometimes the mobs spawn with a little delay and you'll end up starting a fresh thumper with a rageclaw on your ass. |
|
>Improved and advanced thumpers are really expensive. Is it really worth the risk? |
It is, as they're not as expensive as you might think. Crashed thumper events will reward you with Crystalline Crystite Engines and Polymer Drillbit Casings, so if you do them whenever you see them, paying for replacement thumpers shouldn't ever become a problem for you. |
|
>So what about meld thumping? |
Meld thumping is basically the same thing, except it's done near the melding. Even tougher creatures will spawn, but they grant more XP per kill. Keep in mind that the fire spiders that spawn at the melding will have a purple glow, rather than a fiery one.
