- | Pokemon White 2 Challenge Mode - FAQ
+ | Pokemon Black Any% - FAQ
|
This is a speedrun by the way |
|
Q: What are you playing on, is it an emulator? |
A: Nintendo DS |
|
Q: What's your PB? |
- | A: 3:13:21 (WR)
+ | A: 3:11:23
|
Q: What's your Goal? |
- | A: 3:12
+ | A: 3:10 at least. Mid-3:10 = my run's caliber is on par with KRAM and minnow's, which would be sweet.
|
- | Q: What is Challenge Mode?
+ |
- | A: In B2W2 there are keys that are unlocked for beating the game. One of them is the Challenge Key, which unlocks Challenge Mode, a difficulty increase setting. The implementation of the difficulty scaling only directly buffs Gym Leaders/E4/Champ (one additional Pokemon each, more items, higher IVs, moves), along with a level buff to all trainers. However, the trainers stats aren't directly buffed. What this means is that even if opponent's levels appear to be buffed, it is only actually buffed in damage output if the level changed significantly enough. But it still scales up EXP gain for beating high level pokemon.
+ | A: One glitch. There is a rock with no texture in Brycen's gym, and we use that to skip an intended trainer. It's more of a bug than a glitch, really.
|
- | Q: So what are the differences between Challenge Mode and Any% (Normal Mode)?
+ | Q: Why do you name yourself and the pokemon you catch one character? Why not Snivy?
- | A: Some fights get harder, others get easier. Cheren, Burgh, Elesa, Skyla, and Marlon are all harder than in Any%. However, many trainers are easier due to improved ranges, notably Vibrava, Gligar, and Golbat. You can expect times to be ~2:30-3:00 slower than Any% times due to extra pokes and more EXP and leveling up throughout the run.
+ | A: Because it's faster to name them one character for text purposes. Snivy is not nicknamed because the amount of time spent displaying extra characters is not as great as the time spent initially naming the Snivy.
|
Q: Does it matter whether you choose boy or girl? |
- | A: Not any that are useful in a speedrun. This is a glitchless speedrun by default.
+ | A: Nope, but Hilda is much better than Herbert imo
|
- | Q: Why do you name yourself and the pokemon you catch one character? Why not Tepig?
+ | Q: Why are you doing this Snivy + Lillipup route?
- | A: Because it's faster to name them one character for text purposes. Tepig is not nicknamed because the amount of time spent displaying extra characters is not as great as the time spent initially naming the Tepig.
+ | A: Lillipup has the edge on other routes like Tepig and Sawk. Return spam is quite good, and it gets adequate coverage in Crunch and Reversal. One of the sillier timesaves it has over Emboar is that it's weight class is lighter, and thus has a faster animation everytime it is sent out in battle.
|
Q: What else do you use/catch? |
- | A: Nope, so I do whatever I feel like in the moment.
+ | A: I catch a Pidove/Woobat for Fly. Snivy gets Cut. No other HMs are necessary to beat the game.
|
- | Q: Why are you doing this Tepig + Drilbur route?
+ |
- | A: Tepig is the best until getting to Drilbur. Excadrill is by far the best pokemon to beat the rest of the game with.
+ |
|
Q: What are Snivy and Lillipup's stats? |
- | A: I catch a Pidove and Psyduck.
+ | A: Snivy: Naughty 20/31/18/5/28/9
- | - Pidove gets Fly.
+ | Lillipup: Adamant 30/31/31/24/31/31
- | - Psyduck gets Surf and Strength.
+ |
Q: Why is your movement weird? |
A: It's because I'm manipulating RNG to get what I want. |
|
Q: Where can you save time? |
- | Q: What are Tepig and Drilburs's stats?
+ | A: Skyla (via Plasma Skip), Dragonspiral Tower, Desert Resort, Elite Four.
- | A: Tepig is Rash nature. IVs are 30/31/30/30/25/30.
+ |
- | Drilbur is Adamant nature. IVs are 31/31/31/12/31/31.
+ | Q: What is "Plasma Skip"?
A: Glad you asked. Plasma Skip is strat that's been theorized for the better part of 2 years now, and has finally been realized for RTA by ABTwisty and co. He made a seed searcher that can find when and where phenomena (you might know these as dust clouds in caves, shaking grass in grass, bubbles in water) will spawn. The fun part about phenomena is that if one spawns in front of a trainer, that trainer's vision will reduced to go as far as the phenomena. We can abuse this to skip many otherwise mandatory trainers in Chargestone Cave by doing a save and quit RNG manipulation. Phenomena do not go away unless you fight a trainer, pick up an item, or get an encounter, and there can only be one spawned at a time, so the fastest option ends up being to skip every other trainer. We now end up skipping 4 trainers (Grunts 1, 3, 5, and 7) to save approximately 90 seconds.
