  1. Sigh.
  2.
  3. Wait, was it too loud? It definitely was too loud. Her head bobbing stopped; Miki raised her eyes. Oh no.
  4.
  5. “What’s wrong?”
  6.
  7. “Nothing.” He tried to avoid her gaze, and stared at the wall. Damn. This wall has seen A LOT. Both of him and of her. To be honest, they shouldn’t be laying on his bed right now. It breaks school rules, probably. Wonder if the next inhabitant will have any idea about all the shit they’ve done here…
  8.
  9. “Hisao!”
  10.
  11. He groaned. What a dumb thing to do. Sheepishly, he looked back at her.
  12.
  13. “What?”
  14.
  15. “Something wrong?”
  16.
  17. Miki got up a bit, and now towered above him. Her bare chest was extremely distracting – he couldn’t keep his eyes on her face. She let out a pleased chuckle. “See, it’s easy to make you feel better!” – she said, nudging even closer to his face. “Baby, what’s wrong? Was I not good enough?”
  18.
  19. Instead of replying, Hisao reached with his hand, and grabbed her boob. Miki feigned surprise for a bit, but quickly changed her expression to pure ecstasy, as he started fondling her.
  20.
  21. “No, you were perfect. As always.” Hisao tried to smile, but it came off really insincere. He cringed at his own attempt. People would kill to be in the same bed with Miki, but he was making a total ass of himself today. Especially considering how much time they have left to spend together... Oh no, here it comes again. A massive lump in the throat. Miki’s expression changed from joy to worry in a matter of moments.
  22.
  23. “Hisao, what the hell? Are… are you crying?” – she tried to laugh, but couldn’t hide the concern in her voice.
  24.
  25. And yes, he did. Tears appeared in corners of his eyes, face got all red. Dammit. Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Miki reached forward, hugging him.
  26.
  27. “Now, now, a bad blowjob is no reason to cry” – she whispered in his ear. “I’ll improve, I swear.”
  28.
  29. Hisao chuckled through tears. “Stop with this self-deprecating shit. You’re great, and you know it. It’s not about you at all.”
  30.
  31. Miki got up. “Then whom?”
  32.
  33. Hisao bit his tongue. In fact, it was all about her.
  34.
  35. Final exams were looming close. Then, graduation. All in a matter of month, which will fly by in a moments. And then what? Hisao had some prospects – he discussed it with Mutou more than once. Nothing too special, but he was still somewhat proud of himself. But Miki… He once again looked at her – she was now lying next to him, her hair spread all over his chest. Damn, she has nice hair. He fumbled it a bit in his hand, but then shook his head. This talk had to happen at some point – what better time than now?
  36.
  37. “Miki, have you thought about what you’re going to do after graduation?” – he asked bluntly.
  38.
  39. “Go back to Okinawa” – she answered immediately. Hisao took a deep breath – he was expecting something like this, but to actually hear it from her… It still hurt.
  40.
  41. “Okay.” – he smiled. “And then what?”
  42.
  43. “Uhh, probably chill for a bit. Until pops gets angry, that is. Then, most likely work with him in his workshop. Or maybe not.” Miki rolled her eyes. “Depends on the mood. Maybe my uncle could find me a gig at his place?”
  44.
  45. Hisao got interested. Miki never talked much about her family, and he hasn’t heard about her uncle yet.
  46.
  47. “Oh, your uncle owns a business? What’s that?”
  48.
  49. “A strip club.” – Miki answered nonchalantly. She waited for couple of seconds for a shocked expression to form on his face, and burst out laughing. “Okay, I lied. He’s a librarian. But I still could probably be his assistant or something!”
  50.
  51. Hisao smiled. “You never struck me as a bookworm much.”
  52.
  53. “Looks can be deceiving, mister Nakai.” – Miki replied, poking him on the chest. “Isn’t it the whole purpose of this story?”
  54.
  55. Hisao looked perplexed. “What story?”
  56.
  57. “Our story!” – Miki laughed, bopping him on the nose. “Two unlikely lovers from the different parts of the country, find each other at the school for disabled kids… I smell an award-winning novel here!”
  58.
  59. “Right…” Hisao couldn’t bring himself to ask the next question. He knew he had to do it. Now. Another deep breath. He looked at her once again, she smiled back.
  60.
  61. “Miki, we’ve been dating for what, three months already?” – he finally squeezed out.
  62.
  63. “Time flies, doesn’t it?” Miki yawned. “What, you want to celebrate an anniversary? Never was a fan of this shtick.”
  64.
  65. Hisao smiled. “No. Just putting things into perspective. I’ve been thinking… about us.”
  66.
  67. Miki scowled. “You aren’t proposing, are you?”
  68.
  69. “No!” Hisao got re in the face. “At least, not yet. See, okay, in a month you go back to Okinawa. I go home and prepare for entry exams, then, hopefully, go to university in Tokyo. We get separated,” – he snapped his fingers – “just like that. Think about it. Has those three months not accounted for anything for you?”
  70.
  71. It was hard to decipher Miki’s expression. Her face got pretty wooden, she closed her eyes, seemingly lost in thought. Hisao felt better – he let out something that was boiling inside of him for a couple weeks. But for her it was probably a ton of bricks. Finally, she opened her eyes.
  72.
  73. “I suppose it’s your first time breaking up, isn’t it?”
  74.
  75. Cold. He’s never felt so cold inside. Come to think of it, what did he expect? Why burden her with being the one to say these words? It was him who was thinking about it for all those days, not her. Now he felt like the biggest asshole on the planet. So, what would he do now. Myriad of thoughts swirled through his brain at once, and only thing he could think of was a crappy joke.
  76.
  77. “I suppose it’s not the first one for you? Walk me through the ropes a bit.”
  78.
  79. Instead of responding, Miki got up. “I gotta go” – she quickly said, reaching for her clothes.
  80.
  81. “Wait!” – Hisao grabbed her by the waist. She resisted for a bit – admittedly, weakly. Finally, she sat on the edge of the bed, still looking away.
  82.
  83. “Baby, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to guilt you…”
  84.
  85. “Well, it looked exactly like it!” – she cut him off. “Do I always have to be the one to make decisions in this relationship? Be a man once!”
  86.
  87. “Well, that’s what I was trying to do!” Miki finally turned back to him, and he tried to conceive a guilty expression on his face. “I’m not sure about our future and all that. After all, I love you.”
  88.
  89. Corners of Miki’s mouth rose up a bit. “Say what?”
  90.
  91. “I love you. Love you, love you, love you. And I don’t want to lose you. Don’t want to get separated by miles and miles, don’t want to only hear your voice on the phone. Don’t want to only see you on the screen.” Hisao felt his heart rushing. “You’ve been such a big part of my life. God dammit, I tried to write a poem to you!”
  92.
  93. Miki couldn’t help but chuckle. “You what?”
  94.
  95. “Yep. I spent half a night on it, and it turned out terrible. Damn, this was probably the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever done.” He looked her straight into eyes. “After this tirade, of course.”
  96.
  97. “Oh, Nakai, you helpless romantic.” Miki plunged back on the bed. “What am I supposed to do, smuggle you to Okinawa in my suitcase?”
  98. Hisao brightened up. “No. Instead, have you thought about universities? We could apply to the same one.”
  99.
  100. Miki waved her stump. “Forget it. I definitely wouldn’t be able to get high enough marks for a chargeless spot, and my family doesn’t have money to pay for education.”
  101.
  102. They both sighed, almost in unison.
  103.
  104. “Man, this adult stuff sucks.” Hisao mumbled.
  105.
  106. They laid in a bed for some time, silent. Hisao contemplated. Was he too attached to a momentary high school romance? Well, yes. He’s known Miki for half a year tops. No mutual acquaintances, except for Yamaku students – well, figures. Sex – a lot of good, raunchy sex. Pretty much only thing they’ve shared. Even today, what were they doing before this conversation? Miki was laying in his bed with his dick in her mouth. What is Miki’s favorite band? He could’ve sworn he knew. But they discussed it like once, and he didn’t know its name before she told him. Miki is right – it’s a first relationship for him. He doesn’t know what is what. Come to think about it…
  107.
  108. “Hey, Miki.”
  109.
  110. She turned her head. “Yes?”
  111.
  112. “Your first boyfriend. What was he like?”
  113.
  114. Miki was stupefied. “That’s not something you ask a girl, you know!”
  115.
  116. “Come on now.” Hisao smiled clumsily. “We already deducted that I’m an ass. I’m just trying to learn about you, that’s all.”
  117.
  118. Miki seemingly softened a bit. “Okay. It was a long time ago. I just turned fifteen. Still had both of these.” – she waved her intact arm in front of his face. Hisao smirked.
  119.
  120. “And he was?..”
  121.
  122. “I don’t know, around twenty two?”
  123.
  124. “Jeeesus, Miki.” Hisao wasn’t prepared for that. “Isn’t it, like, against the law?”
  125.
  126. “Probably? You see, we didn’t care.” Miki smiled. “He was a biker; I was a young and impressionable girl. We had mutual friends, and one long summer night, when everybody went to sleep, we ended up being alone for quite some time. He was funny, and had some kickass tattoos. Never was too pushy, gave me rides on his bike, it was a fun month.”
  127.
  128. “So what happened? Why such a short relationship?”
  129.
  130. Miki contemplated for a bit.
  131.
  132. “He was a part of a gang, they were traveling across japan. One day I called him, and he didn’t pick up – probably changed a number. Learned later that they took off at night, never heard from him again.” Miki got slightly red in the face. “Cried in my pillow for two weeks. Happy?”
  133.
  134. “I guess.” Hisao threw his arm around her shoulder, and she nudged closer to him. Sweet, sweet silence. Just for a little longer. Well, this was a revelation. No wonder Miki never mentioned it before. She doesn’t look ashamed, though. And not that she should – it’s all on this guy. What a scumbag. Hisao pinched Miki on the cheek.
  135.
  136. “Hey!” – she replied, laughing.
  137.
  138. “We haven’t broke up officially yet, right?”
  139.
  140. “No, you dumbass!”
  141.
  142. “Just making sure” – Hisao said with a content smile. “Don’t know how I would spend the rest of the Yamaku days without your juicy ass.”
  143.
  144. “You’d require a looooot of napkins.” – Miki grimaced.
  145.
  146. “That’s true.” Hisao rolled on his side, placing his other hand on Miki’s stomach. With his index finger, he found her abs. What a body. Every man’s dream. He kissed Miki on the forehead, before his hand went further south. Hotter, hotter…
  147.
  148. “Hey, aren’t we having an emotional moment over here?” – Miki laughed, prying his hand away. Aww.
  149.
  150. “Sure. Therapy and all, traumatic events from our childhood. How could I forget?” – Hisao returned the hand to his side. “For real, though. No plans for extra education at all? Even back home?”
  151.
  152. Miki grimaced. “Naw. I’m no good at science, and arts are basically no-no with only one arm.” Hisao opened his mouth, but she quickly stopped him. “Don’t tell me about Tezuka. I’m not in her league at all.”
  153.
  154. “What about sports?”
  155.
  156. Miki looked at the ceiling. “Ehh… A lot of commitment. I competed in track team competitions for fun, but come on, even in school for cripples I was always number two.” She giggled. “Losing to a girl with no legs. Imagine a bigger cross on a sports career!”
  157.
  158. Hisao groaned. There was no getting to this girl.
  159.
  160. “So, R&R for some time, then spend the rest of the days in your dad’s workshop. With painful memories of losing your arm there?”
  161.
  162. “Sure! And sex. Lots and lots of it. I’ll be fucking and sucking until my skin turns white.”
  163.
  164. Miki laughed out loud at Hisao’s fuming face.
  165.
  166. “You’re so funny when you’re jealous!” – she squeezed through laughter. “Oh my god, what a grimace. You should see yourself in the mirror.”
  167.
  168. “Excuse me for not wanting to imagine my girlfriend being spitroasted and such.” – he replied, trying to calm himself.
  169.
  170. “Jeez, relax, Othello. Don’t choke me this instant!”
  171.
  172. “I won’t. I promised to get you through exams first.”
  173.
  174. “Good to know. Oh, brother…” – she let out a sigh, rolling around his small bed. “We really should be studying.”
  175.
  176. Hisao was somewhat aghast. “Funny to hear it from you.”
  177.
  178. “What can I say – even if I have no future, your sorry ass should really get high scores if you want a shot at those Tokyo universities. What are your plans, anyway?”
  179.
  180. Hisao smiled sheepishly. “I know where I will apply. Don’t want to tell yet.”
  181.
  182. “Why?” – Miki looked surprised.
  183.
  184. “Got my reasons. Mainly, superstitions.”
  185.
  186. “All right, then. Keep your secrets.” – Miki smiled once again. “Or you can screw it all, and travel to Okinawa with me. We got universities too, you know. Just not as prestigious as Tokyo ones.”
  187.
  188. Hisao didn’t fully understand what she was coming for at first. “Yeah, I guess. Wait, is this an invitation?”
  189.
  190. Miki shrugged. “I guess? We have a spare room in the house, and our village is not that far from a city. You should be able to find a university that would kill for your application.”
  191.
  192. Is she joking or not?
  193.
  194. “I… I haven’t thought about it, really. Mutou wouldn’t be happy, most likely…”
  195.
  196. “Who cares what he thinks!” – Miki loudly proclaimed. “Man’s old and miserable, he haven’t had a joyous day in his life.”
  197.
  198. “Hey, he’s a good teacher!” – Hisao flared up. “He actually speaks highly of your learning ability.
  199.
  200. “Really?”
  201.
  202. “Totally” – Hisao lied to her face.
  203.
  204. “Well, how about that…” Miki smirked. “So, okay, the plan is as follows. After we both ace our exams and have the night of wildest sex Yamaku has ever seen afterwards, we both go home for couple of weeks. Have some time to ourselves, prepare our ancestors for the fact that we bound our lives to another cripple. You send your application to whatever university you picked – doesn’t matter, they’re all fawning over you. Then, you gather your belongings, and fly straight back to me. I meet you in the airports, and suck you off right there” – Hisao opened his mouth, but Miki silenced him one again – “don’t interrupt me, so I suck you off right in the airport, because by god I missed you, and you missed me, so we have the wildest sex that airport has ever seen, also. Then, pops drives us home, and after a family dinner, guess what?”
  205.
  206. “Hot and raunchy sex again?”
  207.
  208. “Bingo! You’re learning, young Skywalker!” – Miki grinned.
  209.
  210. “Geez, that’s a lot of sex” – Hisao whistled.
  211.
  212. “Well, obviously. So, then… What’s next, Hisao?”
  213.
  214. “I… I don’t know yet. I’d have to figure out what I’ll be majoring in.”
  215.
  216. “Bo-oring! I was thinking about what famous beaches we could go to and have…”
  217.
  218. “And have sex there, I get it!”
  219.
  220. Hisao smile to himself, as Miki continued rambling. Is he ready to tie his life to this strange, funny, endearing girl? Someone he hasn’t known for that long? Eighteen years is an awfully early age to make decisions like that. He stared at the ceiling. What a world. Maybe Miki’s plan is not that insane. Or maybe nothing of it comes to fruition. Maybe they spend their lives together, maybe they break up under the stress of exams. Maybes, so many maybes.
  221.
  222. Sigh.
