  1. Mom woke me up, and the first thing I smelled when I got to the kitchen was burned eggs and bacon. Well, at least she tried; she never does much for me anyway.
  2.
  3. It was nearly ten o'clock on a Saturday morning, and I knew today was going to be good.
  4.
  5. Colton, Isabelle, Alison, Will, and I were all going to the club tonight to hang and have some fun, and I couldn't wait.
  6.
  7. "Danielle, breakfast is done," Mom said quietly, but loud enough so I could hear.
  8.
  9. She had no idea what I was doing tonight. All she knew was that I was going to see my friends to have dinner with them.
  10.
  11. Wrong.
  12.
  13. Man, you'd think that after forty-three years of experience, she'd know not to trust someone like me. But again, she is my mom.
  14.
  15. She has depression, so I can't be too hard on her. She really doesn't speak or anything.
  16.
  17. I replied, "Okay, I'll be there in a few minutes, I need to change real quick and I'll be there."
  18.
  19. I opened my closet, digging through my clothes to find something suitable for the mall.
  20.
  21. You see, living in New York City, you have people judging you by what you wear, because all of the famous people apparently live in the Big Apple and paparazzis are everywhere.
  22.
  23. I'd hate to be caught on camera looking destitute because of a poor clothing choice.
  24.
  25. After what seemed like forever, I finally decided on a black crop top, blue jeans, and some white converse. I guess that's okay for the mall.
  26.
  27. I mean, Isabelle will be there with me to help me decide on a dress and she'll make me look better because everyone knows she is prettier and she richer than I'll ever be.
  28.
  29. I needed to get a sexy dress to wear for Will tonight; I needed to keep him entertained so he won't dump me, because that would be devastating.
  30.
  31. Will is my boyfriend. He's hot. Really hot. He hunts and fishes, like country boys, and he treats me like a princess⎯his princess.
  32.
  33. Out of all of the guys I have dated or hooked up with, I've got to say, he would probably be my favorite, though we haven't hooked up. Yet.
  34.
  35. I skipped breakfast.
  36.
  37. When mom asked why I wasn't eating, I frustratedly told her, "I'm not hungry, and you burned the eggs and bacon anyways! Isabelle is picking me up and we're going shopping at the mall."
  38.
  39. I could see the depressed tears in her eyes as she said, "Okay, sweetheart. I'm so sorry I ruined breakfast, I promise I'll try better next time."
  40.
  41. Now I feel bad but man, she just lets me walk all over her. Honestly, it's getting kind of sad and boring. I mean, she didn't seem to mind at all despite the vulnerability I saw when she apologized.
  42.
  43. Who am I kidding? She couldn't care less if I jumped off a bridge and killed myself.
  44.
  45. Sometimes I wish my mom would think about me a little more and actually question what I tell her I'm doing. Like, be a real mom, not a sad, depressed, walking zombie.
  46.
  47. I've gotten to where I don't like getting in trouble like I used to all of the time. I get to walk all over people without any punishment.
  48.
  49. Sometimes, it would be nice to be punished for my actions. For example, I would never have had twenty boyfriends and never would've hooked up with a single one.
  50.
  51. I'd probably hate it that way and I'd have no fun, but it's better than having a mother who couldn't care less about you.
  52.
  53. I texted Isabelle to come pick me up so we could go to the mall, and went out on the balcony while I waited on her to arrive.
  54.
  55. Isabelle is already sixteen, so she has her own license. I only have my permit so I have to wait another three months before I can get mine. I wish my birthday was in July instead of October, but oh well. Life isn't ever fair.
  56.
  57. Isabelle's parents are rich and she gets and owns everything she wants.
  58.
  59. She wanted a Ferrari, so they bought one for her. It was her birthday gift but still, do you know how much stuff they get her?
  60.
  61. Her very expensive candy apple red Ferrari is this year's model and everything.
  62.
  63. She has hundreds of thousands of dollars in her name though, so I guess it doesn't really matter, but this is all because her parents owning hotels and real estate businesses all over New York.
  64.
  65. She has never had to lift a finger for anything in life, unlike me, the complete opposite. She has maids who clean her bedroom, make her bed, do her laundry, cook dinner, and etcetera.
  66.
  67. She has never had to work hard to earn anything because it is given to her.
  68.
  69. She's spoiled brat, but she is my best friend and I love her to death.
  70.
  71. There is a positive side, though. Isabelle is a kind, sweet, loving friend who is there for you when you need her or when she wants to be.
  72.
  73. I really do appreciate that, even though I envy her sometimes.
  74.
  75. She was there for me when my parents divorced and my dad left my mom to be with a much younger woman when I was nine.
  76.
  77. Ever since my parents divorced, it's like Mom has been depressed. She never does get out much often anymore and just stays locked up in her room sitting in bed all day. Sometimes a few days.
  78.
  79. Now I feel bad for pointing out that she burnt breakfast again.
  80.
  81. Thinking about her makes me depressed.
  82.
  83. That's why I get out and do crazy things, to forget about it all. To escape it all. Those bad memories. My dad abused us both. Whether it was punching, hitting, kicking, or just emotional abuse.
  84.
  85. I remember being five years old and coming in from playing outside, only to find that my dad was was drunk and angry.
  86.
  87. He had thrown a wine glass at Mom and it shattered, causing her to get cut and have tiny pieces of glass stuck in her arms, legs, face, you name it.
  88.
  89. I started bawling my eyes out when he shouted at me and yelled, "Damn it Danielle, get the hell out of here before I throw something at you too!"
  90.
  91. I ran out of the house crying and as petrified as an five year old can be, to the old bridge over the lake, my "safe place."
  92.
  93. I'd stay there until he had left and it was safe to come back home. My father never loved me but that's okay. Because now I have Will, and he does.
  94.
  95. I finally saw Isabelle pulling up in front of my apartment, pulling me out of my thoughts.
  96.
  97. "Hey Girl! How's it going?" she asked as soon as I got down there.
  98.
  99. "I'm doing good I guess. How about you?" I said in a more negative tone than normal.
  100.
  101. "Well someone's not that happy this morning, what's going on? Is it a bad hair day or something?"
  102.
  103. "No, I just feel bad. I was angry towards my mom when she took the time to cook me breakfast and she burned it. I could see the pain in her eyes after I said that and she apologized," I exclaimed, upset.
  104.
  105. "Oh, I see. It's okay, maybe apologize when you get home or something. Since you mentioned you haven't had breakfast, let's go to Chick-fi-la and get some chicken minis and frosted coffee," she suggested.
  106.
  107. "Sounds good to me," I said. "But after that, we're shopping for me asexy dress to wear for Will tonight. You can get one to wear for Colton, but after seeing your wardrobe, anything you own will do."
  108.
  109. "Yeah, I have a few things in mind inside my closet. But I could use some more lingerie from Victoria's Secret. If you know what I mean." She wiggled her eyebrows seductively and laughed.
  110.
  111. I laughed too. I knew exactly what she meant; I knew we were going to have some fun.
  112.
  113. We went inside and sat down at a table
  114.
  115. "So, have you did that history essay that Mr. Sonner asked us to do yet?" Isabelle asked.
  116.
  117. "You know I haven't. That man has to be at least one hundred years old and he's still teaching. Plus, I don't take orders from practically dead people," I said nonchalantly.
  118.
  119. Our food came shortly after we got there and it was good, as usual.
  120.
  121. She laughed and said, "Neither do I, but unlike you, I actually care about school and my future. Not to mention my weight."
  122.
  123. Wow, that stung.
  124.
  125. My weight is too good. Five foot five and one hundred thirty-three pounds. But it's the truth, I don't care about school or weight.
  126.
  127. "I do care about my future, just not school. Not to mention my weight is perfect!" I said, getting aggravated.
  128.
  129. School isn't important to me what so ever because all it is is torture. You have to show up and listen and do what the teachers tell you to do.
  130.
  131. I'd rather go to the mall or mini golfing than stay there. I usually text Will and we skip together.
  132.
  133. That boy loves me so much that he'd do almost any crazy thing for me, and I love him so much I'd die if it meant I'd get to be with him.
  134.
  135. I've gotten detention so many times for not showing up to school that I don't even show up to detention.
  136.
  137. I'll get ISS for a few days or weeks. Then call my mom but as usual, but she doesn't answer.
  138.
  139. I then have to show up show up⎯it really isn't that bad; I write down random answers on my work and such, then I usually get suspended for a few days.
  140.
  141. But what's wrong with suspension is that it's just another day off from school to do whatever I want.
  142.
  143. "Let's go walk around in the mall now. You can get your exercise in," I suggested.
  144.
  145. We walked around a little bit after and went to Victoria's Secret, where Isabelle bought some red lingerie and some perfume. We also stopped by Rue 21 and Aeropostal and ended up buying some crop tops and some more short shorts since it's still warm and summer.
  146.
  147. We decided to go to Forever 21 and look around. And to our luck, we found a pretty maroon dress. It was low cut⎯Will will love that⎯and long.
  148.
  149. Isabelle said I could borrow a pair of her Gucci heels and a Michael Kors purse, which was definitely a plus.
  150.
  151. By the time we checked out, it was already one o'clock. Since it was past lunch and we were hungry, we decided to grab some Krispy Kreme. Isabelle insisted on paying for the donuts so I let her.
  152.
  153. After all, she is the rich one.
  154.
  155. We went to Isabelle's castle of a house to get ready for the club at six tonight, and she coaxed me into letting her do my makeup.
  156.
  157. I hate makeup and never wear it, and she could hardly sweet talk me into caking my face up.
  158.
  159. Too bad it worked this time.
  160.
  161. *** Okay, so that was the first chapter of the book. Please comment and let me know what you think. Also, let me know if I can do any more editing to make this better. Thank You!
