Mohib's Recommended 8 and 16-bit games

Personal favs that are also classics and great gateway games:
- Mega Man X
- Super Castlevania IV
- Chrono Trigger (really, most SNES RPGs)
- Yoshi's Island

Some other games I think are good gateways:
- Ninja Gaiden III JP (do NOT play the US version)
- Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
- Contra The Hard Corps JP (play the US version later it's ridiculously hard)
- Alien Soldier on Supereasy Mode (Note: Alien Soldier's definition of "Supereasy" is "*slightly* easier than Cuphead")
- Bucky O'Hare (this game is maybe the most comically hard video game I've ever beaten BUT it's extremely fair with checkpoints and passwords so you might wanna give it a go)
- Any other Mega Man game (particularly 2, 3, or 5)
- Donkey Kong Country (specifically 2)
- Crisis Force
- Gunstar Heroes
- Dynamite Headdy (specifically the JP version)

Games you should also check out, but not right away:
- Castlevania Bloodlines (my favorite Vania and hard but not THAT hard, but I hesitate to say it's a good entry point considering its weird save/continue system)
