  6. Pick is a British free-to-air television channel, owned by Sky UK. The channel was originally launched in 2005 as Sky Three. It was essentially a barker channel for Sky's main entertainment channel Sky One and its other subscription services, which served to "offer digital terrestrial viewers the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of popular programmes from Sky". From its launch on 31 October 2005 until 24 June 2010, the channel carried Sky Travel's commercial presentations selling holiday deals for a number of providers.
  7.
  8. Early highlights from the channel's schedule included Futurama, Cold Case, Tru Calling, Relic Hunter, Road Wars, the Inside strand of documentaries, Brainiac: Science Abuse, Airline, and 35mm from Sky Movies (which looks at upcoming films in the cinema and on Sky's premium movies service Sky Movies) and Dream Team. The channel has also shown the free-to-air premieres of some of Sky One's more prestigious shows such as series 3 and 4 of 24, Rescue Me, The 10th Kingdom, Hex and the latest remake of Battlestar Galactica. The channel also showed seasons 3 and 4 of Prison Break in 2010.
  9.
  10. Since its rebrand to Pick TV in February 2011, recent Sky One shows such as UK Border Force, Pineapple Dance Studios and documentary series hosted by Ross Kemp such as On Gangs and In Search of Pirates were shown. In recent years, Sky has spent more on the channel, with an increased focus on airing Sky One and Sky Living programmes 12–18 months after their original broadcasts, and content tailored towards Pick. Such programmes included Z Nation, Monkey Life and Most Evil Killers.
  11.
  12. On 1 February 2011, Sky Atlantic launched on Sky channel 108, which had originally been occupied by Sky 3. Sky rebranded Sky 3 as Pick TV on 28 February 2011. In May 2012, Pick TV started broadcasting some older Sky One and Sky Living shows, and the former Channel One and Bravo shows.
  13.
  14. On Monday 7 October 2013, Pick TV became Pick introducing a new look and logo for the channel. On 28 June 2016, another new logo was announced which also included a brand new look.
  15.
  16. Since its rebrand to Pick, it is fairly common for Pick and Challenge to cross-promote its programmes to viewers. These include regular trailers in between shows, and when a certain show finishes, the continuity announcer will usually tell viewers what is coming up next on both channels.
  17.
  18. A 60-second bespoke news bulletin from Sky News was introduced on 26 November 2012 and is broadcast nightly at 9:00pm. Live at Five is also simulcast on Pick from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
  19.

Narrated segments (which generally cover lighter issues unrelated to current news stories) are played in lieu of advertisements, and international weather forecasts also are given at the end of each half-hour newswheel. Sponsored advertisements are still broadcast before and/or after the sports news and weather segments.
  113.
  114. Sky News is not the ‘voice of the establishment’. It is impartial and authoritative, but it is also sometimes irreverent. One of its key aims is to engage the viewer in the news rather than relying solely on cold hard fact. The pace is fast, with headlines every 15 minutes. As pioneers in the use of ‘lives’, Sky News helps to bring viewers closer to the news: in effect, they become witnesses to the news as it happens.
  115.
  116. Sky News employs more than 500 dedicated staff worldwide, based at the Sky News centre in London and in its UK and international bureaux. This, along with its alliances with major broadcasters around the world, ensures that the service covers breaking news whenever - and wherever - it happens.

  119.
  120. From 12am-6am GMT, when Sky News’ international audience outweighs its viewers in the UK, producers and presenters are at pains to select stories of interest and relevance to them - from news to sport, business and weather forecasts.
  121.
  122. Sky News’ business coverage encompasses everything from fiscal and economic policy through the financial markets to personal finance. It is backed by Business Editor, Ed Conway, and calls on the experience of Sky News teams at home and abroad, plus the vast resources of Reuters, Bloomberg Television and Fox Business correspondents worldwide. For the latest business news tune in at 20 to each hour.
  123.
  124. Sky News broadcasts over three times more sports coverage than any other 24 hour news channel, covering all the major international sporting events throughout the world. In July 2001, Sky News Sports and Sky Sports News became one dedicated sports news operation. Although the teams have always worked closely, this merger allows Sky News to combine the extensive resources and expertise of Sky Sports with its own journalistic credentials. As a result Sky News offers unrivalled global sports news coverage in its hourly bulletins at 20 past the hour, every hour. Viewers can also tune into Sportsline, Sky News’ twice-daily half-hour sports show – at 1845 and 2245.
  125.
  126. Sky News’ award-winning weather team is led by forecaster Nazaneen Ghaffar. The channel was the first to use the predictive sequence, where the weather elements change hour-by-hour, and has continued to develop its graphics. Its most recent innovation are aerial 3D graphics of both maps and the weather itself – allowing the presenter to guide viewers above and below the clouds across the country, before opening out to show the weather predictive sequence hour-by-hour for the whole of Britain and Ireland. The weather team can use both Sky News’ newswall as well as virtual graphics with split screens. The expertise of the weather team is called upon when a big story breaks, with Nazaneen offering analysis and context to natural disasters and wild weather across the globe. Join Nazaneen Ghaffar and presenters Isobel Lang, Jo Wheeler, Kirsty McCabe, Denise Nurse and Steff Gaulter every day at 25 past and 5 to the hour.
