>It's more of a scarlet letter for her demon form. At some point in life she had an opportunity to stop something bad from happening or help someone in dire need, but chose not to out of self preservation. She "turned a blind eye" to some crisis, and now in death she's literally blind in one eye.

Her involvement in Charlie's project is rooted in the hope that it's not too late to start acting altruistically; she's trying to make up for the people she failed in life.
