「…ふう、ご馳走様」
Eiji: ...Aah, thank you for the meal.

キリコ
「ごちそうさま?」
Chirico: What are you saying thanks for?

エイジ
「ああ、すみません。
食事が終わった時の決まり文句です」
Eiji: Oh, sorry. It’s just something you’re supposed to say after eating.

キリコ
「[グラドス]の慣習か」
Chirico: Is that a [Gradosian] tradition?

エイジ
「いえ…父の国です。
僕の父には、色々と複雑な過去がありまして」
Eiji: No, it’s something from my father’s home country. He’s had a pretty complicated past.

キリコ
「そうか」
Chirico: I see.

エイジ
「このキャリアに備え付けの保存食ですから、
贅沢は言えませんが、あまり美味しくは
ありませんでしたね」
Eiji: Still, since this carrier only had preserved foods, I can’t exactly say it was fine dining.

キリコ
「レーションなど、どこでも似たような物だ」
Chirico: Things like rations are pretty much the same everywhere.

エイジ
「ギルガメスでもそうでしたか。
グラドスもですが…目的地の物は
どうなんでしょう」
Eiji: I guess that goes for [Gilgamesh] and Grados... But we don’t how it’ll be at the place we’re going to.

キリコ
「あまり期待しない方がいい」
Chirico: I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

エイジ
「そうですね…」
Eiji: Yeah, I guess I shouldn’t...

エイジ
「あ、キリコさん。
食事が終わったところで
お願いがあるんですが」
Eiji: Oh, Chirico. Now that we’re done eating, there’s something I wanted to ask.

キリコ
「………」
Chirico: ...

エイジ
「また追撃隊が現れた時のために
戦闘訓練をやっておきたいんです。
付き合ってもらえませんか?」
Eiji: I wanted to do some combat training in case another pursuit unit shows up. Would you mind helping me?

キリコ
「レイズナーは使えるようになったのか?」
Chirico: Does that mean the Layzner is operational now?

エイジ
「まだ時間が掛かりそうです。
だから、[AT]をお借りします」
Eiji: No, that’s still going to take some time. So I was thinking I would borrow the other [AT].

キリコ
「パーツ取り用に持ってきた予備機のことか?
あれは宙間戦闘に適応させてない」
Chirico: You mean the reserve unit we brought along for spare parts? That thing isn’t outfitted for space combat.

エイジ
「ええ、そう聞いていたので
[SPT]の予備バックパックを
装備させてみました」
Eiji: Yeah, that’s what I’d been told, so I equipped it with a spare backpack from an [SPT].

キリコ
「そんなことが出来たのか…。
だが、操縦はマスターしたのか?」
Chirico: I didn’t know that was possible... But do you even know how to pilot it?

エイジ
「お借りしたコンピューターに
操縦マニュアルが入っていましたから」
Eiji: Yes, the computer I borrowed from you came with a piloting manual.

エイジ
「でも、ATには驚きました。
あんなに小型なのに、高性能で…」
Eiji: But the AT surprised me. Even with it being so small, it’s got such high performance capability...

キリコ
「色々省いているがな」
Chirico: That’s because it comes with a tradeoff.

エイジ
「確かに…安全性や居住性が
犠牲になっているように感じます」
Eiji: Yeah... It looks like it sacrifices the pilot’s safety and survivability for it.

キリコ
「ATパイロット…
ボトムズ乗りは、使い捨ての消耗品に過ぎない」
Chirico: AT pilots—Bottoms—are considered an expendable resource.

エイジ
「……そういえば聞いたことがあります。
ギルガメスで、ボトムズ乗りは
底辺の存在として扱われていると」
Eiji: ...I heard about that before. That in Gilgamesh, Bottoms are treated like the lowest of the low.

キリコ
「ああ、その通りだ」
Chirico: Yes, that’s right.

キリコ
「マニュアルを読んだだけにしては、
ATの特性を理解したようだな」
Chirico: For someone who only read a manual, you seem to have a good grasp of AT functionality.

エイジ
「これでも士官学校で
SPTの教程は卒業していますから」
Eiji: Well, I’d already completed the SPT course at the military academy.

エイジ
「僕のパイロットスーツはSPT用の物ですが、
小改造でATとのデータリンクにも対応出来ました」
Eiji: My pilot suit was designed for SPTs, but with a few modifications, it should be able to datalink with an AT as well.

キリコ
「………」
Chirico: ...

キリコ
「その肩は自分で塗ったのか?」
Chirico: Were you the one that colored its shoulder?

エイジ
「いえ、標準装備の物ですが…これが何か?」
Eiji: No, it’s just standard equipment. ...Why, what about it?

キリコ
「………」
Chirico: ...

キリコ
「…いや、何でもない」
Chirico: ...No, it’s nothing.

エイジ
(何だろう…
今一瞬、キリコさんの目が凄く怖かった…)
Eiji: (What was that about...? It was just for a second, but Chirico’s eyes were terrifying just then...)

エイジ
(この赤い肩にいったい何が…)
Eiji: (What’s so special about this red shoulder...?)

キリコ
「色々準備はしたようだが…
ATに乗るのは止めておけ」
Chirico: You’ve done a lot to prepare for this... But you shouldn’t pilot the AT.

エイジ
「何故ですか?」
Eiji: Why not?

キリコ
「ここしばらく、一緒にいてわかった。
お前は戦いに向いていない」
Chirico: I can tell after having been with you for a while. You aren’t cut out for battle.

エイジ
「!」
Eiji: !

エイジ
「確かに、実戦経験はまだありません。
でも、士官学校の訓練教程では
平均以上の成績を出しています」
Eiji: It’s true I don’t have any real life combat experience yet. But my grades were above average in the training courses at the military academy.

キリコ
「そういう話はしていない」
Chirico: I’m not talking about that.

エイジ
「………」
Eiji: ...

キリコ
「…だが、生き延びるために
今、出来ることをやろうという気持ちはわかる」
Chirico: ...Then again, I know how it feels to want to do everything you can to stay alive.

キリコ
「いいだろう、訓練には付き合う。
準備を始めるぞ」
Chirico: Fine, I’ll help you train. Start preparing.

エイジ
「あ、ありがとうございます!」
Eiji: Th-Thank you very much!


第2話
『模擬戦』
Episode 2
Mock Battle


(Scene begins on a map screen of space. Eiji is in a blue Scopedog and Chirico is in his Scopedog RSC. The Tripod Carrier is off to the side.)

エイジ
「よろしくお願いします、キリコさん」
Eiji: Thank you for doing this, Chirico.

キリコ
「その巨大なバックパック、制御は可能なのか?」
Chirico: Are you sure you can operate that huge backpack?

エイジ
「即席ですが、ミッションディスクを
プログラミングしてみました」
Eiji: It’s sort of improvised, but I did program the Mission Disk for it.

キリコ
「驚いたな。よく短時間で出来たものだ」
Chirico: I’m surprised. Especially given how short notice it was.

エイジ
「必要に迫られてましたから。
では、お願いします」
Eiji: It was just something I felt I needed to do. Now, if you please.

キリコ
「SPTは、搭載コンピューターの
バックアップが手厚いと聞くが、
ATにそんな物はない」
Chirico: I’d heard that SPTs are equipped with well-mannered computers for backup, but ATs have no such thing.

エイジ
「ええ、当てにしないでやってみます」
Eiji: Yeah, I’m going to try to not have to rely on it.

キリコ
「よし、始めるぞ」
Chirico: Then, let’s begin.

(Battle 1 begins.)

(This exchange triggers when Eiji battles Chirico.)

キリコ
(…速い。バックパックの性能故か)
Chirico: (...It’s fast. Must be because of the backpack.)

キリコ
「エイジ、どうせ模擬弾だ。
遠慮なく当ててくるといい」
Chirico: Remember these are just dummy rounds, Eiji. Hit me as much as you like.

エイジ
「そうさせてもらいます!」
Eiji: I’ll do just that!

(This exchange triggers after the first battle.)

キリコ
(思った通りだ…)
Chirico: (Just like I thought...)

キリコ
(模擬弾だというのに、
急所を外して狙ってくる…)
Chirico: (Even with dummy rounds, he won’t aim at anything vital...)

(Battle 1 ends when either Chirico or Eiji fall below 40% HP.)

キリコ
「…ここまでだ。
この結果では、実戦に出るのは危険だぞ」
Chirico: ...I’ve seen enough. It’s too dangerous for you to go into a real battlefield when you fight like this.

エイジ
「ですが…」
Eiji: But...

キリコ
「お前に足りない物、それは……」
Chirico: What you’re lacking is—

(Eiji and Chirico detect something.)

エイジ
「キリコさん、グラドスの追撃隊です!」
Eiji: Chirico, it’s a Grados pursuit unit!

キリコ
「ああ、こっちでも捉えた。
急いで模擬弾を実弾に換装するぞ」
Chirico: Right, I picked it up too. Let’s hurry and swap our dummy rounds for live ones.

エイジ
「はい!」
Eiji: Okay!


(Scene ends.)

(Next scene picks up where it left off. Several Grados SPTs are on the map.)


エイジ
「来た…追撃隊が…」
Eiji: They’re here... It’s the pursuit unit...

(Chirico moves towards the enemies.)

キリコ
「エイジ、奴らとは俺が戦う。
お前は後方から支援してくれればいい」
Chirico: I’ll engage them, Eiji. You provide support from the rear.

エイジ
「でも…!」
Eiji: But...!

キリコ
「殺せない奴が無理をするな」
Chirico: You can’t do this if you aren’t willing to kill.

エイジ
「!!」
Eiji: !!

(Battle 2 begins.)

(This line triggers after Eiji battles an enemy.)

エイジ
「これが実戦…!
けど、僕の使命を果たすためには…!」
Eiji: This is a real battle...! But, if I’m ever going to complete my mission, I...!

(This line triggers when Chirico battles an enemy.)

キリコ
(エイジには敵の急所を狙えない。
こちらで引き受けるしかない)
Chirico: (Eiji won’t shoot at an enemy’s vitals. I’ll have to handle this.)

(Battle 2 ends when all enemies are defeated.)

エイジ
「はあ、はあ、はあ…!」
Eiji: Haa, haa, haa...!

キリコ
「どうやら今回はこれで終わりのようだ。
キャリアに戻るぞ」
Chirico: Looks like that’s all of them for now. We’re going back to the carrier.

エイジ
「は、はい…」
Eiji: R-Right...

エイジ
(撃墜したSPT、
パイロットは脱出できたのか…?)
Eiji: (Were the pilots of those SPTs we shot down able to eject...?)

キリコ
「…エイジ、戦闘後に何をしていた?」
Chirico: ...What were you doing after the battle, Eiji?

エイジ
「え?いえ、何も…」
Eiji: Huh? Uh, I wasn’t—

キリコ
「撃破した敵機から脱出したパイロットがいないか、
探していたのだろう?」
Chirico: You were looking for the pilots that ejected from the enemy units we shot down, weren’t you?

エイジ
「…ええ、その通りです」
Eiji: ...Yes, I was.

キリコ
「次からは止めておけ」
Chirico: Don’t do that again.

キリコ
「SPTのデータを見せてもらったが、
サバイバルキットも発信器も積んである。
後方から来る本隊に救助してもらえるはずだ」
Chirico: I’ve seen the data on the SPTs, they’re equipped with survival kits and transmitters. They’ll be rescued by their main force when it catches up to them.

エイジ
「ですが、酸素漏れを起こしていたりしたら!」
Eiji: But, what if they had an oxygen leak!?

キリコ
「救助したら、撃墜したことを
許してもらえると思ったか?」
Chirico: Do you think saving them would be enough for them to forgive you shooting them down in the first place?

エイジ
「!」
Eiji: !

エイジ
「いえ、そういうわけでは…」
Eiji: No, that’s not what I...

キリコ
「エイジ、お前は軍の機密であるレイズナーを
奪った脱走兵だ」
Chirico: Eiji, you’re a deserter that stole their military’s top-secret machine, the Layzner.

キリコ
「そういう者は、決して見逃してはもらえない。
どこへ逃げても追われ続ける…それが嫌なら、
追っ手と戦って倒すしかない」
Chirico: They won’t just forget about someone like you. No matter where you run, they will hunt you down. ...And if you don’t want that, then you have to defeat the ones that come after you.

キリコ
「それが…お前が選んだ道だ」
Chirico: That...is the path you’ve chosen.

エイジ
「わかっている…つもりです」
Eiji: I understand that... I think I do.

キリコ
「さっき言いかけた、お前に足りない物…
それは覚悟だ」
Chirico: As I was saying before, the thing you lack...is resolve.

エイジ
「命を懸ける覚悟なら、出来ています」
Eiji: If it’s about being ready to risk my own life, then I’m prepared for that.

キリコ
「そうではない。
お前はもうわかっているはずだ」
Chirico: It’s not. And you already know that.

(Chirico leaves.)

エイジ
「キリコさん…」
Eiji: Chirico...

エイジ
「………」
Eiji: ...

エイジ
(覚悟…。
そうだ…僕には出来ていなかった…)
Eiji: (Resolve... That’s right... I couldn’t do it...)

エイジ
(誰かの生命を奪ってしまうかも知れない覚悟が…)
Eiji: (I’m not ready to take someone else’s life...)

AT

登場作品    装甲騎兵ボトムズ

アーマードトルーパーの略。
全高4メートル前後の人型機動兵器。
兵士たちの間では、搭乗者の生存率が非常に
低いことから、「最低の野郎ども」という意味を
揶揄して『ボトムズ』とも呼ばれる。

AT

From:       Armored Trooper VOTOMS

An abbreviation for Armored Trooper.
They are humanoid mobile weapon that are around 4 meters in height.
They are also called “Bottoms”, a derogatory term for the “lowest of the low” among soldiers, due to the extraordinarily low survival rate of their pilots.


ギルガメス

登場作品    装甲騎兵ボトムズ

ギルガメス星域の各国家、またはそこに所属する軍。
アストラギウス銀河を二分する勢力の片側であり、
キリコが所属していたメルキア方面軍も
ギルガメス陣営である。

Gilgamesh

From:       Armored Trooper VOTOMS

Refers all planets in the Gilgamesh region, or the army that belongs to it.
It is a force that controls one side of the Astragius Galaxy. The Melkia army, which Chirico was a part of, is also part of Gilgamesh.

登場作品    蒼き流星SPTレイズナー

「SUPER POWERED TRACER」の略。
パワードスーツの発展型としてグラドス星で
開発された機動兵器。

The abbreviation for “SUPER POWERED TRACER”.
They are mobile weapons developed on the planet Glados as a successor of the Power Suit.
