  1. Greetings, my name is Kaleb Flowers. I am submitting this appeal as a formal statement of my attempt to retroactively drop three courses from my first freshman semester (Fall 2018.) The majority of this appeal is based on the same information provided within my SAP Appeal which has already been accepted because of the details I will discuss here. In conjunction with this statement are also multiple documents directly from LSU that should also help assist with proving my claims.
  2. Foremost, the reasoning for this appeal comes from a financial issue caused by LSU itself. Like many students, I rely mainly on financial aid to help assist with the costs of college. And like them, all extra materials, such as textbooks, are paid for by the financial refund I receive. This however is what caused my issue within the first semester, LSU did not send me my financial aid until the semester was already over. How can I be expected to use my financial aid to purchase my supplies when the University does not send it to me until it is no longer usable? It was December 7th of 2018 that I received my financial aid refund for the Fall Semester, which was over already. To credit my words as truth, I have attached a copy of my Billing Statement directly from LSU that shall show you the date on which I received my first financial aid refund.
  3. Because of LSU’s mistake in doing such to me, though it may have been unintentional, it caused me to be unable to purchase any materials for any of my courses. I am sure the members of the committee reading this can most likely assume that it is not reasonable to expect a student to pass his courses if he does not even own any of the textbooks or online materials required. Hopefully you will also find it reasonable to say that if LSU has withheld a student’s financial aid refund without even giving them notice or a reason that the University is responsible for denying him the resources he required to pass his courses. I applied for Financial Aid through FAFSA, Tops, and other documentation, the organizations responsible for such approved and sent the financial aid to my University. And in return the University withheld me from my own financial aid until the semester it was for was already over. Because of LSU, my GPA has been gravely affected. I have lost my TOPS, I have lost any future chances at a Scholarship, and now I am in debt due to having to take out student loans.
  4. It was over the 2019 Summer Break that I used the previous statements and documentation to submit a SAP Appeal to the University. Because of my GPA from the first Semester, it cost me the entirety of my Financial Aid due to having a GPA lower than 2.0. After explaining the situation, providing evidence that proved my claims (such as my LSU Billing Statement), my SAP Appeal was promptly accepted. However, this only served as a temporary solution. It allowed me to ignore the first Semester of grades for a few months, but now they are once again affecting my overall GPA. As you will know, it is not exactly the easiest thing to improve your GPA when 3 of your classes ended with an F. This is the reason I need these classes dropped from my record, as it will serve as a permanent solution to an issue that LouisianaState University caused on their own accord by withholding my financial aid without warning or reasoning until the end of the semester it was intended for.
  5. To show my point of how this affected me, I have included a second print out of my billing statement of my second semester at the University. In this Semester, I received my financial aid on the first day of classes (as it is normally supposed to be). As shown by my final grades (which I have also printed out), I was easily able to pass every single course of this semester without problem. This should serve to say this: That without LSU irresponsibly handling my financial aid I would have been more than able to pass all of my courses the first Semester. And as the people who approved my SAP Appeal were told, and as I tell you as well, I do not hold any sort of anger against the University, I simply ask for the opportunity to have this mistake fixed so I may continue my path at the College of Humanities.
  6. Committee Members who may be reading this, I entrusted this University to properly care for my Financial Aid and to refund the leftover amount to me on the first day of classes like they did every other student. Instead I was not given such, I was given no opportunity to succeed whatsoever, my money was withheld from me and even now I still have never been given an answer to “why?” At this point I have accepted I will never get an answer to that question, I am only looking for a solution to the problem that has been caused. With my GPA entirely ruined because of this Semester, I need to be able to have these three classes dropped from my record. I believe that the documentation I have provided shall be more than enough to show that because the issue was caused by LSU, that it has a moral obligation to fix it. I have provided multiple levels of proof for these claims, and I hope that you will look them over, and make the same decision that SAP Appeal board made, to approve this.
