  1. Megafauna is a planet on the border of the Gilgamesh and Odin empires. The planet is mostly a cold, desert wasteland on the surface, with much rock and tundra-like terrain throughout th esurface of the planet. Previously thought to be uninhabited and near worthless besides being a liveable planet, both empires were shocked as their own investigations led to them learning several things about the planet.
  2. 1. The planet was indeed colonized and inhabited by humans at some point, though they had regressed to a lower form of civilization that had forgotten much and were unable to maintain and repair their tech.
  3. 2. The planet's surface is indeed cold and blasted, but under it are several 'biodomes,' caverns in which a miniature jungle-like ecosphere exist, homes to a multitude of species.
  4. 3. The namesakes of the planet, massive creatures of which their scale was previously thought to be impossible. Dragon-like creatures known as wyverns being the chief among them.
  5.
  6. Both planets colonized the planet and attempted to make peace or negotiations with the original enhabitants, known as Megafaunians, but were 100% unsuccessful in reaching an understanding or peace. Many of the megafaunians were killed in order to take over their respective biodomes. The cities built within them are powered by the multitude of geothermal vents which enabled the biodomes to exist in the first place. Not all Megafaunians have been killed, many were captured and forced upon a reservation in which they had to learn to live together under their new circumstances. Sympathetic members of both the Gilgamesh and Odin empires have gone to live with them and attempt to advance their society. Whatever their fates may be, the Megafaunians indeed have come to embrace the knowledge of technology, as shown in their use of guns, hovercraft, and mecha.
  7. While the initial discovery of the biodomes was an important discovery, further mining and exploration into the planet revealed the true treasure of the planet- Megablood. A viscous liquid that oozes from pockets in the planet, a powerful fuel that provides greater energy yields that are among the most valuable in the galaxies. Upon the discovery of this fluid, further investigation and mining was undertaken, but then the secondary source of the Megablood was found. The eponymous megafauna of the planet, the various massive beasts that roamed its surface and biodomes, were found to be huge reservoirs of the fuel, pumping through their veins. While not viable at all times of year, wyvern hunting has become one of the most profitable ventures on the planet, more than enough to warrant the assigning of multiple Lancers.
  8. Ownership of the planet is split between Odin and Gilgamesh, with each claiming roughly half of the planet and regularly engaging in combat at the borders, where many of the remaining Megafaunians still live. The player-controlled Lancers will begin stationed at Fort Jotun, a border fortress built on J City. The cavalry hosted there defend and support J City by engaging in regular patrols of the area, keeping it from being assaulted by the feral megafauna and raided by Gilgamesh raiders. However, it is just a part of the multi-layered city, which has filled up the entirety of the biodome, as well as into surrounding shafts that have been excavated to expand it. It's a self-contained metropolis that's constantly humid and hot. Gambling is legal, leading to multiple mecha fighting rings that engage in what they purport to be the proud tradition of battling. Multiple gangs roam the city's inner streets, the most powerful one being the Boone Gang that are rumored to be in cahoots with the military police. Dealers of drugs synthesized from other natural ingredients found on Megafauna can be found on every block. Weapon dealers are harder to find, but their connections can yield powerful armaments. Even though the Megafauna farming operations yield high rewards, the price of assigning the highly-valuable Lancers is high enough that the bean-counters cut down on whatever other costs they can.
  9. Of the native species of Megafauna, those who share the name with the planet are the most deadly, and the most profitable. The wyverns are numerous, but migrate erratically based on weather patterns. While deadly by themselves, they can be even more dangerous in a swarm. Those who wish to hunt them must be prepared to kill one and move quickly, or be prepared to weather the wyvern storm. Death Turtles are massive shelled reptiles slowly advance over the landscape like moving mountains, with pipes that spew a corrosive smoke that flows upwards, and are home to various symbiotic species that live upon the crevices of their shells. It is said that they ahve multiple brains so that if one of them is destroyed, the rest of the body can mindlessly move along nonetheless. The wyrms are subterranean dwelling serpents who live deep below the surface, marinating in Megablood for most of the year until it's time for them to emerge and pull their bizarre, lengthy bodies along the surface to find mates to procreate with. It's best to find one while it's single, lest you find tow in the midst of their mating, when they're at their wildest and deadliest. In the depths of the oceans, krakens roam and suck in Megablood-saturated water and mutant krill and plankton. Hunting them is dangerous as their powerful bioelectric fields can disable mecha, while their symbiotic creatures swarm potential hunters and tear them apart. Truly the most vicious and terrifying creature of all among Megafauna are the Killdragons, which dwell upon the highest mountains and are capable of flying in the highest reaches of the atmosphere, drawing energy from the radiation belts surrounding the planet, descending in what seems to only be terrible acts of hatred and malice upon the settlers of the planet.
