  1. Pocket Monsters' Stadium FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What are you doing?
  4.
  5. A: Trying to beat all 4 Cups in the L1-30 Division (Monster, Super, Hyper, and Master Ball) as fast as possible
  6.
  7. Q: Why?
  8.
  9. A: The main goal is that if I'm able to complete a run, Pocket Monsters' Stadium will be put into the Pokemon speedruns leaderboards on speedrun.com
  10.
  11. Q: What are you playing on? Is it an emulator?
  12.
  13. A: No I'm playing this on a Version 1.1 cart on an NTSC-U Console
  14.
  15. Q: How are you able to play a Japanese game on an American console?
  16.
  17. A: It's pretty easy to unregion lock the Nintendo 64 (Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DyYDG0XpM4 You can buy the tool to unscrew the back of the N64 cart with a tool you can buy online (look for a 3.8mm gambit))
  18.
  19. Q: What's the World Record?
  20.
  21. A: There currently is no other completed run of this category
  22.
  23. Q: Then about how long will this take?
  24.
  25. A: My guess is about 2 hours and 20 minutes deathless
  26.
  27. Q: Deathless?
  28.
  29. A: My goal is to finish a run without dying. Pocket Monsters' Stadium doesn't have Continues, so if you lose a fight, you have to start the whole cup over again
  30.
  31. Q: How likely are you to finish a run?
  32.
  33. A: This game is brutal. My calculated odds show that I have about a 1 in 280 chance of completing a deathless run
  34.
  35. Q: How does timing work for this?
  36.
  37. A: Timing starts when you press OK to select your first team and ends when the last badge touches your hat after the last battle
  38.
  39. Q: Gen 1 is really broken in terms of mechanics right? Will you be abusing any of this?
  40.
  41. A: In this run, we really don't exploit Gen 1 mechanics unless it happens (which is all RNG). The 2 you're most likely to see are Hyper Beam (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Hyper_Beam_(move) Look at the Generation I section) and Gen 1 miss (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Accuracy scroll down to 1/256 miss glitch)
  42.
  43. Q: What is RNG?
  44.
  45. A: RNG stands for Random Number Generator and is basically equal to luck
  46.
  47. Q: What Pokemon do you use in the run?
  48.
  49. A: Nidoking, Arcanine, Electrode, Tauros, Gyarados, and Primeape
  50.
  51. Q: How do you know what moves they have?
  52.
  53. A: I memorized them based off their animation and PP to find out what the move was
  54.
  55. Q: Wouldn't transferring Pokemon from cartridges be faster?
  56.
  57. A: Yes
  58.
  59. Q: Then why are you using rentals?
  60.
  61. A: It wouldn't be a fun at all if you just swept the game with Mewtwo; there'd be no competition. Plus, it's not allowed in this category
  62.
  63. Q: Why does the COM have a shiny? I thought shinies didn't exist until Gen 2?
  64.
  65. A: You're right, they didn't. However, if your opponent sends out a Pokemon you have, it'll be a slightly different color in order to show which one is yours during the in battle cutscenes
  66.
  67. Q: Is this World Record pace?
  68.
  69. A: It's always World Record pace until the splits say otherwise
