- NJ Swamp-Dragons?!?!?!?!

- Just heard on WFAN that the NJ Nets, in the infinite wisdom of their
- infantile board of directors, have decided to change their moniker from
- "Nets" to............"Swamp-Dragons".....that's right...."Swamp-Dragons".
- can't wait to see the logo.

- OK, I got some flames on my appraisal of P.J. in the Nets organization.
- Yes, he's a good hard-working player, but unless Childs and Hammer
- continue playing like allstars, we're going to need some more scoring.
- Completely unrelated topic. I heard, perhaps this Summer, that the
- Nets were trying to get their name changed to something like the
- Swamp Dragons, and that it was going to happen next year. The rationale
- was that a cooler name would attract more fans. I personally think it's
- a stupid idea. If we're going to change it, change it to the Devils, and
- then change the Giants to the Devils also. Hey the Great Swamp is a great
- place to go mucking about, but NJ already has an overinflated reputation
- as being a hazardous waste dump.
- So what's the scoop? Is the name changing?

- Last season they had petitioned the NBA to change the name and
- received permission, but didn't do it anyway. Governor Whitman's
- office asked them not to use "Swamp" Dragons for basically the same
- reasons you gave, and the Nets agreed. They changed their plans to
- Fire Dragons, but never went through with it.
- Actually, I kind of like Swamp Dragons. Fire Dragons sounds too much
- like they're trying to be cool and failing. The "Meadow"lands IS a
- swamp for crying out loud! Don't deny it, revel in it! The Nets
- could be the tough guys from the Swamp. I think the attitude could
- work, and could sell some jerseys.
- Oh well, just my two cents. I'm sure the governor's vote counts for
- more than mine.

- Howdy all
- Just me again tellin you of the latest news out of Chicago, the
- gaming capital of the world. Not turned on as of 9pm or so late nite
- is NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC by Midway. It's the latest brainchild from
- the outstanding Mark Turmell, maker of the NBA Jam and Blitz. I can't
- say much about it as I haven't had the chance to look/play it yet but
- the controls are identical to Jam and Blitz with your standard
- joystick, turbo and 2 other buttons, prolly jump/pass and
- shoot/something. Anyways, I'll be swinging by the arcade to (if the
- wooooman allows) and I'll post tonite my first impressions of this
- game. Suffice to say, it's 1 of 2 games I've been looking forward to
- in 1999. Showtime and Tekken 4. They can't be far away now. Ciao!
