  1. Gon was unconscious. Danny was weakened. And Yellow was trapped in the Heavy's iron grip. Suzaku wouldn't be coming for another hour and fifty-five minutes. All seemed lost for the Youth Gone Wild. But then...
  2.
  3. "Hold it!"
  4.
  5. With a sudden, renewed burst of vigor, from out of the shadows, Hermes Conrad stood up, pointing an accusatory finger at the man who held Yellow hostage. "I won't let you do this!", he yelled. "I won't let you trample all over our dreams without a permit! What's your name?"
  6.
  7. He arched his eyebrows ever-so-slightly. Caught off-guard by the outburst, he answered, "Mikhail."
  8.
  9. "Mikhail, right. And who hired you?" Hermes demanded.
  10.
  11. "How is this important?" Mikhail asked, slightly increasing his grip on the girl.
  12.
  13. Hermes began pacing around the giant mercenary. "Are you aware," he began, "that this 'job' you've been tasked to do in defending the tower was given out by none other than notorious domestic terrorist Lelouch Vi Britannia, who not only has filled out none of the paperwork required to hire coolies for security detail, but isn't even a legal member of the country? Surely you're aware of the provisions put forth in the longstanding Mercenary-Client Charter which documents exactly which documents must be filed to purchase a hitman, even if he isn't technically putting out a hit on anybody! I'd like to hear your explanation for that!"
  14.
  15. Mikhail cautiously brought Yellow back down to the ground. "Documents? We work outside of the law. Surely, there is no need?"
  16.
  17. "Are you serious? The fact that you think that just proves that you're an amateur!" Hermes countered. "A hired gun who doesn't know how to file paperwork is an absolute laughingstock in the underworld. Fortunately, we can rectify this rapidamente. Sign these." Hermes reached into his overcoat and pulled out a massive sheaf of papers. "You can take a pen from the reception desk. All you have to do is fill out a couple of these, bubble in a few of these, write out some of these, and - hey, don't think I don't see you over there, string bean!"
  18.
  19. Up on the second floor, the thin man peered out over the railing. "Yeah, you! Don't think you can have a sniper perch up there without acquiescing to the agreed-upon terms laid out in the 9c44 form! Get your skinny ass down here!" He reluctantly complied, walking down the escalator (which was off) and accepting Hermes' armload of documents.
  20.
  21. "Alright, now let's get the others together and -" Hermes looked for the other one, the younger man who'd ran at them when they walked in. He wasn't to the left. He wasn't to the right. But behind his back-
  22.
  23. "Great hyena of Argentina!"
  24.
  25. There was Gon, being held under one arm by the fast runner. Danny was being carried by two men of average build, one with a rocket launcher strapped to his back, another with a shield and sword at his side. Yellow chased after them, snapping at their heels with her fishing rod.
