  1. Chess Evolved
  2. War Changes
  3.
  4. Chess Evolved, as you might expect, is a game based on Chess. It is played on the same board and sometimes uses the same pieces. In Chess Evolved, you can replace existing pieces in your army with homebrewed creations, the only stipulations being that your army must have the same total points cost as your opponents (unless you both agree otherwise), your army must total sixteen pieces, and your army must have a Leader.
  5.
  6. Provided here are a smattering of abilities to apply to your custom pieces. However, should your opponent agree that the points cost is appropriate, you may add any ability you can come up with to a piece.
  7.
  8. Move: The most fundamental ability of the game. This defines how far and in what direction a piece can move. The cost for this ability is 1 point per possible square of movement. The way in which a piece moves can be anything, as long as it is properly and unambiguously described.
  9.
  10. Cowardice: This allows a piece to move differently when it is in danger of being captured. This is treated as an alternate Move, and is priced identically.
  11.
  12. Defensive: This piece cannot be captured, and this piece cannot capture enemy pieces. This ability costs 2 points. You can have no more than 2 pieces with this ability on the board at any one time. This ability cannot be given to a piece that has the Leader ability.
  13.
  14. Haste: This allows a piece to move differently on its first movement. This is treated as an alternate Move, and is priced identically.
  15.
  16. Leader: This makes a piece the leader of your army. You may have only one piece on the board with this ability. When a piece with this ability is captured, you lose the game. This ability is free.
  17.
  18. Leap: This allows a piece to move past other pieces. If you pay 2 points for this ability, it only allows a piece to move past pieces you control. If you pay 4 points for this ability, it allows a piece to move past all other pieces. A piece cannot take a Leader if the move involves moving more than 3 spaces and Leaping an enemy piece.
  19.
  20. Ranged Take: This allows a piece to take opposition pieces by moving to a space adjacent to them. This ability is priced similarly to move, but the price of each additional square beyond squares immediately adjacent to the piece increases by 1 (A square immediately adjacent to the piece costs 1 point, the square beyond that costs 2 points, the square beyond that costs 3 points, etc.). Unless this is the only way in which a piece can capture enemy pieces, add 5 to the cost of this ability. This ability cannot be used against a Leader.
  21.
  22. Rookie: This means that once a piece reaches the opposing edge of the board, it can become any other piece in your army that is not a Leader. This ability costs points equal to the piece's Move cost multiplied by 5.
  23.
  24. Varied Take: This allows a piece to move differently if that move allows it to take an enemy piece. This is treated as an alternate Move, and is priced identically. If this is the only way a piece can capture an enemy piece, remove half the cost of Varied Take.
