He never thought he could quite hate a memory, not when they made up so much of his being, his SOUL. He was a creature of time, a librarian of realities, to him memories were precious knowledge. Never before had one buried itself so deeply away in the back of his thoughts to hide itself from him, to protect him.

"Heart! Can you imagine for me? What if I died and my SOUL was lost?"

"Huh?" His voice had a quaver to it that he disguised in a sigh. "But why would you ever go somewhere where I couldn't see you, Torry?"

"I might not always have the choice, dear Heart. But, if that did happen, if you couldn't see me anymore....would you look for me?"

He choked for a minute, unable to hide that one. "All the seas and skies...." He paused.

"What would you give up?"

His heart gave a hard thump against his ribs. "Give up?....everything...everything I had to see you again."

Now, Heart closed his eyes and sighed. "Heh, Torry, I told you. I kept my promise. I would give up everything...." He flopped back on his back and closed his eyes, retreating into his thoughts, the only place where he could find that warmth, that soft laugh.

"Heart? Heart! Would you let me visit your dreams?"

"Of course." A feeling of warmth surrounded him like an invisible hug.

"Thank you. It's good to be around friends, even if it is only a dream."

In the wet grass, the sleeping Heart gave a soft sigh and hugged something close to him, something only he could see.
