- Siegbert: [smile, closed eyes] There you go, Mathilda. Good girl.
- Silas: Her mane’s looking beautiful, Siegbert.
- Siegbert: [smile] It’s only because she’s so well-behaved when I comb her.
- Silas: [smile] It’s hard to believe that scruffy little filly grew up into such a majestic horse.
- [neigh SFX]
- Siegbert: [smile, closed eyes] I think she’s annoyed you called her scruffy.
- Silas: Okay, okay! Let’s say adventurous, then.
- Silas: Anyway, you wanted some tips on form?
- Silas: [sweat, smile] Although honestly, I’m not sure how much I can teach you at this point.
- Siegbert: Father, you’re one of the most accomplished knights in Nohr’s army! There’s so much I can learn from you!
- Silas: [sweat] You might be giving me a bit too much credit there, Sieg.
- Silas: But I’ll do my best!
- Siegbert: Anything you can teach me would be appreciated.
- Siegbert: [sweat] I’d like to enlist in the Nohrian cavalry myself, once the war is over.
- Silas: [surprised] You want to be a knight?
- Siegbert: Yes – I’ve long dreamed of it, in fact.
- Siegbert: I don’t expect any special treatment, of course, so I’ll need to train as hard as I can.
- Silas: [injured] I… I’m not sure if that’s such a good idea. The knights, I mean.
- Silas: Once the war ends, you’ll be able to be properly named as a member of the royal family.
- Siegbert: [surprised] But Father underwent knightly training, didn’t he?
- Silas: [unsure] He did, but…
- Silas: Let’s just see how the war goes, okay? We don’t need to rush into anything.
- Siegbert: [sad] …Yes, Father.
- B-support
- Siegbert: …So that’s where I’m up to. What do you think?
- Silas: [smile] You’re amazing, Siegbert! Your mounted form is all but flawless, and you’re holding your own in combat incredibly well.
- Silas: Any criticisms I have are minor. You’re truly an accomplished rider.
- Siegbert: Then… I’m good enough for the knights?
- Silas: [injured] This again, huh?
- Siegbert: [sad] What must I do to improve?
- Silas: It’s not about improving, Sieg.
- Silas: [unsure] It’s the knights as a whole.
- Siegbert: [unsure] What do you mean?
- Silas: [frown] …You can’t speak of this to anyone, alright?
- Silas: [sweat, frown] Honestly, Xander would probably prefer not to burden you with it, but I don’t want you thinking it’s anything to do with your ability.
- Siegbert: [frown] Go on.
- Silas: You know things are fraught back in Nohr. There’s a lot of factional infighting, and the knights aren’t immune to that by any means.
- Silas: [injured] In particular… there are those who would stand to gain from Xander’s death.
- Silas: That’s part of the reason we hid you away in the Deeprealms in the first place. If people were to find out that any of King Garon’s children had issue, it…
- Silas: [sweat, injured] Well, it’d really set the cat among the pigeons.
- Siegbert: [sad] …So it would be too dangerous for me to join the knights, lest I be used as a pawn.
- Silas: [injured] That’s more or less the situation right now, yes.
- Silas: It’s impossible to predict how things will turn out. It’ll settle down in time, but…
- Siegbert: [sad] I understand.
- Silas: I’m sorry, Sieg.
- Silas: I wish I had better news for you.
- Siegbert: [smile] It’s okay, Father. Thank you for telling me.
- Silas: [smile] Of course, son.
- Silas: But you know, this is no excuse to ease off on the training.
- Siegbert: [smile] Right! I’ll get Mathilda tacked up!
- A-support
- Silas: [smile] …So that’s that.
- Siegbert: [smile, closed eyes] Incredible. I’ve got a lot to learn before I can begin to compare to you, Father.
- Silas: You’re selling yourself short again! You really have made incredible strides.
- Siegbert: Say, Father… can I ask you a question?
- Silas: [smile] Anything.
- Siegbert: If the Nohrian knights are truly so politically fraught, why did you join?
- Silas: [surprised] Me?
- Silas: Well… when I was very young, I was taken to the Northern Fortress to be a friend to your Aunt/Uncle Avatar.
- Silas: And after I left there, I wanted to see him/her again so much that I joined the knighthood.
- Silas: [smile, sweat] I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, of course. But it all worked out in the end.
- Siegbert: What was it like?
- Silas: [eyes closed] Nothing like I’d thought. I was naïve – I figured it would all be saving villagers from bandits, battling for the glory of Nohr, that kind of thing.
- Silas: [sad] But most of my missions were just protecting tax collectors or putting down rebellions.
- Siegbert: [injured] Father…
- Silas: I’m painting a pretty bleak picture of the Nohrian knights, aren’t I? That’s not fair.
- Silas: There’s plenty of truly good men and women there. I mean, there’s Xander.
- Silas: But the first thing you learn as a knight is that you always follow your orders. And if the orders are to do something terrible…
- Silas: [smile] That’s why it’s such a relief to be here under Avatar’s command. I mean, she/he gets us into some spectacular scrapes, but…
- Siegbert: Nohr’s lucky to have people like you three.
- Silas: [blush] I’d hardly count myself in the same company as Xander and Avatar.
- Siegbert: [smile] I would.
- Silas: Did I mention I’m proud to have such a doting son lately?
- Siegbert: I’m proud to have such an honourable father, too.
- Silas: Stop, you’ll make me blush!
- Siegbert: [smile, closed eyes] You’re already blushing, Father.
- Silas: …So I am.
