MANTELLO TO MAKE ANNOUNCEMENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE
Carmella Mantello officially said today she would skip next week’s Troy GOP selection committee interviews for Mayor and instead announce her intentions regarding the office of Troy Mayor during the month of May. Mantello said she would do this directly to the people through a press conference and social media.
Mantello said the Troy GOP Chair and head of the Selection Committee, who has recently supported anti-woman and anti-black comments about candidates for office, cannot effectively serve in that position any longer. The endorsement from the GOP chair’s selection committee, which is made up of no blacks and one woman, does not reflect the population or values of our city.
Mantello added, “A candidate who accepts the endorsement of the GOP’s Selection Committee will have a weight around their necks that will unquestionably sink their candidacy. All citizens of Troy need to be respected at all times, regardless of whether they are minority or white, and man or woman. A selection process tainted by discriminatory and negative comments will undermine the candidacy of each and every candidate who accepts their endorsement.”
