  1. You look around, looking for any sign of Sayori, but find nothing. You check your phone, hoping to find any sign of a text message, but all the phone shows is the time: 7:30 PM on a cold winter’s night. You grab your jacket, hugging it tight as a piercing wind blows through you.
  2. Your ears perk up as you hear a familiar voice calling out to you in the distance. “Anooooooon!”
  3. Sayori starts running faster when you see her, and you can’t help but smile as the girl frantically waves her hands at you.
  4. The girl reaches you, and her hands drop to her knees. She can’t help but pant as she tries to form a sentence. “I… I’m sorry… I… haaaah” Sayori coughs a bit, then takes a deep breath.
  5. “Sorry Anon, I completely forgot the movie was tonight. Did I make it?” Sayori looks up at you, a small twinkle in her eye that shines in the dark.
  6. “Well, considering the movie started at 7, I don’t think so.” You’re forced to look away as you say this, not wanting to see the only light in the night burnt out by your words.
  7. Sayori looks to the ground, her eyes drooping. You put your arm around her and give her shoulder a squeeze. “Well, that doesn’t mean that the date is over. I’ve got you for the night, and we’re gonna have fun somehow.”
  8. Sayori looks up at Anon, and the fire in her eyes reignites. “Awesome! Let’s go then, I found this really good smelling pastry place down the street, come on let’s go!” Sayori grabs your arm and starts running again. You sigh, but you can’t help giving her a smile. The girl always had a way of making you grin. You two stop at the familiar shop, and the aroma of freshly-baked bread fills your nose. You look over to Sayori, who has already left your side and is eyeing the glass pane guarding the morsels from the predator on the other side of the glass. Her eyes light up as she spots two identical doughnuts, each covered in a chocolate frosting.
  9. “Mister!” Sayori looks up at the man behind the counter with a fire in her eyes. “How much are these?!”
  10. The old gentleman chuckles and opens the glass. “That’ll be five each, ma’am.”
  11. Sayori digs around in her pockets for her wallet. She slowly turns around, her fingertips poking each other while she shoots you a guilty look.
  12. “Um, Anon… If you don’t mind, Ehehe…”
  13. You sigh once more. “Sayori… you know we didn’t pay for those tickets in advance, right?”
  14. Sayori pouts and looks away. “W-well I-“
  15. “And you know that we wouldn’t have been able to see the movie together if you had forgotten your money, right?”
  16. “Yeah b-but I-“
  17. “AND you knew I only had enough money for one ticket and a popcorn for myself, right?”
  18. “Ahhhhh pleaaaase please please please please!” Sayori hops on her toes, barely able to contain herself over the aroma of the treat behind her.
  19. “Alright, I kind of figured this was going to happen.” You grab your wallet out and hand the man a ten, grabbing a pastry for you and Sayori.
  20. “Anon thank you thank you thank you!” Sayori snatches the pastry from your hands and takes a big bite. Her gaze is lost in a vision of cream, the sugary bliss of the doughnut filling her mouth.
  21. “Ah, Boston Crème~” Sayori swoons as the filling dances across her mouth, barely giving enough room for the second bite she takes. “It’s sho good…”
  22. After Sayori is finished with her snack, you two head out from the store and walk down the street. The path is barely lit, save for a couple of streetlights. The wind is biting, causing the warmth of your doughnut to quickly vanish, much like the entirety of Sayori’s doughnut. You find yourself wandering into a park on the way home, completely empty.
  23. “Oh, this is the park where we used to play at! Come on, let’s go!” Sayori grabs your free hand with hers and drags you along, running to the dilapidated swing set in the outskirts of the playground.
  24. Sayori hops on the swing, and you decide to get behind her and push her. She kicks off, and you gently propel her forward.
  25. “Ehehe, this was so much fun when we were kids. Remember?”
  26. “Of course, I do.” You think back to the first time you and Sayori had came here together. “I remember having to push you because you were always too afraid to swing by yourself.”
  27. “Would you believe me if I told you I was never scared?” Sayori stops swinging and leans her head back into you.
  28. “Maybe not before, but now there’s no doubt in my mind. You just wanted to spend time with me, huh?” you wrap your arms around her, bending down a bit to reach around her body.
  29. “This is really nice…” Sayori sighs and grasps your forearm, her cool hand tingling through the sweatshirt you were wearing.
  30. The two of you spend some time like that, Sayori swinging on the swing set, and you pushing her.
  31. After a while, you decide to rest on a nearby bench, and finish your doughnut. Sayori follows and sits next to you, trying not to eye the pastry in your hand.
  32. You chuckle when you notice her gaze waver. “Here.” You hand it to her, but instead she takes a bite with it still in your hand.
  33. “Thanks Anon, you’re such a sweetheart.” Her eyes meet yours and you’re lost in their gentle blue glow, your heart warming up as you see the genuine, loving smile creep across her face. Sayori wraps her arms around your neck and pulls you into a gentle hug, her chin resting on your shoulder.
  34. “Thanks for everything today Anon, I love you.”
  35. “I love you too, Sayori. I’m so glad I met you.”
  36. Sayori moves away from you for just a second, then places a kiss on your lips, her arms wrapped around the back of your neck. The winter’s night seems to warm up for just a second as you return her embrace.
