- Super Mario 64 | 1 Star FAQ
- What is 1 Star?
- - I'm beating the game whilst only getting the DDD Sub star. This is done by doing a trick called LBLJ to get to the 1st Bowser Stage. Once completed, I can go to the basement, do SBLJ to get into DDD. Once I get the star, I proceed to Fire Sea, which gains me access to Upstairs. From here I do standard BLJs to get into Sky, where I beat the game.
- LBLJ? SBLJ? BLJs?
- - The "BLJ" stands for Backwards Long Jump. This is likely the most infamous trick in speedrunning history, so you have probably seen it before. Basically when Mario long jumps backwards, he gains a small amount of speed. You can do this on staircases or places with invisible ceilings above you to gain insane amounts of speed.
- The "BLJs" specifically refer to the 50 star door BLJ as well as up the endless staircase.
- "LBLJ" refers to Lobby Backwards Long Jump, which is done at the start of the run. This is the BLJ done to get access into Dark World.
- "SBLJ" is done as soon as I enter basement, and is used to get past the 30 star door.
- What is the hardest part of this run?
- - SBLJ, even though its significantly easier than the 0 Star variant to skip DDD.
- What do you play on?
- - I play on Emulator.
- What is your goal?
- - 7:4x
- What is WR?
- - The Emulator WR is 7:20 by Kanno
- - The N64 WR is 7:07 by Kanno.
- What are the grades? (A+/A/B/C)
- - These are actually more for the benefit of the viewer, to see how good the segments were in my PB, with A+ being the best, and C being the worst. Shows easily that losing time to an A+ segment isn't that bad, but losing time against a C segment is really bad. It also allows viewers to see where I'm expected to be able to save large amounts of time.
