- Today (13 March, 2021), the MARAT initiative launches public online venues and a presentation wiki for the crowd-sourced research effort ProjSwartz, named for the late US information activist Aaron Swartz, and focused on identifying and publicly cataloging law enforcement agents and law enforcement collaborators who illicitly target activists, journalists, and whistleblowers, along with the overlapping networks of far-right agitators who do so via online venues.
- Much of the initial content to be presented is culled from the past decade of research and documentation, including leaked FBI and intelligence contractor correspondence as well as open source intel.
- Eventually, though, we hope to serve as an active and ongoing repository of new documentation provided by activists who might otherwise not be in a position to provide this information to others in a safe and actionable manner.
- Altogether, this evolving, curated public database will serve to provide activists with the means of assessing the individuals and institutions that have targeted engaged citizens with virtual impunity for much of modern history; the end result will be to strengthen and protect the activism that has become more crucial than ever as our era proceeds.
- "How can I help?"
- Most volunteers track and monitor activists, journalists, and/or whistleblowers, looking for signs of harassment and intimidation by law enforcement, federal authorities, and/or collaborators, reporting their findings to other ProjSwartz volunteers, and lending assistance and resources wherever possible.
