  1. 12
  2.
  3. >You glance over the boulder, catching a sight of a large camp.
  4. >You turn around and motion the ponies behind to come.
  5. >Shining comes first, poking his head out to see the sights.
  6. >The four others follow, and take cover behind the boulder.
  7. >Damn, this is a pretty big boulder.
  8. >Yeah, no shit, Sherlock.
  9. >It’s called a boulder for a reason, Anon.
  10. >Fuck off, will you.
  11. >”Right, here’s the plan.” You poke out and count the minotaurs.
  12. >”There’s about-“
  13.
  14. >Reese sat down with his dinner.
  15. >As usual, a bowl of watered grass.
  16. >He snorted in disgust, but hey, this is food.
  17. >Other mercs took it quite well.
  18. >His friend, Manny, comes up and sits next to him.
  19. >”SSDD, eh, Reese?”
  20. >”Yup.”
  21. >”So, what do you think of-“
  22.
  23. >”TWENTY?!”
  24.
  25. >A shout rings out from behind him.
  26. >The two, and probably all of the camp turn to the source of the sound.
  27. >He can’t see anything, just a large, conveniently placed boulder.
  28. >Must be the wind.
  29. >He shrugs, and sits back to his meal.
  30. >”The wind is weird today.” Mutters another Manny.
  31.
  32. >You gasp and quickly hide.
  33. >The rest of the squad shoots you a deadpan stare.
  34. >You smile and shrug.
  35. >”Come on, we’re not getting our heads chopped off. Anywho, I got a plan.”
  36. >You take a breather.
  37. >No you don’t.
  38. >”You guys stay put. I’ll try to handle it.”
  39. >You shift your gaze to Shining.
  40. >”Let me handle this *this* time, Shining.”
  41. >He nods.
  42. >You take off most of your armor, just to remove the hostility.
  43. >Just your braces and boots.
  44. >You put on a simple hood over, and your gift-jacket.
  45. >For good luck.
  46. >You head out slowly, making your way to the camp.
  47. >The minotaurs have noticed you and start brandishing their weapons.
  48. >Remember Anon, love and tolerance.
  49. >God, that is hard.
  50.
  51. >Surprisingly, your path is undisturbed, as the minotaurs form into ranks.
  52. >They slowly form a line for you to follow.
  53. >Soon you face a large, hexagonal tent.
  54. >An orange glow inside tells you someone is inside.
  55. >Then, a large shadow moves inside and moved to the slit that was the entrance.
  56. >A rather small minotaur pops his head out, and motions you in.
  57. >You follow.
  58. >The tent was quite cozy, some books here and there.
  59. >There were few candles lighting the tent, perched on a small table.
  60. >Flanking the two side of it, were chairs.
  61. >The minotaur offers you one of the seats.
  62. >You smile and take it.
  63. >”I bet you are wondering why we are here.” The minotaur speaks.
  64. >You don’t like the sound of that.
  65. >You swallow your spit, and prepare to listen.
  66.
  67. >Shining looks out once again, checking on the tent.
  68. >”Relax, Shining, Anon’s is going to be fine. He’s the captain, after all.”
  69. >Shining flinches at the word.
  70. >Captain.
  71. >He was still sore about Anonymous becoming the captain.
  72. >Anonymous told him to live up to his name.
  73. >And he will just do that.
  74. >Shining looked out again, eyeing the minotaurs.
  75. >Last time, he could take out three.
  76. >with his position, he could just-
  77. >”Stallions, new plan.” He announced.
  78.
  79. >”And Reese over there, his mother is sick. You see-“ The minotaur got up.
  80. >”We are forced to do such. We are too poor.”
  81. >You stand as well.
  82. >”I sympathize. I’m sure the princess could have provided all you better help- you could have done this in the first place.”
  83. >You hold out a hand.
  84. >He grabs it, and gives a strong shake.
  85. >”Thank you, I’ll make sure-“
  86. >A certain whisper runs through the air, and then strikes a group of huddled minotaurs.
  87. >Then a large, blue explosion sends the beasts sprawled everywhere.
  88. >You turn to the minotaur, who stares back with pure shock.
  89. >He grips on your hand hard.
  90. >”What is this, what are you playing at?”
  91. >Shit.
  92. >You look up to the boulder, spotting Shining.
  93. >Motherfucker.
  94. >He stands proud, while he orders the guards to open fire.
  95. >Your men.
  96. >Before you can shout an order, a fist lands on your face.
  97. >You fly to the ground.
  98. >”What sort of trickery is this, Captain?”
  99. >Fuck.
  100. >Say something.
  101. >You clutch onto your cheek and get to your feet.
  102. >”Wait, this is just a-“
  103. >”We got your back, Anon!” two guards come up to your back.
  104. >”Shit, what the hell’s going on, Smiles?”
  105. >”Shining ordered an attack.” The guard promptly fires a blast to the minotaur in front of you, knocking him out.
  106. >”No! I was just about to-“
  107. >And then, all hell breaks loose.
  108. >In your bowels, that is.
  109. >A hulking, massive minotaur breaks through the trees, weapons drawn, comes charging at you.
  110. >You instantly push Smiles away, before you too, are pushed to the side by the creature’s massive forearms.
  111. >Before you can do anything, the other guard is sliced to pieces.
  112. >You gasp, and so do the guard, before he falls in chunks of flesh.
  113. >The minotaur turns to you.
  114. >”Oh you have got to be kidding me.” You mutter, as you avoid the blows.
  115. >You fire off a few bolts, but that’s just pissing him off.
  116. >Fuck, he’s tall.
  117. >”Smiles, move!” You push the unicorn again, as he back-pedals and fires off his own magic.
  118. >You do your own little dance, as you scurry away from the blades.
  119. >Wait, what the fuck are you doing?
  120. >You got the fucking magic.
  121. >You jump to Smiles, grab him, and teleport away.
  122. >The rest sees you, and follow.
  123.
  124. >”What the fuck was that, Shining?!” You slam the stallion to the wall.
  125. >”A guardsman is dead because of you, and we blew our chances!”
  126. >You slam again.
  127. >”WHAT THE FUCK?!”
  128. >He just looks to you in fear, probably more out of the fact that a comrade died.
  129. >”When I told you to live up to your name-“ You point at the mess you just left behind. “I didn’t mean THIS!”
  130. >You drop the stallion.
  131. >You throw the jacket to the ground, and back up.
  132. >”Fuck it, it’s over. Pack up colts, we’re going back.”
  133.
  134. >You decide the night is too dangerous to make the trip, so you decide to sleep the problem over.
  135. >However, you make sure to move your own camp someplace safe.
  136. >No fire tonight, too dangerous.
  137. >You sink into your breastplate, holding Twilight’s gift close.
  138. >At least this will ease your conscience a little.
  139. >You think about the guardsman’s family- oh god, what if he had fillies back home?
  140. >And of course, you have to break the news.
  141. >Sleep overtakes you as you sink deeper into your worries.
  142. >You were never ready for this.
  143. >You never asked for this.
  144.
  145. >When you come to, you can see the weak sunlight in the forest’s mist.
  146. >From the sound, you can hear the light drizzle at the moment.
  147. >”Captain!” Soarin rushes in.
  148. >You rub your eyes and get up.
  149. >”Ready to move out?”
  150. >Soarin shakes his head wildly.
  151. >”No, not that-“
  152. >You see the look on his face.
  153. >It tells it all.
  154. >”Shining?” You ask, eyes widening.
  155. >Soarin nods silently.
  156.
  157. >Shining shot another bolt, and then another.
  158. >”Come on, give me your best shot.” The minotaur chuckles.
  159. >The rain flows into his helmet, wetting his usually puffed mane.
  160. >Shining sighed for air once more.
  161. >He knew it.
  162. >The minotaur knew it.
  163. >Shining was getting tired.
  164. >”Come on!”
  165. >He fires another shot.
  166. >It burns into the gigantic body of the minotaur, but he keeps on coming.
  167. >A blade on each hand, he slowly comes up to Shining.
  168. >Shining sees his reflection on the blade, and gulps.
  169. >He brings up a shield, in a desperate attempt to live.
  170. >His legs won’t budge, he’s too tired.
  171. >At least he took down few others with him.
  172. >The giant raises his weapon, and brings it through the shield with ease.
  173. >Shining can see the smile on his face now.
  174.
  175. >As the blade comes down, it twitches, and makes contact.
  176. >Strange, this isn’t flesh, thought the minotaur.
  177. >You hold your arm-guards up, holding the two blades on your forearm.
  178. >Two trails of blood run down your left arm.
  179.
  180. >He managed to get through.
  181.
  182. >You groan in pain, before jerking your arm upwards.
  183. >Then you ready your magic and-
  184. >Reese blinks in surprise, and look to the offender.
  185. >You stood there, just firing a bolt.
  186. >You grin to the minotaur.
  187. >Your left arm has gone limp.
  188. >”Come on, Reese, pick on someone your size.”
  189. >The minotaur gladly obliges, facing you with his other weapon.
  190. >You bring up your own sword, and hold it steady.
  191. >You got this.
  192.
  193. >You are so fucked.
  194.
  195. >He comes in a downward swing, and you counter it with an upwards one.
  196. >Your magic infused sword shrieks through the air, before screaming in pain.
  197. >Blasts of energy rip through the air each blow.
  198. >As you go, you are getting more and more on the offensive side.
  199. >You let him no space, and continue attacking.
  200. >You can feel his strength wavering.
  201. >With one, final blow, the two of you separate, each dragging along the muddy arena.
  202. >You instantly get on your feet.
  203. >’Reese’ is slowly getting up.
  204. >Good, he’s weak.
  205. >”Come on, Reese-“ You shoot him a smile. “Do it for mom.”
  206. >That was a bad move.
  207. >The minotaur roars, before charging at you.
  208. >Shit.
  209. >Unwavering and head-strong as always, you also roar and charge.
  210. >You find some elevation and you jump.
  211. >As your arms slowly curve backwards for that final blow, you notice the minotaur raising his blade.
  212. >For his mother, Anon.
  213.
  214. >For his mother.
  215.
  216. >The steel clash once more, with the largest blast.
  217. >Trees shake, and the rain stops for a second.
  218. >You look down on the defeated minotaur, his sword cut in half.
  219. >He slowly opens his eyes, and stares at you in surprise.
  220. >He blinks.
  221. >You give lend him a hand.
  222. >He blinks again, before taking it.
  223. >”For mother.” You whisper.
  224. >He smiles to you, before getting up.
  225.
  226. >Shining stood from his position, fazed.
  227. >There he saw Anon, clutching the beast’s hand.
  228. >Anon bested you again, Shining.
  229. >Rage boiled within him.
  230. >His older brother, his old friend, always over shadowed him.
  231. >Over the studies, over the leadership, over Cadance…
  232. >No, this time, Shining was going to show his full potential to Anonymous.
  233. >He will finish that minotaur and engrave his name to Anon’s mind.
  234.
  235. >Anon.
  236.
  237. >The scabby lad that once loved oranges, how he had changed.
  238. >I also have changed, Shining thought.
  239. >So with his last ounce of energy, he charged up a powerful bolt.
  240. >Enough to blow the two away.
  241. >He fires.
  242.
  243. >You smile, and then turn to Shining.
  244. >He must be-
  245. >OH SHIT WHAT THE FUCK
  246. >You instinctively swing your sword up, deflecting the bolt.
  247. >It shoots up to the cliffs above you.
  248. >”SHINING WHAT THE FUCK, HE’S COOL!” You shout.
  249. >Then you hear it.
  250. >”Fuck me.” You mutter, as several hundred boulders come crashing down.
  251.
  252. >Shining looked up.
  253. >There were hundreds of boulders.
  254. >His face went pale.
  255. >After his accident, Shining refused to near any boulder.
  256. >He was visibly sweating last night.
  257. >As the boulders came crashing onto him, he froze.
  258. >It was happening again.
  259. >No, he cannot lose more.
  260. >He clenches his eyes shut, and waits for the crunch.
  261. >…
  262. >Nothing’s there.
  263.
  264. >You groan again, holding two of your arms up.
  265. >You *were*, after all, the best telekinetic student.
  266. >You hold the boulders with your magic, surrounding each with your own aura.
  267. >”Shining!” You shout. “I got this!”
  268. >Then you feel it.
  269. >The wound on your arm; looks like it was deeper than you thought.
  270. >”Goddamit!” You go slightly limp and fall on your knees.
  271. >Your left arm is shaking uncontrollably.
  272. >You can feel the cut bones crushing under the weight.
  273. >Shining stares quietly, before realizing and coming to your side.
  274. >”Anonymous! I’m so sorry!” He tries to help, but he shouts and falls to the ground.
  275. >Figures, he’s drained.
  276. >You glance over to the minotaur, as he tries to hold a boulder up.
  277. >”No!” You shout. “Go, your family needs you, Reese.”
  278. >Reese stares at you silently, reading your sad smile.
  279. >He nods, before going away.
  280. >You look down on your fellow guardsman.
  281. >You smile.
  282.
  283. >You know what to do.
  284.
  285. >”You ready, Mister Sparkle?”
  286. >You speak, voice already shaking too.
  287. >His eyes go wide and he looks to you.
  288.
  289. >”Don’t call me that, Annie.”
  290. >He smiles weakly.
  291. >Your right arm is starting to shake as well.
  292. >”Well, fuck you too.” You reply.
  293. >Shiny pauses.
  294.
  295. >”Are we best friends?” He asks.
  296.
  297. >You grit your teeth, and close your eyes.
  298.
  299. >”The best.”
  300.
  301. >”Shining.” You call to him, as you reach into your shirt.
  302. >You pull out your necklace, and pass it over to your brother.
  303.
  304. >”Now, remember the plan- do your ‘Shining Armor’ thing.”
  305. >He staggers a little.
  306. >”I’m not sure, Anon, what if-“
  307. >He eyes the necklace sadly.
  308. >”Fuck the ‘if’s and fuck her too.”
  309. >You smile again.
  310.
  311. >”Cadance.” You whisper.
  312.
  313. >”Remember, I’m the best fucking wingman you can get.”
  314. >You wink.
  315. >Shiny is silent.
  316. >You take a breath.
  317.
  318. >Time to get this done.
  319.
  320. >You fix your tie, your hair, and your sleeves.
  321. >Looking like a true gentleman, you take a deep breath and…
  322.
  323. >You push Shining away with your last energy.
  324.
  325. >As he skids away, you stand, looking smug with your smile.
  326. >Rocks collide all around you, making splashes.
  327. >Small ones land first.
  328. >The rocks give way to the sunlight, shining to you.
  329. >You take a breath, and see it again.
  330.
  331. >Kick the fucking door open.
  332. >Armor shuffles nervously behind you.
  333. >”WHAT’S UP, PARTY PEOPLE?” You shout to the surprised party guests.
  334. >Perhaps, doing the ‘Good cop, Bad cop’ pick up trick won’t work in a posh Canterlot dinner party.
  335. >Only a certain white princess laughs on the far end.
  336. >You turn to your sorry friend, giving him a nod.
  337. >-
  338. >She pouts at you, before you slowly back away.
  339. >As you leave, Armor is pelted with her words.
  340. >Celestia save that little fucker.
  341. >You start moving about aimlessly, before you’re pulled aside by a certain pony.
  342. >”Anon!” She calls to you, before giving you a warm hug.
  343. >You return the hug, feeling her wings.
  344. >You lean closer and whisper-
  345. >”You want to get out of here?” You ask.
  346.
  347. >You smile widely again, before the stone touch your shoulders.
  348. >The larger one slowly descends on your head, and forces you down.
  349. >You take a deeper breath, as the winds get stronger.
  350. >Cadance.
  351. >Treat her right, okay, Shining?
  352. >Humans don’t belong anywhere anyway.
  353.
  354. >Shining gets to his feet, dazed.
  355. >He was being helped up by the rest of the squad.
  356. >Soarin comes up, and punches the stallion on the cheek.
  357. >”Where’s Anon?!” He shouts, but the questions fall deaf.
  358. >Shining silently gaze over the stones, and then to the sky.
  359. >He then looks at the half-locket around his neck.
  360.
  361. >The rain does little to hide his own.
