- Iboga considerations
- Take an allergy test (~50mg of powder should be good) before ingesting or administering iboga. Allergies are very rare, but can occur.
- ALWAYS coadminister with magnesium, as this will mitigate cardiotoxicity.
- Check medication interactions. Ibogaine and other alkaloids bind to a very wide variety of receptors. People on such medications as follows should quit before taking iboga, for as long as it takes for the substance to completely leave your system; SSRI's/MAOI's or other antidepressants, anticholinergics/antihistamines, drugs that affect QT intervals, medications that decrease breakdown of other medications by the liver (Cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) inhibitors). Iboga should not be mixed with stimulants of any kind, dissociatives like dxm and pcp, MDMA, or NBOMe/DOx type drugs. Do not drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks while on iboga.
- Make sure to do your own research and check drug interactions each medication yourself.
- People with epilepsy should not take iboga.
- People who have psychotic or manic mental illnesses, DP/DR, or a family history of such illness, should exercise extreme caution and stick to dosages of around 500mg of rootbark, paired with close observation, before proceeding to a higher dose. Some people with bipolar have had success with iboga, while others have induced manic episodes when taking it.
- Iboga can cause insomnia, keep in mind it lasts up to 3 days before fully wearing off.
- People with heart issues should consult a doctor before using iboga.
- Iboga is illegal in many places, so order at your own risk.
- FLOOD DOSE:
- If you are doing a flood dose, have someone monitor you, and make sure you have atropine or a similar anticholinergic to reset your heart rhythms in case of a problem
- Flood doses are normally 30+ grams, in order to have a real experience, you only need 3 grams, although this can vary depending on sensitivity or body weight.
- It is especially important to keep a healthy balance of electrolytes when taking a flood dose. Deaths are fairly rare, but electrolyte deficiency has been strongly correlated with potentially life-threatening cardiac issues. In particular, many recommend to take magnesium for a week or two before taking a flood dose.
- There's a 1 in 300 chance of potentially fatal cardiac event when taking large doses of iboga. Anyone with a heart condition should NOT take a flood dose. This number is greatly composed of people who have pre-existing conditions, who used other drugs alongside iboga, or those who had low electrolytes.
- It's ideal to fast for 24 hours prior to ingestion.
- It's ideal to have 3 days of consistently successful bowel movements before taking a flood dose.
- Make sure you take your body weight into consideration when deciding on a flood dose. Not everyone will require the same dosage.
- Benzos can be used, but they can affect QT intervals, so it's best to avoid them if possible. Kratom can also affect QT intervals, so if you absolutely must take kratom, don't do it on a flood dose.
