- sibling = brother or sister
- spouse = wife or husband
- nuclear family = parents and their children living together in one household
- blended family = family that includes children from more than one relationship (children have step brothers and step sisters)
- extended family = including grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc
- (the opposite is immediate family, which includes your parents and your siblings)
- reunion = a get-together with people who haven’t visited in a long time (e.g. family reunion)
- matriarch / patriarch = woman or man who is like the “boss” of an extended family
- stepsister = your stepmother or stepfather’s daughter
- stepmother / stepfather = a person your parent marries who is now your mother or father
- ancestor = parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, great-great-grandparent, etc.
- (descendant = child, grandchild, great-grandchild, great-great-grandchild, etc.)
- half-brother = a brother who only shares one parent with you (full siblings share both parents)
- in-laws = the family of your spouse (especially the parents)
- niece = the daughter of my sibling
