Arcturus

"You wanna hear my story?"
"Yeah man lets hear it!"
"The whole thing?"
"Of course dude."
"Alright but this will take some time."
The year is 2567. We've been monitoring the activities of the undefined planet-like entity Arcturus for several years now. The strange field of tangible electricity, or perhaps plasma, surrounding Arcturus has defied any attempt at setting foot on the surface of the planet or even seeing the surface of the planet, if there is one. We are now preparing ourselves for our team of 12 to travel to Arcturus in hopes of being able to identify or even penetrate the field around it. We've been working tirelessly for 6 years both developing the ship necessary for the voyage but also studying Arcturus' activity. It has a pattern of weakness in the field surrounding it that has a small window where it is theoretically possible to pass through it. All of our hopes high we start out to make our launch for Arcturus.

Upon reaching the planet we found that the field around the planet was neither electricity nor plasma. It was something none of us had ever encountered. Even the machines we brought along to analyze the field had any luck identifying any part of it. Still the readings on the output of the field were becoming nominal as predicted by the pattern we'd observed so we decided to take the plunge and attempt to enter the field. My best friend and love of my life, Rupunzel, spearheaded the design of the ship to be able to withstand anything the field may conceivably do; or so we thought. As soon as we got close to the field it was as if the shit had been grabbed by some godly hand and pulled inward.
The moment the ship touched the field all electrical equipment began malfunctioning. The communication was coming in and out as the ship was violently battered around. I blacked out somewhere in this time only to awaken, alone, in an escape pod making it's automatic return to earth. I wept slowly during the entire return to earth. Some time after arriving her I was arrested for the supposed murders of my fellow crewman as the ship vanished from the universe without a trace besides me. The last recording was only that of bloodcurdling screams of the crew.
