  1. The second highlight match was between two mainstays of the UU tier: dodmen and Christo. At the time, dodmen was undefeated, and Christo had just snapped Pearl’s winning streak the week before. Both players brought aggressive offense teams that generated pressure on the opponent from turn 1. From team preview, dodmen’s Talonflame posed a significant threat to Christo’s team if it managed to grab a boost, while Christo’s Venomoth did the same to dodmen. Dodmen created an advantage for himself early by removing Christo’s Gliscor’s Toxic Orb with Azelf’s Knock Off, but Christo played around a potential Taunt effectively and managed to both set up Stealth Rock with Gliscor and U-turn into his Venomoth as dodmen switched in Blastoise to attempt to remove Stealth Rock. Dodmen managed to prevent Venomoth from setting up by letting Azelf take the Sleep Powder and forcing Venomoth out with Lucario. The next series of plays saw each player picking up two KOs as Christo sacrificed his Gliscor to force Lucario out with Latias, dodmen let his Azelf die to Draco Meteor and caught Froslass on the switch with a Dark Pulse from Mega Blastoise, and Christo revenged the Mega Blastoise with his Venomoth, nullifying dodmen’s ability to remove hazards in support of his Talonflame. Dodmen elected to revenge kill the Venomoth with Talonflame, allowing Christo to bring in his Mega Sharpedo and try to accrue speed boosts. On turn 11, dodmen made a crucial mistake by not activating Supersonic Skystrike as Christo’s Sharpedo used Protect. Had he done so, he would have weakened Sharpedo to the point where he could successfully revenge kill it with Lucario’s Vacuum Wave and the endgame would have been very tense. If Sharpedo had switched out, dodmen could have guaranteed himself a KO and ensured that Sharpedo was within range of Vacuum Wave. As it was, Christo’s Mega Sharpedo survived a Vacuum Wave to claim its second kill and dodmen was forced to remove it with his Krookodile, which gave either Latias or Cobalion a free turn, depending on what move dodmen chose. Cobalion took advantage of Krookodile’s Knock Off to weaken dodmen’s Latias, then survived a Life Orb Psychic to set up Rock Polish and clean up dodmen’s last two Pokemon.
