1. Regarding Managers/Assman
2.
3. Hi
4. As I said in my retention vote post, I would like to discuss the rules of PPL concerning managers and assmans.
5. As of right now, the rules are the following :
6.
Managers will be given 100k initially with which to draft. They can use 10k (or, from PPL 3 onwards, their retention price, if that is higher) to purchase themselves as players beforehand if they choose to (if they do not do this, they are only managing the team and not playing alongside)
7. I will start with this : I don’t think managers should be allowed to play.
8. It made sense to have this system in PPL 1 because the tournament was kind of a Beta Version, and also because the playerbase was so small. The most actives members were the ones that were likely to manage so not allowing them to play would’ve been a mistake. Amongst managers you had GGFan, Troller, Mister Tim, Enigami… actives dudes who probably would not have managed had it implied not playing (Enigami being debatable maybe but w/e). So granted, it was the good decision for PPL 1.
9. The same thing kinda applied for PPL 2, I think it was more or less fine to allow managers to play because this edition was built on the PPL 1 foundations (duh) and had as a goal to promote the tour and to put PPL in the spotlight for its third edition. Managers signed up willing to play again, ok, let’s not think about this too much, it happened, wasn’t necessarily a bad move.
10. But now the community has grown, and we do have a big enough community to separate managers from players, and I think it’s something that is desirable.
11. If you don’t force people making the choice between managing and playing, you take the risk of ending up with mediocre managers who are basically just players who would like to try and make a draft and if it fails well who cares they’re playing anyway. If you decide to be a manager knowing you can’t play, you normally shouldn’t been half-assing your management, and tbh that’s the feeling i got from certain managers last year bc they were just players who wanted to draft on a smaller site coz fun. Make a choice, don’t half ass. The finalists last year were callous and troller, and I bet they individually had more messages in their discord than all of their players combined. That’s the type of manager we want. The more I think about it, the more I think it’s about stopping players from managing, not actually stopping managers from playing, but the result is the same.
12. As a player, I don’t want to end up in the team of a manager who paid 10k for himself (which is a high price) despite not being worth those 10k, I would feel like my team has a disadvantage because a mediocre player costed 10k, and the worst part is there’s nothing I can do about it. This is something that should be avoided. Players shouldn’t have to cross their fingers during the draft « I hope I don’t end up with him because he paid 10k for himself and isn’t good » and with the current system you can’t just rely on expecting managers to be fair and honest about themselves and their value.
13. The system is abusable the other way around as well, says bkc or mcm or whoever decides to sign up as a manager and pays 10k for himself, or literally any great player comes to PP for PPL and does that, it’s completely unfair if they would go for a higher price in the auction.
14.
Assistant Managers:
15. If you want an assistant manager in PPL 2, either you can select one before the auction (in which case they cannot play) or you can select one after the auction (in which they can play if they were purchased at the auction).
16.
17. From PPL 3 onwards, an assistant manager can be selected before the auction and permitted to play, at a price of either 10k or for however much they were bought at the previous auction plus 3k, whichever is higher.
18.
19. Now this is also something i want to discuss. I don’t see the need of an assman before auctions like at all, and please that assman should absolutely not be able to be bought pre auction for 10k (abusable too for the same reasons as in my previous paragraph). Those team tours are a lot about drafting, and you’re limiting it (if you had retains on top of that it means you can have like half of your rooster completed pre-auction that’s insane)
20.
21. You don’t need an assman to help you assemble a 10 man team in a pretty small pool, if you do it means you shouldn’t be managing in the first place. Now what I would suggest is, pick the assman after the auction and it has to be one of the players you drafted. That way, you avoid the abuses and you still get that insurance for subbing, scenarios like that etc when the manager isn’t here.
22.
23. I would like to here thoughts on this and maybe a vote, ty for reading
