  1. thinking about admiral archer finally being able to rescue shinji! though the opportunity presented itself while shinji was still full and heavy, archer was determined. he carried him the entire way, trying to be confident and reassuring. shinji tried his best to hold in his gasps and moans as eggs shifted inside him. once in their new (stolen) ship, they’re free to somewhat relax. not being held in restraints is a strange feeling shinji has to get re-accustomed to. how heavy and off balance he feels often overwhelms him when he tries to get his partially atrophied muscles to cooperate with him. of course, archer is always there to help him, but shinji was fairly decent at taking care of himself once.
  2.
  3. shinji lays the clutch a few weeks later, having carried eight more eggs than he had the last time. he’s free to shout and cry as much as it feels necessary and archer is there to help him and encourage him to do whatever it is he needs. he provides a soothing presence that makes this time so much different from their first. archer quietly disposes of the eggs, as per shinji’s wishes and immediately focuses on helping him recover. it takes shinji a little over five days before he can get out of bed.
  4.
  5. once shinji makes a (relatively) full recovery, he starts to develop an appetite. for months he had only been fed a nutrient cocktail, something that helped provide the bare minimum amount of sustenance to keep the eggs in him alive and healthy. aside from the post-clutch puffiness on his tummy and on his chest, shinji is very thin. archer feels like shinji regaining his appetite is a great step in the right direction, so he gladly cooks for him when he asks.
  6.
  7. quickly, shinji begins asking for food several times a day, often looking light-headed or in pain when he complains of hunger. archer doesn’t quite understand how an alien metabolism functions, but he assumes that if shinji was made to carry clutch after clutch of eggs for so long that his body is used to requiring excess nutrients to make up for the ones absorbed by them. seeing how uncomfortable shinji is when he feels hungry makes him think that his body still feels like it’s starving, no matter how much he eats.
  8.
  9. and that’s true, so shinji keeps eating. there are times when he looks nauseous and full of regret and is very obviously trying to slow down, but eventually his stomach is growling again and he looks close to tears of frustration. it’s obvious his hunger is genuine, so archer continues to cook for him and prepare him food, hoping that his body will sort itself out soon. he’s tried serving shinji smaller portions and lighter foods, but it only seemed to make things worse. things warm and heavy seemed to suit his needs best, usually allowing him to fall asleep in comfort until his hunger comes gnawing back.
  10.
  11. eventually it begins to catch up with him. archer starts to notice when shinji starts to look more healthy. he feels like it’s a positive development, but his appetite doesn’t show any signs of slowing. shinji is constantly hungry and upset or frustrated about it. understandably so, archer thinks. he can’t imagine the stress his body has been under in the last several months. he supposes he can’t be surprised, however, when all of the food shinji has been eating finally starts to really stick to him. his cheeks round out and his mid-section becomes noticeably squishy. his wide hips have eagerly picked up some softness as well, complemented by his thighs. shinji seems too distressed by his constant state of hangry to have noticed any changes in himself right away, but once he does it’s a shock.
  12.
  13. as a general rule, makiri were pretty much all lithe and delicate, known for their waify appeal. aside from when he was actively carrying eggs against his will, he’s never felt so awkward about his body. he isn’t used to being soft or squishy and touching himself while trying to put one and two together is absolutely stressing him out. archer tries to comfort him, but also takes the time to explain calorie intake vs energy output.
  14.
  15. it isn’t as if shinji subscribed to the concept that being pudgy is bad, but it is a seemingly alarming development to his person after a series of already drastic changes. he fusses with his clothes and his body and sounds so impossibly irritated and worried when he’s overwhelmed by hunger pangs. archer is happy to help with advice, but also he doesn’t want shinji worried about something that is ultimately less of a priority than his overall health.
  16.
  17. also, he looks very cute with a substantial amount of meat on him??? archer soothingly pets shinji’s hair back and offers him small bites of food while his stomach angrily protests its lack of calories. shinji hates feeling out of control in his own body, like he hasn’t had a decent grip on himself in months and months, but while he’s momentarily warm and sated he snuggles against archer a lot and soaks up the comfort. =w=
